with ford announcing 4% hike in prices from jan, i am bit confused. if i book ES on coming weekend and the delivery happens in jan, will i be charged 2018 price? or is the price charged at the time of allotment of the vehicle?
I suggest indeed they increase prices by 4%, it is too much premium over the Nexon OR Brezza. You can always evaluate at the time car is ready for Delivery.
Dont loose your sleep over it. Keep your options open.

Quality isnt off by a huge margin
I own the 3rd gen City and I do feel a drop in quality but not too bad, just not what you would expect coming from a previous gen whose fit and finish etc is a bit better

Now coming back to your query-
Ford has better torque being a diesel, City has better power
Dynamics of City is a bit better being a sedan but this is evened out due to Ecosport ground clearance and driving position
Clutch of City is the smoothest on any car ive driven so far, it take a bit of practice to move the car suddenly in traffic without releasing too quickly and thats a good thing but low torque means frequent accelerator input
Space is better in City and suspension at the back is more cushy

So this is a tough call and purely preference based but in the end, either car will leave you happy
Creta and Verna are also worth checking out imho

Overall Id say stretch and get Ecosport petrol AT , its a fantastic package and only con is the rear legroom else its better than most cars in the market and has nearly zero compromise
Im very happy with Honda and Ecosport has also caught my eye
Unless HRV comes to India,Ecosport is certainly my next car
Hi,

Just drove the VX MT City again today and Ecosport too. Though Ecosport is tough and well built with higher ground clearance it feels so nice to drive the City. You feel home while driving the city and awesome stability not that ecosport is bad but in ecosport you dont get that confidence while getting into tight corners.

Im 6 2" in height and City feels more roomy more comfortable.

Also the visibility in the Honda City is much more better.

In a Dilemma again hope to book one next week.

These are all known facts, in fact Honds City didnt feel well built or better to drive than even a VW Vento or Skods Rapid, the only advantage I see with City is that its seats that are large and comfortable and back seat legroom, on all other counts City is an average car, I feel the overpopularity if 2nd Gen City is what makes it sell so much rather than true substance,
In my view Rapid,Vento, new Verna all are better sedans than Honda City.

One cannot compare Ecosport with City, both are completely different vehicles and if ground clearance is not that someone would want always sedan make better choices whether be it comfort, space,or even ride quality,

I suggest @Irfan C to take a look at Skoda Rapid and VW Vento TSi DSg as well, any day far better than Honda City in terms of power, handling, ride and even mileage, only issue is VW or Skoda after sales and service are so and so in certain cities. So always have good relation with ASS people of these brands

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Had 2 VW Polos in the house had a night mare with After sales sold them both off.

Even when selling these cars you dont get a buyer that easily. Also these cars are now showing their age so not interested in considering them.

Now the confusion is Ecosport with good height, Clarence built and TDCI or super smooth IVTEC with awsome space and amazing stability.

Not true at all
While VW diesels are better, IVTEC is the better petrol, TSI doesnt come close
DSG is a terrible transmission, mileage and shifting speed doesnt matter when it fails miserable every few months
Steering feedback in City and Ecosport is miles ahead of VW/Skoda
Suspension of VW/Skoda is nowhere near City overall, front is a bit better in Vento though
Seats of VW/Skoda is a bench , nothing like City and Ecosport

Dynamics of City is good enough, 3rd gen was best though

My SIL owned Polo earlier
My 10 year old CRV was cheaper to maintain than her Polo

But when I sampled the City iVTEC and the Vento TSi there was a world of difference, post 2000 rpm the Vento TSi kills the City for FUN, and had better suspension tuning and better sound insulation as well,
Since @irfan C has already had bad experience with VW, I would never suggest it , my brother has a VENTO TDi Highline and almost all who has City ahs ageed to my point that they took City only because of past reputation of reliability and space inside which some was in need of, for all other the Vento is a far superior car even today.

Between Ecosport and City, if GC is not a MUST, go with City, VX, the Ecosport MT is far better value for money though as its nearly 1 lakh cheaper to buy, since @irfan C is tall ,I think @irdan C also take a look at Honda WRV

Thats because IVTEC has 2 cam profiles unlike TSI
TSI keeps shifting in the struggle to find the right gear on our roads
suspension on VW is not as comfortable as City at all
Sound insulation? No chance, IVTEC NVH levels are miles ahead of the competition

Vento being a superior car is a myth , my SIL owned Polo, I own 3rd gen City, pretty much have an idea given both cars were in my household

I agree with your other points about-

This makes alot of sense
WRV 1.2 IVTEC is not as good as Ecosport or City IVTEC
IDTEC is a mixed bag, some like it, some dont
Its clutch etc is very smooth though and no reliability concerns either as such

Tough call imho

I bought a 2014 Hyundai Verna Fuidic Crdi SX (O) AT. My main requirement was an AT and I got this car for a good deal and very well maintained from a known source.
Oh good call !! Fantastic engine and a torque converter AT !! 4 Speed but good one nevertheless, much reliable and maintenance free compared to DSG/DCT/AMT and no rubber band effect of CVT
Happy motoring !! [glasses][:D]

Guys, what’s your view on Ecosport Titanium + AT vs Creta Petrol AT (SX+ ?) is the 2.5 Lakhs premium on Creta justified?
Its justified as long as one needs more space inside and better exterior appeal,
Its not justified on how it drives rides and handles though and the gearbox is just fine, the Fords 6 speed is much better.
Infotainment and music system too of Ford is better than Creta SX O ATs system,

If space is a criteria with Ground clearance and AT then Creta is better than Ecosport,

Hi,

Yes completely agree most probably should close in on the Ecosport Titanium plus TDCI.

WRV is a good car but dont like the looks. Brother has a Brezza so wont consider another Brezza in the house.

I found the second row of Creta to be more roomy but short on under thigh support. I found Ecosport to be way better on this aspect. What is your view on this?
Plus loved the leather seats vs the fabric ones on Creta. Bootspace also seems to be comparable (400 on Creta vs 350 on Ecosport)

I too agree with this
The back seat cushions on Ecosport ie the leather seats are way more comfortable than the ones in Creta also under thigh support I found Ecosport to be just slightly better, not a big margin
The back seat legroom though is more and is significant specially when the driver is above 5.5 feet the Ecosport struggles to manage one with same height on drivers back seats, not at all an issue in Creta
Also Creta facelift will be launched by mid 2018 and that one will get a new 6 speed TC AT and diesel and petrol options, so if that comes the Ecopsorts AT advantage will be more at stake, specially after the new price hike

Ecosport Titanium+ TDCi is still a good choice
