@Sushanto

1. Diesel engine is pathetic. An 1.3L DDiS-like engine would have given Xcent a flying start and roaring sales. Look what Amaze did! An 1.5L engine, but Xcent stuck with puny 1.1L 3 cylinder engine. Come on Hyundai, wake up from dream and stop smoking weed!

2. Design - Although subjective. I like my car. But I hear a lot of people like the front design, they completely hate the rear design. This is another area where it fall, I guess.

You are correct buddy, but someone like you even i like the overall look of Xcent and cmon one cannot get everything can they...

I am planning to book the Xcent S variant, since it is not selling like Amaze or Dzire how much should i get discount. The dealer has provided the on road price to be 6.32 in delhi/ncr. I believe a dealer discount should be available..wat say.....[;)]

hyundai has its own 1.4 diesel mil but to keep costs in check they can't offer 1.4L. also i20 , verna and even the upcoming compact SUV will use the same 1.4

they can't use the same in every car. and obviously developing a new engine will be another problem.
and honda did give the 1.5 but you can very much see the cost cuttings in the amaze.

Both the companies follow different strategies. i loved the amaze diesel when i took a TD but also loved the grand i10's diesel engine. in city limits both were good and car didn't lag even at 100 kmph.

but yeah given it's small size , highway overtaking will be troublesome.

I for one, like the looks of the car. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought this car! I get all I wanted except auto door lock & useful MID.

You should get discounts upto 25k for petrol and 40k for diesel. At least that's what I have read in newspaper some days ago! I bought Xcent S for 6.3L OTR in Coimbatore. SO I guess you can get it for 6L OTR flat, if you bargain well.

I understand i20, Verna & upcoming ix25 will use the same engine. But if they can downsize the 1.4L to 1.2L and plonk it to i10/Grand/Xcent and think how sales will be!

I know it is big pain, but it is worth. A puny 1.2L 4-cyl diesel engine will do wonders in our market. Or else, they can source the Fiat-MJD and plonk it in Grand/Xcent, which is not a big hassle I guess.

1.1L U2 engine is a gem of a engine, in city limits and unless you push it hard. But on open roads, it is easily beaten by all cars. Even my beloved Alto LX used to take on this!

Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View

Hi All,

I just joined this forum today. I want to buy sedan and liked Xcent with premium looks and features. I have booked SX top variant with petrol version and still waiting for the car. But I am hearing negative feedback from many people about the performance of this car.
I thought I can some insight about the actual performance and mileage about this car. Can you let me know if I have taken right decision by choosing this car.

I am just little worried about smartless key as if I am near the car then anyone can open the car. Can you please tell me if this is not a good feature.

Thanks

Smartkey has its own merit.
Think the situation, when your hands are full with luggage, inspite of this you need to get keys from pocket, you need to take keys out..This situation smart key comes in hand.

Don't worry, within the door radius (10 cm radius),the smart key transmitter will be active .

No fusses about anybody without key going to start the car.

first of all Congrats on your booking, you dont need to worry about smart key as it has the range of 10cm therefore no need to worry. I am also using Xcent SX believe me the more time you will spend with the car you will get addicted to its features

First of all, congratulations. Welcome to Xcent family.

Guess you have done thorough TD before buying. Performance is how one defines it and how one perceive it. For me, the performance is good! At times I feel it is not enuff, but then I can live with it, because my usage pattern doesn't demand it. And for me, it is perfect family car and I am loving it for the same!

So for me performance is good. Mileage is better for a petrol car. I am getting decent 13-14 in city and 16-18 in highways based on my driving style.

And finally, regarding smart key. Hyundai did enough research and it will work flawlessly and the chance of someone stealing your car is zero, unless someone come up to you, beat the s**t out of you and steal it. But I don't see that happen very often as of now!

Thanks all for your replies & inputs. I had Test drove in the city only & did't get chance on highway.

My main usage is in the city & few long trips( 450 kilometers ) to Home town.

TD in highway is not required as long as you know how the car behaves! But still, the car won't let you down in highways and even today I went to hilly region and the car just behaved excellently with 4 adults + 1 kid! So you won't be disappointed unless you know how it behaves and how to handle it!

Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View

Last weekend had a chance to test the car in hilly roads once again. This time, it is the road to Ooty. We planned to reach Wellington, but somehow had to return due to urgent work. Initially we planned to visit the temple in Mettupalayam road which is just few kms from Black Thunder. Once visit to temple is over, we started on our way to Wellington. Due to some urgent work, we had to return and it was just 15 kms from Mettupalayam! [cry]

But, this trip gave me an idea of what to expect from my car, and how to handle it! Here are my observations.

1. At some insane gradient road, car was struggling to move with full load! Even with A/C off.

2. Throughout the road, I only managed to drive the car at 50km/h @ 3rd gear with A/C on. I didn't even get a chance to slot 4th gear due to this. But once I turn off A/C, I can easily get the same speed @ 4th gear but with bit of a struggle!

3. Car with A/C on slope is a disaster, with full load. Yes! There are times, I turn it off to gain some pickup and turn it on again.

4. FE!!! With total of 180 km(~45 kms ghat roads!) round trip, the FE I got was 15. For me, it was decent. I bet the ghat section reduced the FE but not very much.

5. I had to work through the gears and this is the first time, I drive a petrol car in hill roads with full load. Our SX4 cruised along the same road with 4 adults + 3 kids!

Overall, I get to know about the car's capability a lot better now. So I can be prepared for our next trip and only thing I left to find is FE in Ooty road. Which I will find by next month.

Hi FD,

Few questions from my end:-

Did the need of slotting into 1st gear arise on any gradient?
Your 1st point of car struggling on gradient with AC off was on which gear?
Can you elaborate your experience stated in point 2?

Not any gradient. Just one mildly-insane(It was like 35-40 degree slope which was curvy too!) one. Even before I went over the road, I knew it is not meant for this car. But still I crossed it. Since it is a tiny service road, I had to go over the gradient @ 2nd gear. But it doesn't climb. So I switched off the A/C and tried, but still it doesn't climb. So I had to downshift and run it over. [frustration]

Can you elaborate your experience stated in point 2?
Regarding that, I can see many cars flying past me on the same road, which means they should travel more than my speed. So I decided to amp up the game by increase the speed! So I shifted to 4th gear to go past 50+, but it started knocking. So, I had to switch off the A/C and it will move. I don't know, but this is what I felt! I maybe wrong or not experienced this before, because as I mentioned I never drove petrol car in hilly road like Ooty!

To give clear picture, our SX4 with same load, can easily cruise @ 60 in 4th gear with A/C. But my Xcent will do this only if I sacrifice the A/C! Get it?

At FUrious Driver,
You could have down shifted to 3rd gear ( You mentioned many where flying past you),you would get more power on hand, then upshift if you get slope (Descend) or downshift again if uphill.

That's what I did. But the problem was, due to the curvy nature of road, even before I gain any momentum I had to decrease the speed and where my SX4 can pull easily in 3rd, Xcent does the same in 2nd!!!

I knew how to tackle this, but I just mentioned here that it is not like a DIESEL car.
