Re: Ford EcoSport Facelift 2017 Exclusive Spyshots

In the Trend+ AT, Is there a toggle switch to change gears manually next to the lever like in the previous version?
I believe there is an actuator switch on the right side of gear lever that acts as a toggle switch to switch between lower ratios of 6F15 gearbox, its not as intuitive as the paddle shifters but it is there if there is a need for manual control
Was the issue with AMT actuator system or The GB itself? as both are coupled to make it a whole package
I also know a person with a 15k kms run Renault Kwid facing issue with the AMT, the car wont start unless the driver pushes the Brake pedals so hard like one wants to kill someone, its frustrating specially when ladies have to take the car,
I am not at all convinced with AMT, maybe its more reliable than DSG but the drive feel etc at least from my experience felt sub par compared to even some CVTs
The thing is a lot of AMT buyers specially are Maruti buyers who dont appear in forums threads etc because they never care for other brands in their books CAR=MARUTI, so they buy them and keep on repairing and running them,
I have already seen more than 5 cases of AMT clutch replacements and shuddering and roll back and starting issues within 50,000 kms, so at least for me AMT is not reliable on top of its terrible driving nature specially in 1,2,3 gears.

Hi does anyone know about alloy wheels availability for trend plus variant as it has same set of tyres as titanium has....!
I am sure they should be available in the market without any difficulty. The PCD is 108 if I am not wrong.

In the Trend+ AT, Is there a toggle switch to change gears manually next to the lever like in the previous version?
There is a button with a '+' sign on it on the lever.

Guys just did a back to back test drive of Ecosport Petrol Titanium+ AT and Creta SX+ Petrol AT

1. Looks - both look good in their own respects. No wonder they are quite popular. Side length is what distinguishes between the two. Thank god for the spare wheel! Ecosport still manages to look funnier than Creta takes a more understated approach comparatively.

2. Steering - hands down Ecosport. The feel at the centre was ay better than Creta’s center. Overall feedback is very different though Creta’s steering wasn’t lifeless like my i20 2011 Petrol. I guess the diesel will have a better steering feedback. The leather wrap gave it a premium feel in the Ecosport while Creta didn’t seem to have one (need to check brochure if SX+ has leather wrapped steering wheel)

3. Power delivery - Ecosport has very good power delivery at bottom end and mid range. It was corroborated by another customer who joined me for the test drive. It felt quite fast and kept up with the traffic. S mode definitely makes a lot of difference and so do the paddle shifters. But in the city, you’ll not need the S mode at all. S mode keeps it plenty powerful. Creta was comparatively slower to start off but has decent power on tap. Didn’t really feel lacking but is teeny bit slower to respond. Both automatic gearboxes are super smooth and gear changes are hardly felt that too only on lower gears. Both have very good seating position though Creta’s longer and flatter bonnet enhances the feel of a larger SUV though in reality both are almost same. I used the max seat height adjust on both cars.

4. Rear seat - Rear seat base is definitely longer and more comfortable in the Ecosport. Creta’s under thigh support was lacking. Three abreast is slightly better in Creta. Leg room was adequate in both cars with Creta having it slightly better. Though I felt that the longer base of Ecosport definitely has an advantage. Leather seats of Ecosport are awesome.

5. Driver‘s seat - Ecosport has better bolstering and comfort. It is my pick over Creta’s drivers seat.

6. Suspension and rear seat comfort - While I was driving, the other customer sat at the back and when he was driving I chose the back seat. This gave us a fair idea. Plus we went over non-tarmac road to get a feel. Suspension works very quietly so that’s a plus. However, the overall comfort is a little stiff. Add to that those 17 inch wheels and you better be careful not to toss back seat passengers around !

7. Features - both cars look equally premium with one opting for lighter shades and the other a full black interior. Titanium+ has more features than SX+ but need to compare the essentials from the brochures. Safety is a big plus for Ecosport as Creta only has two airbags. The sales advisor of Creta wasn’t able to tell me whether it has HLA. Need to check brochure for that too. However, comfort wise, I think both cars have essentials covered. I saw the TPMS and the rear camera in action. The guiding lines of the camera are not very bright and the other customer did get confused with them. The ambient lighting is quite dim and not bright in your face kind. It’s sufficient enough to set the mood though. I like this elegant approach.

8. Boot space - Hands down Creta. I think most of the length difference between the two has gone to Creta’s hood and boot space.

9. Mileage - after the test drive of Ecosport, I toggled the mode to avg. FE and it showed 11.5! This car covered 128 km until then and assuming how people push test drive cars, this is a good figure. Forgot to check this on Creta.

