Tightening of clutch wire will only reduce the clutch pedal play.

If you have time do ask him to remove the clutch pedal and show it to you. Just tell him my friend's pedal was broken so I need to confirm. Dont think they should charge for it.
Sure, Thanks for the info. I felt the clutch to be a bit hard when they did the tightening. Now I don't feel it to be that hard, not sure if it has relaxed or I am now used to it [lol]

Met a accident today. Should i claim insurance and lose NCB and resale or fix outside. Front light costs 2300 approx . Can the bumper and side panel be fixed cheap outside ?
My car 10 month old and has comprehensive insurance only.

Taking my Grand (Petrol) for its second service on coming Monday. Have a few things to get sorted -

1. 'TAK' sound from clutch.

2. A little thud noise from rear left suspension on rough patches.

3. Heavy steering wheel (Changed tyres from 165/65/R14 to 185/65/R14). Not very happy with the added weight on tight parking space and city driving conditions, though steering feels planted on high speed. Read somewhere that service center folks can do some belt adjustments to make it lighter/heavier? Experts - Please comment.

4. Tyre rotation and alignment.

5. Intermittent 'Hissing' noise from engine. Has anyone faced it? Any solution?

6. Steering vibrations when the engine fan is on.

7. Engine Oil - I'm thinking to get my own synthetic oil and get it changed at HASS. Spoke with the SA and they don't have any issue with it. Experts - Which grade/temperature range/type etc..? Please advise.

Thanks in advance..

1. 'TAK' sound from clutch.

It's normal with all Grand i10 and xcent whether you notice or not, I verified with Garve Hyundai ,Pune and they confirmed.

2. A little thud noise from rear left suspension on rough patches.
Rear Suspension quite soft, you can't do much about it, this is also normal and common with Grand i10

3. Heavy steering wheel (Changed tyres from 165/65/R14 to 185/65/R14). You can ask for adjustment, but it will be little to help with upgraded tyres, as you chose the highest possible size for Grand i10

4. Tyre rotation and alignment.
Must do, In Indian road condition it;s recommended every 5K KMs.

5. Intermittent 'Hissing' noise from engine. Has anyone faced it? Any solution?
Can you elaborate in detail, if that is while changing gears only, again I will say it;s common with all Grandi10, this car is very particular about the RPM on which gears should be shifted (1100 to downshift and 1900 to upshift), if you change below / above this range multiple sounds you will hear from front. it's nothing related to engine the drive train / gear box and clutch assembly requires perfect gear shift, it;s tedious although.

6. Steering vibrations when the engine fan is on.
should be cautiously examined

7. Engine Oil - I'm thinking to get my own synthetic oil and get it changed at HASS. Spoke with the SA and they don't have any issue with it. Experts - Which grade/temperature range/type etc..? Please advise.
I would suggest stick to semi-synthetic if at all you dislike mineral, Synthetic oil is more useful where temperature plays below 1 degree and exceeds 50 degree at times, Shift to semi synthetic and then 3rd servicing you may choose pure synthetic oil. prepare your engine to digest it happily.

Thanks in advance..
All the best!!

Thanks, SamHyundai..

1. Even I also get this feeling that the "TAK" sound indeed is a common issue with all Grands and Xcents. Checked a few Grands and all of them had the same noise.. Definitely a design fault. So Garve Hyundai did confirm that the 'TAK" sound is present on all Grands and Xcents.. Sad Hyundai doesn't seem to have a fix for this. Not sure if I should get the entire clutch assembly checked since it seems to be unlikely that it would yield any result..

2. The suspension noise isn't very prominent and I'm not very concerned about it either.. Lets see if HASS can do something about it.. :)

3. I hope they can do some sort of adjustment to it. I sorely miss that feather light steering wheel :(

4. Yup, getting it done for sure..

5. Interesting point. Never checked.. Would keep an eye on it to find out the pattern. Will update..

6. Yes, this needs to be checked thoroughly.

7. I have also realized that pure synthetic oil is may be too early for now. Semi synthetic it is :) Easy on my pocket, too..! Thanks again for your input. Tc.

Attention to all folks with Hyundai cars -

Hyundai is running discounts on service and extended warranty till 26th Sep. Guess they are offering 10-15% discount. Planning to buy 3rd year extended warranty for my car.

