Actually thats not how it works, in Europe there isnt specifically a class of compact SUVs like we have in Europe, there Ford needs to fight hard with tough competitors like Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Citroern C3, and some quirky models like Nissan Juke etc, all of which are priced in Creta-Tuscon range,
So they have to give a far more appealing product, here in India Ecosport is priced lowest among all car markets where Ecosport is sold and for that reason I feel Ford is doing things with Ecosport as of now, and we see this in sales as well, its only Ford that has consistently sold over 2500 units despite heavy cross winds and excess pressure from competition, shows how much pricing matters, so if Ford gives Ecosport more gadgets and more advanced systems and overall a more advanced car wouldnt it sell?
No it wont because Ecosport dosent offer the premium space its competitors offer , Ford knows that , so more features within a compact pack but one that lacks SPACE inside to rival its peers wont sell in India, so I feel the current pricing and new Ecosport will be featured to cater majority of Indian populations needs, which is also important, otherwise Ford might have to go Fiat,Chevrolet way.
If this is true it will be sad. Whatever said and done, a ~25% increase in power and torque would have made the ES a real hoot to drive, and leaps and bounds ahead of others in its class. Plonking an AWD would have made it the outright choice of car below 15 lakhs. But I guess, that's no to be.
