Had a mishap on Sunday afternoon. I was driving on Vashi Bridge, going to Chembur. About 200-300 m after the toll plaza, I see the car ahead of me slowing down and then stopping suddenly. I have to to brake hard and thanks Hyundai so the superb brakes. After a moment of brakes locking up because of looze gravel on the road, the car stops about a meter or two away from the car in the front. But after a second, an Ertiga bangs my car from behind. The impact was such that my car bangs the car in the front too. The impact on the front car is not much and he drives away.

Now the guy behind seemed like a 22-24 yrs old fellow and had 3 women in his car. He said he braked because he saw the smoke from my tyres. Clearly not enough braking force used by him [;)].

I let him go after taking a pic of his num plate and the banged area. Didn't want to scare the ladies so didn't make him wait or drag him to the cops. But should I have asked him to pay upfront?

Pics below.

Some Pics. The rear cross member is badly bent and the hatch does not open. There is a small deformation behind the B-pillar. Hoping that the chasis is not damaged and I dnt have to give the car away in scrap.

Well from the pics, your car can very much be repaired. The rear bumper and boot need to be replaced. If the damage on B-Pillar is not that severe, it can be tinkered and the rear door can be very much aligned to normal position. I hope you do have Zero Dep Insurance. Keep those pics of the other car which banged your car from behind. You might need to show them while survey is being done.

I had a similar accident just before diwali 2015 where a tailgating innova banged my car. I had to replace my rear bumper and boot and repaint them. Along with this I had to even claim repairs for my front bumper which was scrapped on LHS. in all the bill amounted to rs 39k from which 35k was paid by insurance and remaining 4k by me.

Out of this 4k, 3k was for logos like grand i10, 1.2, sportz, Hyundai. Which i think is absolutely unnecessary. The logos can be easily removed from old boot and pasted on new boot and this cost can be avoided. The new logos were already stuck on the boot before I got to know that it had to be replaced and I would have to pay for them.

The claims & repair work took 10 days @ Goregaon workshop, since they had to wait 2 days for new boot.

Like you even I have bought my car from modi Hyundai.

Thanks for the reply guys. Showed the car to multiple workshops to see if there is a consensus on the damage happened. Will show it to Hyundai tomorrow and see if they are looking to rip off the insurance company.

I did not opt for comprehensive insurance this time which I shud have. The accident happened the day after I renewed the insurance. So was safe that way. Will keep all posted.

Hi guys,

I got bumped into by a unweildy bus, fortunately the damage done was not much, only the left front fender got crumpled, please see attached pic for reference.
Can anybody advise me about the cost of getting this dent repaired, there is a very minor scratch where the paint is peeled off, I guess I shouldn't be claiming insurance fir this repair.
PS - I live in south Delhi area, any pointers to a good mechanic will be highly appreciated ..

Use NOKIA Here Maps which has offline navigation. Please download the city/state on your mobile and use it with GPS for offline navigation, i.e without 3g/2g. I used HERE maps from NOIDA to NAINITAL. However the draw back of an GPS device is that it wont work well when its very cloudy or if its raining since the device cannot receive signals from the GPS. Very soon India wil have IRNS and then our dependence on GPS will be a thing of the past and we will get better services https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Regional_Navigation_Satellite_System
