Re: Ford EcoSport Facelift 2017 Exclusive Spyshots

Any idea when is this launching? No official information on Ecosport facelift. We are already in September...
someone above mentioned Oct.

BTW, just got a call from ford saying that they have stopped Test Drives of Ecoboost versions all over india, he didnt give any specific reason but i guess it may be related to the updated launch. why would anyone buy a different engine like ecoboost without a test drive.

As per reports its launch should be by October ie Diwali season, as Ford usually makes launches at Diwali

This could be bad news as well as good news,
Since the current gen Ecosports 1.5l TiVCT is going to get replaced by new 1.5l Dragon petrol with 123 PS motor maybe the ecoboost will get a power bump from 123 to 140 PS like in UK to maintain that premium barrier for ecoboost engines or the bad part maybe that Ford might discontinue Ecoboost engines

Cant tell which of these will be Fords decision.

Re: Ford EcoSport Facelift 2017 Exclusive Spyshots

I havent heard such a weird explanation[lol]

See who cares which platform BRV is derived from, if Ford had derived Ecosport from Ford Global C ie Focus platform the comparison would be fair according to @kkn13, the Ecosport is based on global B ie the Fiesta platform ie the platform that fights with Jazz,Micra,Hyundai i20,Maruti baleno,VW Polo etc based platforms

The Ecosport platform is derived from Fords B Platform, same way the Brio platform is Hondas cheapest platform just like fords cheapest platform globally is its B platform, as of now Ford has even cheaper platform based on its global B platform ie the B500, B562,(563,563E under development), so the Ecosport vs brio based BRV is absolutely valid and easily them ost valid comparison and the City vs Ecosport comparison is the most invalid of all comparisons logically and even objectively and subjectively
because
City-> Derived from Hondas D sedan based Civic
Ecosport-> Derived from Fords B hatch back based Fiesta

City
Its sedan
Its way more lighter so any KID should know that a lighter car will have higher power to weight ratio
Its got better CD as its more aerodynamic
puny 175 mm tires for big advertised mileage

Ecosport
Its a compact SUV and actually one with a sub frame to add AWD which few other mainstream compact SUV as of now holds except maybe the upcoming Renault Captur, Creta, current gen Duster, not the Brezza nor KUV100,
Again all this means Ecosport is 1246 kg with 1.5 petrol and MT while City is just 1109 kg over 130 kg heavier means if you want to directly compare Ecosport 1.5 petrol vs Honda City 1.5l iVTEC, 1st you have to load the City with 2 extra people other than driver and then compare performance with Ecosport that has just driver alone, other wise it is most stupid and unfair comparison
Even hence its not fair as Ecosport has to push its beefy front portion against air while the slich front of City will pierce through air much better so again no comparison
Then the 175 vs 205 section tires, I mean its 3 cm more contact per side means its 6 mm more contact patch, how on earth will the Ecosport be able to push fast straight with that much more rubber on ground? with that extra rubber Ecosports straight line pace and power definitely will take a toll but at the benefit of lateral grip and Control

So if there is some common sense, in comparing something from Honda stable with Ecosport it has to be between Ecosport and BRV/WRV
TLDR you dont understand how Brio platform cars are vastly inferior
Brio platform is nothing in front of Ford's lower segment platforms

Civic based cars are much better than Brio based

Dont compare the cars directly, thats apples to oranges
both have pros and cons
BRV and Mobilio are terrible examples to use
Had WRV been a 1.5 IVTEC in India ,it would have been perfect to compare even though I regard the Ecosport better than the current City as a platform
Current City doesnt feel as good as the 3rd gen as many owners and reviewers will agree

compare engines, 1.5 IVTEC is the better all rounder, 1.0 Ecoboost doesnt like traffic and likes frequent downshifts

City and Ecosport comparison is apparently unjustified because you feel the derivative segments are mismatched? sorry but they both are in the same price range and are bound to be compared, like it or not
No one needs to add weight to compare the two the way you are suggesting, unless you are planning to drive ecosport alone and let your passengers take a cab because it slows you down or something

Just curious.. Are these Dragon series engines Turbocharged?
Asking this question since heard the news that facelift Figo/Aspire also getting 3Cyl 1.2L Dragon series Petrol engines.

No Dragon Engines are not Turbocharged, they are like Ecoboost Engines without the Turbocharger. They get all the other tech, Direct injection, unbalanced flywheel etc.

No @kkn13 is utterly wrong
Reason is simple, just because VW Jetta and VW Tiguan are based on same platform are these cars comparable?
No, 1 is an SUV another is a sedan
The Jetta will perform miles better than the Tiguan in braking, handling, ride quality, real world mileage and straight line pace,
Can @kkn13 compare a Honda Accord with a Honda CRV, both are based on same platform?

