Yesterday on lazy afternoon i have taken my Grand i10 to nearby area along with my two friends. We had some tea and while coming back i have taken different route towards my home which has two 35 degrees gradient.

The idea to was to test its climbing capacity on these gradients with 3 adults. To my utter surprise, this Grand has climbed both slopes without any struggle on 2nd gear without providing any accelerator input, though the RPMs were consistently maintained by engine itself to 1000.

Is this the normal behavior for any 1.2L car or :stupid:

^^ That is weird. I mean if you are climbing and RPM consistently hover @ 1000 RPM @ 2nd gear means, it should have been running @ 20km/h. If that case, 35 deg gradient is not so tough to climb IMO. Can someone verify this?

I had kept constant eye on RPM to avoid bogging hence could not check the speedometer, but i guess i felt it less than 20Kmph

I have done it in my office parking couple of times, but in first gear. Its a basement parking so gradiant is definitely more but GRAND pulls withot any acceleration.

I too have noticed that the grand i10 pulls on an incline without any throttle input, just with the torque. I've tried it many times in basement parkings in malls and it pulls up well at around 20kmph on the 2nd gear. 114nm of torque. [:)]

^^ Did the same in small incline of about 25-30 degree and it pulls well. Mine is Xcent BTW. I have experienced this mostly in diesel engines, and not in petrol ones. It is pretty new to me!

Its nice to hear the climbing experience from you all. Mine is petrol one and it climbed in 2nd gear [:D]
I will try it in 3rd gear next time. But by doing this are we providing any harm to engine ?

No harm to the engine. Be cautious in 3rd gear,I am sure it wont pull.
However its not just with GRAND other cars with similar engine specs will do this as well

Yesterday accidently I hit my Grand's underbody engine exaust pipe. I was going through some bad roads and this happened.[frustration][surprise]. The speed of my car during that hit was around 20-25 Kmph.

I checked for other things but as of now there are no leakage anywhere in the underside.

My query is that is whether the dent that is formed will in someway deteriorate and form a hole in the pipe in the near future?

What will be the impact of that?

What is the best possible solution for it right now?

Should i continue without bothering much unless i notice some leakage or should I get it fixed by the authorized service center?

@ i10grand, are you observing any difference in the engine after this like change of sound, throttle response temperature change (slight)than usual?
Technically this would cause some backpressure to the engine based on the amount of reduction in crossection of the exhaust pipe.
from the image it seems this is only bend and no chances of rupture so not seeing leakage in near future.
IMO just get it checked from service center or your trusted mechanic, and you may take your time for repairing.

Hi All,

At last second free service is been done for my Grand i10. The bill amount is Rs.1131 only [:)]
They have replaced engine oil, filter and caliper kit (front). Also done cleaning of rear brake shoes.

The car has become smooth, they have changed the clutch bite and it is again going to take some time for me for getting used to this new setting. Rest all is well.

Guys, its time for me to make PUC as my car is completing one year this week. Does HASS does this or should i go to regular petrol pumps to get this done?