10. Prices - in Hyderabad, Trend+ AT is 11.09 Lakhs onroad, Titanium+ AT is 13.34 Lakhs onroad. Creta SX+ Petrol AT is 15.70 Lakhs onroad and diesel S+ AT is 16.50 Lakhs onroad. The confusion someone might have is whether to put 2.4 Lakhs on Creta SX+ AT over Ecosport Titanium+ AT. Trend+ AT is the most value for money and someone considering this see a huge difference to upgrade to the Creta. Trend+ AT has cars like Baleno CVT alpha, Jazz V CVT and dzire ZXI+ AMT in its sight. And it’s really a no brainer putting 1.5 Lakhs (on avg) over any of these cars. However, haven’t seen the Trend+ AT in flesh so cannot comment.

Older model was still available at the dealer and he said some people are still buying it due to good discounts. Didn’t ask him quantum of discounts as I am not interested in the older model. They looked like diesel versions anyway.

Couple of other points -
1. Three cylinder Dragon was hardly audible inside. No vibrations felt during driving. Many won’t realize how many cylinders the car has.
2. The dealer already has 40 bookings with 25 for automatics, almost all for Titanium+.
3. Intended to test drive Verna but after sitting in the Ecosport and it’s high seating, lesser inclined now. However, will still take a test drive. By the way, Verna EX AT Petrol was cheaper at 12.7 Lakhs than Titanium+ AT and EX diesel AT slightly costlier at 14 Lakhs. So unless someone wants an SUVish car, Verna is a definite contender. It looks awesome. Love the rear of the car. Here again, there is no taking away the length difference between the two cars.

Was the issue with AMT actuator system or The GB itself? as both are coupled to make it a whole package
They replaced the entire clutch assembly.

I believe there is an actuator switch on the right side of gear lever that acts as a toggle switch to switch between lower ratios of 6F15 gearbox, its not as intuitive as the paddle shifters but it is there if there is a need for manual control

I also know a person with a 15k kms run Renault Kwid facing issue with the AMT, the car wont start unless the driver pushes the Brake pedals so hard like one wants to kill someone, its frustrating specially when ladies have to take the car,

If the toggle switch works atleast on inclines then it serves the purpose. D mode seems quite capable to handle rest for a calm driver.
While I agree on the Maruti comment, I myself have used Hyundai and even Ecosport for six months. Had to sell ES as it was manual and I developed a slip disc problem. However, my point is that in the price point Celerio operates, it is still the best option. Grand i10 is costlier. Mileage of Celerio is good. I get 15 in city and 20 with city and highway combination. So it served my purpose. At 6 Lakhs, I am ok to compromise on build quality, not at 11 Lakhs and above. Hence, not inclined to wait for Brezza AMT. my uncle who has a car decor shop clearly states that quality of Ecosport (referring to previous version) in everything right from doors, seat cushioning etc are way better than Brezza.
On AMT, the only saving grace is that full replacement of the set costs less than 1000 INR if not covered under warranty.

There is a button with a '+' sign on it on the lever.
Thanks!

Checked out the new Ecosport face lift today at Harry Ford Trivandrum.
The car is definitely a looker. Looks much better in flesh than in pictures
The bonnet has a lowered down design and feels more pointed,
The projectors are yellow lights
The car feels solidly built like previous gen Ecosports
The new Blue looks fantastic specially when light falls on it. The Canyon Ridge looks awkward in dark lighting but in sunlight it feels rich and appealing.
The tires on Titanium are Bridgestone Ecos, not great but better than MRFs.
The interior in all black and I loved this theme, it feels really sporty inside.
I miss the red stitching of current Gen Ecosports leather seats, still feels good with leather upholstery.
The seat cushioning is superb. Its slightly more soft than current Ecosport but yet when we sit inside it hugs really well and feels snug and comfortable, the seat width too is larger making it more comfortable for peoppe with larger torso.
The arm rest is not useful for someone who keeps driver seats pushed well forward.
The A,B,C pedals are also placed well and the gear lever too is same as previous gen Ecosport steering is tilt and telescopic and has a wide range of motion, in short finding ideal driving position is easy.
The car has ample space inside, I really dont understand how a lot iof people are claiming the Nexon and Brezza are much better in regard. Probably they have more space but Ecosport felt like it had ample usable space inside for a compact suv, the rear seats have lost the seat recline function that I liked a lot.
The rear seats will have ample legroom for anybody who is below 175 cms height,
The rear seats have excellent under thigh support probably the best among all compact suvs.
The car has seperate illumination led lights for front and rear passengers, a very nifty feature.
The car has manual door locks on front doors, this is good considering old Ecosport missed out on this feature.
The front seat arm rest dosent protrude much into rear seat legroom.
The rear seat arm rest is nicely done and feels way better than what competitors offer.
The front ssats base and back rest move while adjustment, no seperate base and back rest adjustment for front seats like in some other Ford models like my old Figo etc.
The Titanium+ has 4 speakers and a woofer on the back side of the Touch screen system,
The audio quality is just fine, Nexon has a better audio system period.
The sync 3 however is far better than any touch screen system I have ever used, its same as one in Endeavor,
The touch screen is easy reach from drivers driving position and although its floating its a big advantage as we need not take eyes off road to see whats being displayed.
The touch response and fluidity and functionality of this system is leaps and bounds above any car in the sub 20 lakhs segment of cars, I feel only the Skoda Octavia is a challenger to this touch screen system.
The new MID looks cheap compared to outgoing model
Lot of nifty storage places in around the cabin.
I feel the car is priced well. Its not over priced but could have priced Titanium+ AT a little less.
The attached prices are prices from Harry Ford Trivandrum.

