Also a bit confused between to go for a Honda City ivtec MT and Ford Ecosport TDCI manual. Honda City quality off late has gone down by a huge margin, however the resale is better and good after sales. Ford on the other hand has a better Ground clearance tough build quality.

Any Comments from fellow group members please
Hi

Not sure about the TDCi engine being BSVI compliant but I do not think it requires multiple changes to adhere to those norms.

City vs. Ecosport - aren't you comparing petrol vs diesel? Choice should be basis your monthly run.
1. Reg. sedan vs. SUV, City definitely has way lesser ground clearance than Ecosport so that should be a factor.
2. Rear leg space will be better in city and Ecosport will have relatively better ingress/egress.
3. Last time I checked, V variant of city is comparable to Titanium+ based on OTR price. V variant loses out on features.
4. Build quality is better in Ecosport.
5. Resale seems good for Ecosport also according to recent reports. City will be marginally better.
6. Have heard not so good after sales stories of Honda. Ford seems better in this aspect too.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks for your revert.

@ Hitzcofield do you own one?

The only other grouse is the hard diesel clutch in Mumbai traffic vs petrol clutch.
Any feed back on clutch hardness form any existing long term ecosport users please?

Drove the auto petrol dragon engine too very smooth but no fun and very sedate drive compared to the TDCI fun factor with better efficiency.

Drove the news ecosport Diesel titanium + loved the interiors and the drive. No turbo lag and clean sweep it feels quite like a petrol engine unlike the turbo lag of DDIS. Is this TDCI engine BS VI compliant?

I suggest Honda City iff there is need for regular commute for back seat passengers
And regarding after sales and service, Ford is on par or better than Honda nowadays
Also resale is not better for Honda City, in fact surveys have shown that Ford Ecosport has the 2nd highest resale and depreciation resistance of any car in India
http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...brezza-vs-honda-wrv-vs-mahindra-tuv300-2.html
Also the new Dragon petrol motor is BS VI compliant but not the TDCi in fact no car engine in India under 15 lakhs has a BS VI compliant engine other than the Dragon engine and the Baleno Booster jet engine as of now.

If there is choice for petrol why not take a look at the Petrol Manual Ecosport, its just around 10.5 lakhs on road for Titanium and is fun to drive and has enough power and a smooth and light clutch, also gives better mileage than AT Ecosport because its around 90 kg lighter than Titanium+ Ecosport

Hi,

I owned one in the past but only for six months as I developed lower back issues. Due to this, had to shift to automatics.

Have you tried using paddle shifters in S Mode? I found them fairly responsive giving sufficient control.
However, as 1989rs500 suggested, you can check out the Titanium manual version. You miss out only on good to have features while retaining all essentials.

Hi,

yes the Titanium is good but the + excels with 6 airbags 17inch wheels leather upholstery and the flat bed which is super cool.

Will try the titanium petrol too ... love the torque spread of diesel and I believe somewhere down the line with full load and uphill the Dragon will face lack of power/torque for sure.

Of course one cant deny that,
What I am saying is this lack of torque wont be a problem unless we make regular commutes with .ore than 2 on board, its our personal driving style and how often we have people in our car that natters, if its like only less than 5 days that there will be more than 3 on board there will be no need for diesel, rest of days if car is driven alone petrol will make more sense economically and in fun department.
If money is not a problem and if @irfan C is ready to spent a little more of course diesel Titanium+ is best buy, and to add to it, Ecosports clutch is not that heavy. Its light enough and one will easily get used to it.

Congratulations LS, she looks very nice in the blue colour.
Do share with us the delivery experience and initial ownership report with a lot of pics.
Happy Miles Ahead
thanks Prakritij.delivery experience is a whole lot another story and ownership review has to wait .busy work schedule

Congrats LS, on your Ecosport T+, beautiful color, enjoy your ride and awaiting your review.

Cheers
Thank you sirji. review will take time.

Someone told me that stepny cover is company fitted for all models except titanium plus. Is it true ??? And does anyone has accessories list with prices.??
yes stepny cover has to be purchased seprately for titanium & titanium+ models

Heard that all non-alloy variants (Trend+ and below) have this. However, do not have confirmation
yes its correct. This is because of the difference between the cost of alloy wheels & steel wheels at factory levels.the amount difference is passed on, in the form of spare wheel cover for non alloy varients.

Quality isnt off by a huge margin
I own the 3rd gen City and I do feel a drop in quality but not too bad, just not what you would expect coming from a previous gen whose fit and finish etc is a bit better

Now coming back to your query-
Ford has better torque being a diesel, City has better power
Dynamics of City is a bit better being a sedan but this is evened out due to Ecosport ground clearance and driving position
Clutch of City is the smoothest on any car ive driven so far, it take a bit of practice to move the car suddenly in traffic without releasing too quickly and thats a good thing but low torque means frequent accelerator input
Space is better in City and suspension at the back is more cushy

So this is a tough call and purely preference based but in the end, either car will leave you happy
Creta and Verna are also worth checking out imho

Overall Id say stretch and get Ecosport petrol AT , its a fantastic package and only con is the rear legroom else its better than most cars in the market and has nearly zero compromise
Im very happy with Honda and Ecosport has also caught my eye
Unless HRV comes to India,Ecosport is certainly my next car

just back from 500 km highway drive, all i can say is this car is a beast on the highways.no turbo lag
free revving diesel engine and that torque spread between 1750rpm-3250rpm gives a very healthy pickup. with three adults and boot full of luggage this car did not bog down even once .the relentence push you get is amazing, you have to experience it to believe it. at speeds of 120kmph the driver is yawning. unless you look at the speedometer, one will not know the silly speed the car is doing & to speak of in gear acclecation is like i am above 120 had to apply brake came down to 65 or 70 one gear down i am gone in the winds .my advice to people who are buying petrol manual spend extra and go for diesel its worth it

ps lane changing at highway speed is like eating a piece of cake.Changing lanes at above mentioned speed is unthinkable for a vehicle with 200mm of ground clearance,no body roll felt

Nice to hear that from an owner
Anyway I wouldn't say the diesel is better for someone who want that quiet cabin, hushed calm and smooth experience, specially for those who have been used to petrol cars, I still felt some vibrations on clutch of new Ecosport TDCi while I just started her up at the yard, its not huge compared to diesels like one in Innovas etc but still its perceptible, if driving is just under 10,000 kms a year the petrol does feel like better value as it will take at least 2 years to reach diesels initial buying cost

Another thing is petrol needs a specific driving style, once one gets used to it even the lack of torque isnt a big issue, one will down shift and use revs to take care of situations

While I agree that diesel cannot be compared to petrol, but the Ecosport NVH has improved by quite a margin over previous iteration. I saw a video where they explained the additional cladding underneath the bonnet to further reduce NVH. Compare it to cars like Nexon, City, Dzire and one will find that the sound is hardly audible.

yes you are correct the engine is barely audible at idle, unless you look at the tachometer
