This is how I would have preferred the KUV to look like.

Mahindra could have added projector headlights for its higher variants which will be a nice package and it differentiates it from other cars in the market.

I think the design is pretty fine. It is hard to design a handsome SUV/crossover/hatchback on steroids under 4 Lacs. The Ecosport is a rare exception (and quite a pricey one!)

I like the way it looks. Butch from the front and okay from the side. The rear as seen in earlier spy shots are not bad as well.

• All that remains to see is -
• How good is the 1.2 ltr diesel engine in terms of NVH and pulling ability? The power and torque is as good as the swift but I am assuming the KUV will be heavier. It would have been nice if they had a 90-100 bhp diesel on offer as well!
• How good are the interiors? Anything that is close to the TUV's level of quality and fit/finish is fine.
• How well is this loaded? Being a Mahindra, I am sure this one will have all the basics covered plus some more!
• Most importantly, how good is the ride and handling? This can be a fly in the ointment and I will be pleasantly surprised if Mahindra has sorted this out. I am not expecting a Fiat Punto here, but atleast a Maruti Ritz!
• Finally, the pricing! If they start the base petrol at 4.5 Lacs and base diesel at 4.9 Lacs, they should have a winner.

Giving ABS as standard and Airbags as option on all the variants gets a B-I-G thumbs up from me. It's about time our Indian manufacturers start showing the "phoren" brands that they need to take occupant safety seriously and also giving the customers the choice to have a model in his budget with the safety features he needs and not force him to buy a more expensive top end!

I thought it to be super-good looker, it turned out to be like old-school trucks! ( one from the ,standard maybe??)


The 1.2 ltr 3 cylinder diesel seriously?? It is disgusting :( I mean what will one achieve getting much FE when there's no point in de-grading from 4 to 3Cyl!

Never buying this in my wildest dreams too!

KUV and TUV will be a great hit in rural markets , Mahindra is very strong in Rural market and rural people believe in brand Mahindra.
I see a lot of TUVs in rural areas now.

Car is duh! Looks are meh! But, as @raj_5004 and @TSIVipul mentioned, if priced 4.5 & 4.99 for P and D variants, I am sure there are takers for this wanna be, lookalike SUV! But if they price it way more, then this is a DOA product.

I request M&M to recruit some good designers like how Hyundai did. It did turned the table for Hyundai and I hope, with right design and specs with drool-worthy price, M&M can achieve that too!

Mahindra has always made Like it or Hate it Looks.
Coming with XUV 500, The strage Xylo and so on. Those who liked the initial Xuv 500 Looks will surely be sold on this one. KUV looks exactly like a Mini XUV. If XUV was a Pouncing cheetah, this one is a sophisticated Cat/ Kitten.

I do not blame Mahindra for radical and varied styling. TUV was a very nice attempt at opening up eintrely new design theme. Atleast they're not like the Monotonous Manufaturers eg Porshe, BMW or Audi Where ALL the products looks very same from afar and only differences (Outside) are little knick knacks here or there.

What remains to be seen is a strong punchy engine!

Why the tantrums old friend?
If the Skods, Fiats, VW can sell their "Premium" vehicles with underpowered, Un-refined 1.2L 3pot Engines, why the partiality here?
Damm theres even the obnoxious Celerio with some strange 2 Cyl engines which should have been destined for APE rikshwaws or Tempos!

If people can buy 3 pot engines in 7~10 lac catagory ( I am looking at you, Skoda) Then this one will surely fly off the shelves around 4~5 lac bracket.

Guys I have got to know that the KUV is gonna get a bench typre front seat (ala Datsun Go and many old Ambys etc).
We can live with a vibe happy (You listening BHVM?) 3 pot engine which makes the vehicle vibrate quite a bit but what about the bench type front seat?

Ok Bench type seat is still tolerable, as it has a provision for the back to flip down to be used as hand rest, which leaves me with the thought, where does the handbrake go? don't tell me the GO way?

Well then most logical placement would be like in the qualis below the dash where you had to pull like pulling the piston of the Holi pichkari.

saarji, I cannot comment on ergonomics/physical aspects till I've driven the vehicle.
what we are discussing here are look factors (as seen in photo ) and the engine options.