My younger brother was in town and there was a discussion to replace his Figo for a compact SUV, as he is super happy with Ford (same with me, I'm a big fan of Ford), he wants to upgrade to a Ecosport. So we went out for some shopping and all, and I spotted the Ford showroom and thought of checking the car on our way back. Back we return, took a U-turn in the maddening traffic and reach Elite Ford, Mahadevpura ORR. I park my car next to the showroom entrance, they don't have a compound, just next to road with some place between road and showroom to park cars and suddenly some office guy, not sales nor security comes running, I thought he must be valet or someone to assist me with parking, but he tells me not to use showroom parking but park on the road instead. I tell him that I just need 10 mins and he approves. Enter the showroom it was 07:30 PM on a weekend, there I saw a blue Ecosport standing with 2 guys reviewing it. We somehow made ourselves comfortable for reviewing the car.

While I loved the 1st gen Ecosport, this one has got me with mixed feelings (maybe due to the side profile).

  • Loved the way the front looks, not the side look- Wish the length was more
  • Lovely interiors
  • Rear seat back looks to be a bit inclined
  • New blue colour looks awesome
  • Alloy looks great
  • Did not like the floating screen –side view
  • Did not like the meter console- looks bland
  • Looks much better than Breeza, inside out
  • Headlamp throw is yellowish not white

Wanted to check with the SA about the titanium S launch but could not find a single staff in the showroom, while leaving the showroom I see a SA talking to the valet/office guy just outside the showroom next to my car. He did not bother to ask me anything or to my wife who was sitting in the car waiting for us. This is my second visit to the showroom, Elite Ford, 1st was in 2014 when I was planning to buy a car and very much wanted the Ecosport. I wanted the Ecoboost one, but the SA was hell bent on selling me a Fiesta. Booked an Elite i20 and a proud owner now.

4. Titanium+ has 4 speakers, 2 tweeters and a woofer. Behind the floating screen what you see is a woofer. Sound quality is good (played Radio) and I don't think there is a need for upgrade. One of the person who was checking the car said it was awesome but I thought it was fine and not extraordinary
Woofer? Are you sure that it is a woofer because in brochure it is no where mentioned that it has an woofer. 4 radio speaker 2 front tweeters is only being mentioned.

Yes there is a tweeter behind the sync 3 touch screen system, I however will add that the quality is just average, the music system is Kenwood based system,
I think with better speakers and a sub woofer experience inside Ecosport will be awesome with the well insulated cabin.

One question on ES Reverse Parking Camera. Does it come with steering adaptive mode or static one. My Elantra has that feature which is actually very useful. Where as City has parking camera but not steering adaptive and not very useful other than getting view behind.

Yes, it comes with steering adaptive lines visible on screen while taking reverse

You get dual view. The main screen has three lines (two corner and one center) and they move along with the steering movement. The second view on the same screen is car and progressive steps from its rear. These progressive steps are linked to parking sensors. The closer the car comes to a hurdle, the closer steps light up as a warning. For example, if an object is 1 meter away, let’s say the fourth step from boot lights up. When the distance reduces to 0.5 meter, the 2nd step from the boot lights up.
Camera quality is excellent during the day. Haven’t checked the night time view.

Camera quality during night is strictly average, not as good as ones in Octavia and Tuscon etc, but again I have to bring those high end vehicles to compare the quality which means, its the best in its class