See thats the issue, Ecosport CANNOT BE COMPARED WITH SEDANS, ECOSPORT CAN BE COMPARED WITH WRV/BRV , shape size form etc matter not just the platform

And the extra weight difference do make a world of a difference in how the Ecosport feels, I mean ask anyone even in TAI, the Honda City feels tinny in comparison with Ecosport and that with a small turbo is bound to feel sluggish,
the best example is Maruti baleno Boosterjet, Its a light car but despite its lighter kerb weight one needs way more down shifts in the boosterjet than the regular 1.2 K series Baleno , but luckily since the gearshifts are smooth and slick those shifts are entertaining, same way in Ecosport as well the gearshifts are great and makes for a fun experience
And regarding 1.5 iVTEC WRV vs 1.5 Dragon Ecosport, despite Ecosport being heavier the Ecosport is a better car to drive according to most Brazilian reviews, want proof?

Check this review, and from my experience with Honda City, its a good car, but it needs to be revved hard to get the best out of that engine, the only advantage Honda has is that their cars with 1.5l iVTEC are super light, Honda City,Honda Jazz(in Brazil), and in India the BRV gets it and its sluggish, again concretes my point more, any NA engine if made to do duty on a car with higher kerb weight will struggle dosent matter whether its Honda,Ford,VW,Toyota or any, the advantage turbo charged engines have here is that if at all it struggles at lower rpm a slight down shift will allow way more torque leading to much better response but of course at the expense of efficiency
Just curious.. Are these Dragon series engines Turbocharged?

The Dragon engines are atmospheric engines, not turbo charged

Re: Ford EcoSport Facelift 2017 Exclusive Spyshots

I think Ford India Domestic and Export Sales have slumped by 40% in August 2017. This indicates that they have probably been retooling the Chennai Factory for the production of Ecosport Facelift.

This clearly indicates once GST rates are finalized on 9 September, we can expect the launch 1 week after that ~~ around 15 September.

Regarding Dragon series, the 1.5 is based on I3 1.5 Ecoboost(200PS) without the Turbo charger.

The Tech which it will share with the Ecoboost engines will be
1. Direct Fuel Injection
2. Intergrated Exhaust Manifold
3. Engine life time 240K KM Timing belt bathed in Engine Oil
4. Elimination of Balance shafts by having unbalanced flywheel Pulley etc.
5. 2 independent Camshafts with Variable Oil pump which to generate Torque at low RPM by opening Intake and Exhaust Valves at the same time.
6. Separate Coolant Valve to ensure Coolant cools the engine head only after the Engine heats up.

There are probably anther 10-12 patented innovations for these engines. And Like the I3 1.0 Ecoboost they will probably come up with Hydraulically mounted Engines which improve handling.

Regarding Honda City, Highway driving the 1.0 ES even with Ecosport weight gives better Mileage, Handles better, is more stable and brakes better with 205 section tyres and makes overtaking far easier as you have full torque from 1.5 k RPM. 1.5 Vtec gets very noisy above 3K-4K RPM where the power really is. In city traffic yes 1.5 Vtec with Honda city will feel better to drive.

just got calls from 3 dealers in mumbai after i made an inquiry with ford on Twitter. all 3 confirmed that ecoboost engines are no longer into production. that confirms that the update is close to launch and only 1.5ltr 3cyl will be the petrol option and no ecoboost.

I am not sure, there is a Titanium S version with spare tyre seen on Indian roads, as mentioned here earlier, the New Ecoboost 140 PS version could be there in only Titanium S version. The current 125PS Ecoboost will most probably be discontinued.

But here in Trivandrum last week also a distant friend of mine booked Ecosport 1.0 ecoboost Trent+, and delivery is due on September last I guess, so its all contradicting, maybe its the last stock with 125 PS ecoboost.
Also I dont think Ford will launch Ecosport by September, maybe they will arrange a reveal show for the new Dragon engine and Ecosport will most probably be launched by Diwali only as thats when the nation jumps for a big purchase as well as when the GST will be finding some stability.

That could well be a high possibility, Fords Figo S has garnered very good response from customers, its said that one in 5 new Figos sold is a Figo S, so its 20% people opting for a sporty car, so I think a 140 PS Ecosboost Ecosport S would fit well in the mix, sure it wont garner 20% customers like Figo S has because Figo S is diesel but with petrol will get maybe around 10% customers, means on an average Ford sells around 3500 Ecosports per month so 350 ecoboost Ecosport S will make for a good proportion as well.

yes, it must be the old stock, 1 dealer in nerul told me that he had 1 white ecoboost version pending in their stock yard, so he could give me the TD for that and i will have to buy that car only.

Re: Ford EcoSport Facelift 2017 Exclusive Spyshots

I think it will be launched in September, Ford India factory Domestic sales have come down by around 800 but there Exports have come own by 9K in August 17. That indicates a disruption in production at the factory, That most probably means the Chennai factory is being fitted out with the new tooling for the Ecosport and they are no longer producing the pre face lift Ecosport.

A Lot of Businesses buy cars at the end of September for full year depreciation as per Income tax. SO if Ford dealers have cleared been able to clear most the stocks of the pre facelift version, I expect the Launch of the Facelift version around 15-20 September.

But ecoboost test drive had been difficult to get even in the golden days of Ecosport bookings ,
And dealer saying that @akshat812 need to buy that ecoboost alone is a sign that its a back log stock, meaning launch of face lift is nearing.

If thats ow it works, it will be awesome, but my bet still is on October ie Diwali 2017

TLDR you simply cannot accept facts, TD everything properly then compare
No point arguing , TD will show the truth
Ownership more so like me
