Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View

Had a trip to my mom's place to pick her up! Total trip distance was 460 kms and the mileage was 17.8!!! Yay!

While going, we were 4 adults + 3 kids with luggage needed for 1 day stay. We started around 9.30pm on friday and reached my parent's home at around 2.30am! We had couple of breaks and that's that. I maintained steady 80 and never went past as it was midnight and all kids were sleeping. Xcent did managed to bump into couple of bad potholes but no major issues I guess!

The good part was, return leg. Yes. We were 5 adults + 3 kids. Boot was loaded to brim. It should at least weigh more than 250kg(75 kg rice + few kg's of dal!). The car did show it's ability to move at such scenario. I constantly maintained 80 and did turn off A/C for overtaking. And shifted to first gear more than usual, because after crossing certain speed bumps, 2nd gear moving is proving worthless with such load. So where I usually do 2nd from standstill, I had to down-shift to first to get going! But nevertheless, the ride was good, and engine sounded little grumpy at 80+ speeds.

But still the mileage while return was good. It was steady 17 and I am happy about it. And one more point I forgot to mention, 5th adult passenger, if not thin, is indeed a squeeze! But that's one off case, I guess.

Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View

Just reached my home. This weekend was well spent. How? Because I get to drive Xylo(Duh!!), XUV, Thar, Lodgy, SX4 back to back. It was so good, like one moment I am driving XUV, and next, I am second row of Lodgy. Then a small visit in SX4, and hilly road trip in XUV. This past 2 days, had given me a lot of ideas about these vehicles! It was so over-whelming, driving all these vehicles and only thing I missed was my Xcent. :D Because we went to our native in our Xylo!!!!

BTW Xcent crossed 12k mark, this friday!

Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View

Hi All. Its been long since gave any update as such. My boy is doing really fine and I have drove around 7000 Kms which includes ghat driving and highway driving. It is performing really well and I am happy abt the purchase. After 10 months of damage free life my baby had a minor accident last week. Scratches in left side bumper, interior black mark in bumper is visible above fog lamp and at the left side. I thought of changing the bumper but it comes to 6K and painting comes to 4K. I spoke to one of frnd he advised to do a stickering. Fellow members can you pls pour in you kind advises?

Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View

^^ If you read through last 3 pages, you may see that I had the same issue. For me, bumper costed 1.8k and painting was around 5k! But I politely refused because for me, damage wasn't bug. So I suggested them to do it with mild touch up and painting only that area. If you look at the pictures I posted, it was a good job by HASS guys. And it costed me just 2k!! So unless damage is on higher side, try to budge them to do touch up work. Else go for new bumper change. BTW New bumper shouldn't cost more than 8k in total!! Just try some other HASS!!

Just read this link : Link

Look at the damage and if your's is much worse than this, better you go with new bumper. Stickering will spoil the looks IMO and I prefer my cars to be in decent shape.

That is not a damage at all.[:)] Recently while reversing from a narrow parking lot, the back side of the bumper hooked to a metal protrusion which ripped the bumper from the cladding. The local guys did an excellent job for Rs.1,500. Image attached.

Ha ha.. In pic it is not that visible but when you see in person it is clearly evident. Lets see what Hyundai guys are going to say for this.

^^ BTW the damage doesn't look severe enough to replace bumper! So better get it fixed and painted for that particular area. Shouldn't cost more than 2.5k-3k based on what I have experienced!!

Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View

Today, I had a usual conversation with my colleague on debut of 2015 endeavor. It was time to leave. This guy owns an Ecosport TDCi. He wanted to take my car for a spin to see how it drives. The first comment was, "Was this Hydraulic Steering? Because it feels heavy!(Ofcourse he knew it was EPS, but still he had to clarify)". I was like [surprise]. And then he praised how light the clutch is, and how slick gear slotting is.

Then I get to drive his ES, and surprisingly the EPS unit was much lighter than my Xcent! I was like Whaaat? It was so easy and since I drove at low speeds it was no effort. Now my once-light steering feels tight! And man, that gearbox!! Ford should give gearbox like Hyundai, which is lot easier to slot in my opinion.

Overall, my first ES drive was now over and apart from crude engine noise and hard clutch+gear combo, it is a good car! Especially liked taller seating position...

Sorry guys got held up with work. Update on the status. Went to Hyundai and surprisingly one Mr Mohamed who is in-charge of body shop just advised to not spend hefty amount in painting the bumper as that area is prone for accidents and scratches, instead he suggested he will just give a mild touch up with white paint so that the damage will not be visible unless and until you have a close look at it :D For now I have accepted that. Thanks again Furious_driver for ur time :)
