Thanks a lot shashi, first of all for helping me so much with my car. Secondly updating this thread on behalf of me, every time i am busy with my studies. Really glad to have a freind like you. [clap]
Now coming to the car, car is really smooth now. Engine note has improved to a large extent. Hats off to our SA for doing such a job and his attention to detail.
No noise or rattle now, car is really trouble free now.
[:D]
Our next job is to get a nice 4 speed GB, to remove that little whine from it. We got the cross members because it was not available easily, and i may need it in future, so got it.

The MASS were nice and did the job well on your car.The different photoshoots by you both are cool and awesome. If there was a SS80 and a Type 3 800,it woul have complete the 800 generations(just my suggestion).ON a of the photos ,showing a DIY,was it you or swiftshashi?and what more to say..-hats off the both.
Oh,my Omni's 21st birthday is on 30th December. Please suggest birthday decorations for the same.
Anyways,Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all the petrolheads.

That was me applying the sealant. Actually we both applied the sealant together and spoiled our hands for a week. [lol]
Anyone willing to apply sealant yourself, do wear clinical gloves (available in any medical shop). Metal sealant sticks to your hand and doesn't go away easily. The easiest way to remove it from your hand is to leave it as it is, it will eventually go off with the skin.

Shrijit303 http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...ack-stallion-my-maruti-suzuki-ritz-zxi-4.html. See, how i celebrated my ritz's 5th birthday. [clap]
BTW my 800 will turn 24 on 8th February.[:)]

True!! Though finding a nicely maintained SS80 is a task in its own.

Its Sumit who is visible in some of these pics. I was the photographer, hence somehow forgot to click myself. Though we both did the DIY. Sumit did the sealant application of the rear portions while I was responsible of the areas at the front of the car.

Oh,my Omni's 21st birthday is on 30th December. Please suggest birthday decorations for the same.
Happy B'day to your Omni in advance. Firstly, clean it thoroughly and wax it. Nothing like a well maintained car.
Then you may consider decorating it with ribbons and balloons. Its dependant on the personal tastes, so won't comment much on that. I personally celebrate it with cakes and all.

BTW, my 800 (golden one, 5 speed) will turn 16 this march. Sweet 16 [lol]

Anyways,Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all the petrolheads.

Same to you, buddy!!

Cheers

Hello Sumithsinha,
Once parted and you are lucky to have her back.
Your '92 looks great. It's worth spending on restoration, it can take you places and is very reliable if you maintain it well.
I got the radiator and engine work done in mine. Needs paintjob though. But for now, it's good enough. It is my daily drive, around the city or long drives.

@swiftsashi,
5 speed- wolf in sheep's clothing!

Hii Sumit
Your restoration & current updates are amazing.

I just did a kind of partial restoration ( Most of them were DIY)... pictures will speak itself (i did not take the pictures when i bought, though it was in good shape, it did not have the originality ) brought it back as close as possible to stock condition.

Though many said its waste of money, i will surely keep this one for a long term.. enjoying my drive ...

will also post recent pictures soon..

Model - March 97.

Hi Astralbliss, your car looks pristine. The way you have kept it is really remarkable.
Two suggestions from my side:-
1) Please apply body sealant on the apron (Near the strut top mount (Both sides in your engine bay pic). Anywhere you see an open cavity, close it with sealant.
2) Please change the rear combination light. Those auto gold ones are not original and may fade with time. T1s came with Alpha Toyo ones, which are available with MGP store.
Your car is in really great condition, these oldies just needs some TLC and they are as good as any new car on the road.
Do shed some light on the mechanicals too. [:)]
Wish you many happy miles with your 800.

@ananth
Neat 800 sir. Mysore people are lucky when it comes to maintaining old cars. No rusting issues like coastal side.

@Sumithsinha,
I'll definitely get it checked and I'm getting the front cross member replaced. It has rusted beyond recognition.
The left tail lamp is Lumax and I think it is a good make. Hasn't faded. I had put AutoGold on the right long back, yeah, it definitely sucks. Forget fading, it has cracked. It is getting replaced.
There is little rust in the right tail lamp housing as well.
Actually, I'm getting things done one by one now.
If I compare it to how it was when I brought it in Dec 2011, it has gone through massive upgrades leaving aside the paint and body work.

Ananth Sir,it looks that it is just out of the showroom...just like Sumit sir and Swiftshashi Sir's car.[:D]I guess this is one of the later models, just before the launch of the 2nd Gen 800.[;)]Its total perfect.
@Swiftshashi-You are right, the later type 1 800s did not have a bonnet openner, thats the difference.

Dear Experts,
(Please refer to my posting under Ananth_pn)
Kindly let me know -
1. Is my car Type 1 or Type 2
2. The temperature meter does not cross "C", is that the right temp. while running or the meter is faulty.. The moment it crosses "C" the fan starts & it comes back to "C".
3. I like the previous version of front Grill (lines type with Logo) & not the honey comb, can it be fitted without any modification.

Kindly help

Regards

1. Your car is a 2nd generation Maruti 800.
SS80s were phased out and SB308s were introduced. And you have a Type1 SB308.

2. I had got the entire radiator system replaced.
Before, the gauge always read at half mark and fan would turn on once it crossed the half mark.

Now, with the new parts & on coolant, the gauge always stays little below half mark. Only in peak hours it goes to half mark. Fan starts running and it comes back to little below half mark.
When I was driving in Coorg, where weather was very cold, the needle stayed just a little above C and ran fine.

Since you have mentioned that Fan starts running when the needle crosses C, I think you need to get the gauge checked for faulty reading.

3. Yes, the old grille looks beautiful. It is a direct fix.
Since I haven't done that myself, I would like someone to second me on that.
Anyways, it is a tough find. Searching since 2 years! :/

Your car is comes under the broad classification of TYPE 1. Still T1 had 3 changes
1. Originally launched in 1986, this car had Suzuki engine. Only way to identify it from outside was inverted triangle on bonnet opener.
2. Somewhere around 1989, Maruti engine was launched. This version had Maruti logo on bonnet opener, similar to Sumit's car.

Both these two versions had straight old grill withMaruti 800 logo.

3. New version with honeycomb grill and NO BONNET opener and some other changes was launched in around 1994.

Hence ur car comes under the last classification. Type1 V3 :)

Your 2nd query would be best answered by Sumit. I have also noticed something similar in his car.

Your 3rd query-Yes it can be fixed.

Regards
Shashi
