Re: Fiat Grande Punto 90HP - 19184 km update

Just returned after 1618km journey in 2weeks.

no need to mention how splendid the experience was in punto.

now she needs a desperate wash.
tons and tons of dust have accumulated on her, so I do not dare to take a snap of her before that and the brake dust on wheels phew..but she looks meaner in dust..wow!!

the travel was inside kerala means no highways.. average speed remained 25kmph with diesal burnt for 18.9kmpl with AC ..

let the pics speak..

Well ..as usual she brings a smile on my face as well as in heart.

so I let her have what she deserves since long time..!!

After second service fuel efficiency has got much better.

normal economy driving with AC -20kmpl

high revving/ripping with ac- 17kmpl

extremely careful FE driving w/o AC- 27kmpl for 22 litres of diesal (Rs1000/-)
Jayadev refrain yourself from getting such Automatic washers, as they can damage the paint and cause swirl marks.

Never ever let the water to be sprayed on engine bay, as it may damage the electricals.

I usually get it done at Authorised dealers.

Ohh..do they?

I was suspicious though but it could do the same within minutes where I had to spend hours myself.
anyway thanx for advice.

Me too pointed that to them for which they did the spraying at the bottom of the engine and mechanicaloly areas followed by highpressure air blower.
I think that was much precautionary to damage any electricals.
I usually get it done at Authorised dealers.
What does an autherised dealer means here? you mean tat-fiat service centre..well they will definitly chip off remaining paint on my car.

1 year and 3 months.19k+ kms.

I got a brilliant MJD with vgt engine, brilliant chassis, ride handling, and nothing done other than clinging to authorized service center and pretending to be something what I am not.

shame on myself to say "I am a Petrol head."[frustration]

I couldn't do anything more.

Removed everything which could be removed ,seats, spare wheel, amps, head unit ,subwoofer, tools, glove box, door plastics ..as of now. almost 60+kg shredded.

Filled tire to 34psi

Did a test drive. :-) this is it- Punto90

most Important observation.

1. she feels suffocated from very early revs to peak.-Needs air intake modification.

What my serious thought is the Air intake was designed for 75 bhp or so, additional 15 horses came out suffocated and strangled . a minor mod seems to be mandatory to make it free revving.

2.She needs a remap- IMO AIR would demand a remap to cope up with modifications I cannot compromise on FE.

3. Gear ratios seems perfectly alright.

0-100 done in 12.8 secs (checked in mobile stopwatch -speedo @104kmph considering error).

4. I wont speak about braking and handling ..Phew!!

^^^ BUT why you did all this?
Well I am on vacations here in kerala getting bored.
It all started when I was cleaning the interiors . the armrest broke due to my carelessness . to fix the armrest I had to remove the front seat .so came idea why not remove all and just see how it works. and it was so easy to clean .[:)]

Excellent pictures jayadev.Makes me wonder whether Bossa Nova White is the best color(earlier its was electric blue in this place).

I think it's better you write a short travelogue as it would benefit others like me.
BTW,can you tell whether the punto can accommodate 3 adults comfortably for atleast 114km in the back seat,no iam not asking the vista kind of space.

Sure. It can easily. I have traveled more than 300 km with 3 and half people in rear seat.

Thanks Akash, the paint came off when the silly water wash guy gave a full force wash to mudflaps..

Punto can accommodate 3 adults at rear but not so comfortable. the rear is little bit short of space as much as hatchback is supposed to be .

Sure. It can easily. I have traveled more than 300 km with 3 and half people in rear seat.
Well ,the comfort of seating and space is little bit less as Punto is strictly a two seater i.s two adults in front and Kids at rear .a perfect Family car or a typical European hatchback.
