Hi guys,
Time to cheer up, [:)]I returned back after 5 days and yes my new grand i10 did not betray me. It started with a touch as it supposed to be [clap] SO no battery issue for me.
I would like to remind you though that I had put Master SWITCH to OFF position before going. Today when I came back and opened the car with manual key, as soon as I switched ON the Master Switch Car started honking as intruder alarm was activated. For a moment I was puzzled but then realized it and put it off by pressing lock button on the key. So guys there isnt any issue with car I feel its just you have to follow the instructions.
This is indeed very good news!now I need not worry about the battery issue. In any event I will be driving daily.I will still take this up with the dealer when I meet him tomorrow.

Please also check this honking feature on your car.

Guys is Grand well equipped on anti theft front? Or we have to look for
Aftermarket solutions.

Did you try on your car parth? Could you get the alarm activated?
Yes it did. I tried just like that. I mean no switching off fuse just try with
Manual key It honks.
But it honks on opening the door. Not on intrusion attempt.

Nice pics man.
@seat covers buddy just honest opinion. The original upholstery is better
Quality than the covers.pls don't mind.

yaa you are right it does that only when you open the door. May be coz I had main switch OFF it did when I switched it ON. But it does that when key is not around and a thief tries to break open the door lock and enters the car. So I feel its a good anti theft alarm.

Yes I know covers dont look very good but I had no other option as they were not available for grand and I didnt want to soil the original one in these rainy days here in hyderabad. Didnt want to use a set of 6 towels as one of my friend is doing for his grand.[:D] As i said earlier these are old i10 covers. I hope covers matching with original upholstery will soon there be in market. I shall buy them later. If hyundai provides them they wont be less than 8-9k for sure for initial period.

Can you post pics of grand i10 original floor mats and mud guards. I feel I have got those of old i10.

tHANKS PARTH. Mine are that of rubber like old one of yours.
Now as I have driven the car past 100 Kms, I would like to know what method you use for calculating FE. Can we measure FE without tankful method. I mean by partly filling the tank. What if we reset the trip meter and know the fuel consumption between two parts ( Fuel gauge is divided into 6 equal parts) but for that fuel gauge should be linear.

Yes I follow the same method to get an idea of approximate running figure.
It is not very accurate. The tankful method is the best method.

Grand i10 has anti theft alarm(actually a horn),it activates if you open the doors. It does not have shock sensors which would alarm if anyone intrudes breaking glass etc

Exactly that's why I was thinking whether additional aftermarket security system is required?
And how about the door locks guys does it automatically lock once the car starts moving? I have some confusion there.

This one thing is indeed confusing. As per the different car websites grand doesnt have speed sensing door locks but today at one occasions I did find them getting auto locked. Didnt experienced it before though.

Well friends, I have few queries please help:

I have purchased my grand a week back. As I am new to driving in city (I have been driving in hills for past 5 years occasionally), at two or three times I have really done things which as per the service manual are not good for engine in the initial period. I would like to know your views on the following points regarding the breaking-in of the engine:
1) On three occasions I have revved the engine in the red zone for like a second or two. [frustration] Will it damage the engine or have adverse effect on breaking-in. Can I still expect the engine to break-in in a good way. [confused]
2) While reversing my car I had my hand brake engaged and could realize it only after parking. How does it affect the vehicle.
I have never crossed 60 KM/H till date. Please tell me is it ok to rev the engine in the red zone occasionally by mistake or should we be extremely careful about it.
One more thing when I over revved it.. I could smell something like rubber burning smell inside car. I feel I am driving real bad on occasions while rest of the time I keep track of everything. Please advise me on this. [cry]
Thanx.

Hi Vipin..

As i mentioned in my earlier post .. once in a while won't do much damage as per the over revving is concerned. Majority of the drive should be between 1500-2500 rpm and that will keep the engine good. There is no limit on speed though. You can drive at 70-90 in 4th and 5th gear as it stays < 2500 rpm at that point of time so not an issue.

For the handbrake , once or twice would not have done much damage. Just make sure it does not happen now . Let it be in the first to do list when you enter the car ..When you do it first for 5-6 times you won't forget it.

I have never experienced auto door locks in my grand and am pretty sure that feature is not present. Were you alone in the car when this happened ? Once i thought it had actually happened but then it was my wife who had pressed the lock button on the other front seat [;)].

Ya buddy I think I have to learn the proper use of clutch in city driving. I was occasionally smelling bad smell inside car that was perhaps due to clutch slip. How do you use your clutch in stop and go traffic? When I apply breaks I press clutch to avoid stalling the engine. Shall I apply full clutch or half while doing so. I feel clutch wears out sooner when we engage it half. Does it mean we should totally avoid half clutch usage?

My over revving was coz of nervousness most of the time. I will get rid of it soon but I hope I dont hurt the engine by then.[sad]

I have to find it out. I was never alone in the car but I asked my wife whether she did that and she said she didnt. I will try next time I go for drive.

In what circumstances you are over revving the engine?Like you are at a signal and want to move quickly?
Some suggestions:
- Please go to an open place and try the situation that makes you nervous. Like Shifting quickly from 1st to second to get speed (if that is the case.) This will give you some ease.
- Do not get nervous because others are honding, take your own time speed up.
(because even if you speed up quickly under nervousness it's not a good thing under Indian traffic condition )

-Regarding half youse of clutch, IMO its almost impossible to avoid it in Bumper to Bumper traffic conditions so thats ok. Just make sure you dont ride the clutch and you press it completely while gearshifts.
-If you are using brakes and engine is about to stall you should use full clutch and downshift instead of using clutch and brake for a longer period.
