LOL, true! i am sure mahindra has not designed this!

Honestly, without being biased, based only on exterior looks, i like this one more than Aria, especially from rear. it has a nice muscular & chunky appearance compared to the Aria which looks like an overgrown Vista.

This is awesome! I love the entire exterior design of this monster which looks really fresh! Definitely a huge move by Mahindra and this is going to be my sure shot next car and my first SUV after 6 months of the Launch[clap]
I am sure the production model will look much more muscular and aggressive and have Commanding road presence. The pricing is actually Killer for ~14lacs considering the features Mahindra is providing us in this Macho Boy. Only one thing disappointed me that the day time running LED's will be provided only for Export vehicles[anger] Come on Mahindra! being an Indian company why we Indian's won't get more? I really really do hope that Mahindra at-least offers LED's in the top end model. Rest all is really exciting!

@raj_5004: You've done a Fantastic job by scrapping out those details form the Autocar Mag. I appreciate your efforts form the bottom of my heart as this piece of information has made me extremely happy:)

I really agree with you Raj, it looks a matured Vista and a typical Tata family car again! I too never liked the Aria's looks either from Front or from the rear. Only thing looks pleasing is the side profile view and some interior portions, even the Dashboard of the Aria looks bland. I am happy that Mahindra has got a distinctively fresh design, doesn't matter whoever designs it[thumbsup]

Some info about the W201 from ACI-

1) M&M sources says rendering is 80% accurate but actual vehicle is sharper with a more rakish grille & side profile has an interplay of multiple surfaces, unlike shown in the rendering.
2) This is M&M's first completely in-house designed vehicle.
3) mHawk engine is transversely mounted to maximize cabin space.
4) Daytime running LED lights are for US market.
5) 16" rims for base version & 17" rims for top end.
6) A new 'cougar' transaxle.
7) Cable operated gearbox with 5 & 6 speed options, developed with the help of Ricardo.
8) estimated price is 14L for the top end 4x4.
9) 140 bhp engine with a possible option of a 170 bhp mHawk engine with bi-turbo!

Definitely a huge move by Mahindra and this is going to be my sure shot next car and my first SUV after 6 months of the Launch[clap]
i cant say definitely, but i am desperately waiting for it. if everything is good, this will be the replacement of our innova.

I feel it would be slightly more than 14L. maybe ex-showroom price of 4x2 version would be 14L.

+100 to that.

you are welcome buddy. by the way, for the part marked in bold- same here!

i wont say i totally dislike the Aria but its too similar too the Vista, nothing new. Not so in the W201.

I am happy that Mahindra has got a distinctively fresh design, doesn't matter whoever designs it[thumbsup]
W201 is the first mahindra which has been completely designed in-house by mahindra.

Raj the engine would be the same mHawk engine of Scorpio 120 Hp with slight change in gear ratios.
I would like them to name the engine as mFalcon.
And its AWD full time.

are you sure of this buddy? if its true, i would be disappointed.

ACI & some earlier reports mention that it would be launched with a 140 bhp engine. this has also been confirmed by a mahindra official.

You would be aware that our mHawk engine is basically a 140 bhp engine, just like the safari dicor unit. but because our scorpio's gearbox (NGT 530R) could not take that much load at high speeds, in the scorpio, the engine was detuned to 120 bhp.

Since anyways the W201 is coming with a new 6 speed gearbox, it wont have the limitations present in the scorpio & hence the mHawk engine will have 140 bhp in the W201. infact, it would be a direct fit in the W201 & mahindra would not have to make any changes in the engine to make it churn 140 bhp.

this has been clearly mentioned in ACI & even i feel its logically true.

secondly, i think it is AWD switchable to 2WD, just like in the Aria. but in the Aria, in 2WD mode, the car runs on rear wheels whereas in the W201, it will run on front wheels. this has been confirmed by the mahindra official. I hope Mahindra knows Indian market is a sucker for fuel efficiency & full time AWD wont be accepted well.

I think this beast will come up at-least with 140bhp heart. Although I agree that 120bhp and 6 gears can increase the fuel efficiency but this beast will sorely lack power considering the size and segment this vehicle will be placed into. I also hope that Mahindra come up with another engine with bi-turbo churning out 170bhp in the Top end variant, as mentioned by Raj and am sure the Fortuner and Endy will really feel defeated[cheers]

thanks for pic raj! its looking very humungous and definitely not like any other mahindra..but shape of lights is not very attractive. and if LEDs are also not coming then mahindra is mistaking. hope pricing wil be right. and if that engine is going to be 140BHP then people will also have to compromise on FE! scorpio already doesnt have any good FE.