Gave the car for 90 points free checkup which Hyundai provided. Had no major complaints and after the checkup I was informed by technicians that everything is fine with the car. The TAK sound in the clutch is now reduced and as I said before, after my change in driving it is better now. Hyundai gave 20% offer on extended warranty. I took 3rd year extended warranty by paying Rs 3617.

Are you sure you got 20% discount on the 3rd year extended warranty because I've been quoted 3193 for the same for my Grand Petrol? Pardon me if you have a different car/model.

Did you get the Tak sound checked? Anything thy said about it?

Thanks..

My car is Xcent petrol and they showed me official price list which was around 3200 odd plus service tax. I checked in Hyundai website it was around 3850. So that 3200 should be offer price. Regarding the TAK sound he said it's fine and no need to worry. He also informed clutch play is checked and all's well. Will drive this Monday and update here

It's not strange considering the way clutch lever is mounted, and the Tak' sound has nothing to do with clutch assembly / flywheel. Recently I drove a 10 days old VW Ameo and it had that tak sound as well, If you notice it's replica of pedal arrangement of Hyundai.
What is strange IMO about Grandi10 / Excent is it's intolerance to a casual way of drive, you must release the clutch at sharp RPMs , change the gears cautiously unlike 2 finger touch shift of VW or even Maruti, the gear rod travels a longer way which must be supported throughout it's journey or the overactive springs will pull it on their own. You can't use clutch in 2nd gear to crawl the car (which is a big NO and really unnecessary specially to this car) or revv with clutch depressed in 1st gear, doing so clutch will punish you getting hard and by hitting your toes, sense it while you drive and the car speaks loud and clear. Newbies would rather drive Swift / figo more confidently.
Don't forget the thumb rule, wait atlest 30 seconds before driving a cold engine and wait for radiator fan to finish it's job before turning off the engine. Never ever turn off a very hot engine if you want to prolong engine life and drive it for 2L+ KMs without any issues.

Hmm.. Honestly, this is the first time I have heard this sort of clutch noise from any car. Our family has owned/owns Vento petrol, Honda City (1st, 2nd and 3rd gen), Tata Indica, Creta petrol, Cruize, Swift and what not but never came across this noise (Grand being my own car though). What baffles me more is how conveniently Hyundai folks shrug off this noise as if they didn't hear it while checking the car. One of the advisors told me the noise comes when you don't press the clutch completely and shift gears and I sooo wanted to reach him some basics of "how not to look foolish by saying foolish stuff to your customers"..

Anyway, whatever the reason is, I'm just not convinced that a normal clutch should make that noise unless something is not right.. I'm sure nothing concrete would happen to it and I would have to keep adjusting my driving style but this is definitely one of those things I would have to check whenever I shop for my second car which would happen soon :)

and how long will it take for the fan to cool down the engine ?

Edit : so I just did a research and no one says to do this to cars except cars with a turbo charger.
It is ideal to wait for the turbo to stop before turning off the engine and it's not related to heat but to let the oil pass through. If the turbo is spinning and you turn the car off the oil( to cool down the turbo) can get stuck , heat up and actually make muck inside the turbo causing it to fail after some time

Hi Samhyundai and Others

Just came back from a long drive to understand the 'Hissing' sound from the engine and though there is no fixed pattern, I found something interesting - the hissing sound ONLY comes when the AC is on. Period. There is no such sound without AC. So I'm assuming the issue is with AC. Also noticed that the sound is more audible and prominent when the RPM is between 1500 to 2400, though not always.. Also, it has nothing to do with gear shift and/or which gear the car in on..

Have an appointment @1000 hrs tomorrow. Hoping the issues would be sorted without any fuss. Though I'm concerned about how I would make them listen to the sound since it isn't loud, particularly in the traffic [thinking].

It will take around 30 secs to 1 min after a long drive or returning from heavy traffic roads, the logic here is to let the radiator fan finish it's job and not to completely let it off with oil cooling that's why a radiator fan is invested in. did you notice the noise from radiator often in said situations?
dig more into automotive forums (not to name here) and you will find it.

Hi Nitinmehta,
That's why I asked if it's specifically occurring at gear shift, In your case this indicates something with ECU as the engine power share to 118 cc AC compressor takes in. an ECU reprogramming may resolve it. If the error is recorded HASS should be able to see by attaching console monitor.
