Yes. Quite much like a Fiesta Hatchback on steroids.
The car was parked on a platform which media wasn’t allowed to access. Anyways it’s definitely not in comparison with Honda CR-V. Moreover, I also believe that Renault Duster has a better road presence than the Ford Ecosport.
Four meters without spare wheel. It would still avail the excise benefit, as the spare wheel doesn’t counts.
That’s true. Fusion was one of its kind hatchback in India at that time. Over the period, Ford has become more serious about their market strategies in India. Especially they are attempting to bring down the ‘expensive’ image of Ford ownership (Through child parts etc.). Since Ecosport is also likely to share some components with New Fiesta, I’m hopeful for a competitive price tag and considering the length of Ecosport is kept under 4 meters intentionally, I’m sure there must be a reason behind that.

EcoSport will be priced competitively; Don’t draw connections with the Brazilian model’ prices Boneham told Indian Autos Blog that Ford will “price the EcoSport competitively,” but we got a sense while touring the engine plant that the 1L Ecoboost petrol engine will not be locally manufactured, at least in the initial stages, which signifies that localization will be scaled up over time. He’s aware of the the Brazilian model’s prices (revealed last week), stressing that it has no bearing on the Indian prices due to the varying tax structures. The EcoSport is a sub-4 meter SUV that will qualify as a small car in India.
Boneham refused to divulge any information on the type of diesel engine under the EcoSport’s bonnet. If it was the same 1.5-liter diesel (running a different calibration) used on the Fiesta, common sense screams out that he would have not have held that information back. Globally there are no new diesel engines to talk about for this product class or segment. Boneham said he would speak about the diesel engine during the product launch.
Ford India are not in segments that are growing and the EcoSport will give a launch pad to fix that. The excitement is obvious in the management’s interactions.

Spoke to my contact in Ford yesterday. He confirmed me about 3 things.
1) Pricing: Even the top-end diesel variant wont be priced more then 9.99 Lakh (exshowroom). Although some accessories may be given as optional to avoid high RTO taxes levied on vehicles above 10 lakh (as they did in Figo initially. They had given alloys and some other things as optional).
2) Launch and delivery will be from Jan 2013.
3) From Nov 2012 the models will be displayed in all the major Shopping Malls in Bangalore.
One thing he is not sure is about the tuning of diesel engine. Although he was sure that it will be same engine from new fiesta, it might be tuned differently to generate more torque at lower RPM to make it feel SUV like.

^^ That's a great news, i have already booked Swift ZDI and awaiting for the delivery, may be with current situation in MSIL the delivery may extend to Nov-12. I may go for Eco-Sports if the prices are reveled by Nov 12.

I am also feeling this. I guess the 4*4 option will depend on the market response and of course the feedback from customers.
Just hope it gets the excise benefits since, thats the only way we can expect a competitive pricing by Ford.

It has been confirmed by ford that ecosport is a sub 4 meter vehicle and the have designed it in keeping the tax benefit in mind ,and infact in all interviews the head honchos are talking about vfm concerning ecosport . I have a feeling ( and they go wrong most of the times ) that model to model they will price the ecosport less then duster for a onslaught .
bhavana ford in new Mumbai are even taking pre bookingswith 25,000 with a promise that when launched if you don't like the ecosport orbthenpricing full money can be refunded , though itsa dealer trick and nothing from ford .
I dont think they will take so much time the only time they are taking is because of localization and talks with vendors providing stuff for ecosport and quality control and of course the regular kind of testing specially of the ecoboost engine so they can brag about the mileage figures .

If possible can you pls ask your source about the height and width of ecosport ?
The reason iam asking is because last month in new Zealand I sat in then2013 ford kuga which was simply mind blowing inside butbit was quite low slung so was just curious to know the height of the ecosport too.

Apart from creating interest, ford would want to stop the mad rush for Duster by making the customers to hang on till ecosports actually arrives. This is very important because once the customers see lot of Dusters on road, it clearly gets the early mover advantage and word of mouth marketing advantage (which is the very powerful means in India).
Regarding the width and height, I can check with him when I meet him next time. Meanwhile it is already released in Brazil (online booking or somehow). You can check in Ford Brazil website also. And Ford Kuga is a segment higher to ecosports.
Be sure that no 4x4 will be available in ecosports, atleast intially.

I guess Ford has tweaked with the bumper's to make it fall under 4meter's and both the engines meet the excise duty criteria so it will surely get the benefit's but the big question is are they going to pass it on to the end customer's?

Ford has done nothing with the bumper the car is designed to be around 4200 extra wheel at the back included so without the wheel it is 4 or say 3990 .
Benchmark length will be i20, maruti dezire and indigo cs .
