Ford has done nothing with the bumper the car is designed to be around 4200 extra wheel at the back included so without the wheel it is 4 or say 3990 .

From what I know, Ecosport (Concept) was more than four meters in length. Ford has sliced those bumpers by each MM to accommodate it under four meter length.

The latest news regarding Ford Ecosport in India is that Ford India is planning for localising 80% of its parts. There we can see the chances of a aggressive pricing as in the case of Figo and Classic.
The only thing Ford is going to miss is the early movers advantage. Renault with its handsome Duster and Mahindra with its boxy Xylo mini would get that advantage.
Ford India must speed up the launch of Ecosport.

We have been consistently covering all the developments of the Ford EcoSport not just in India but internationally as well. However some startling information with a amazing piece of evidence has just graced our mailbox.





IAB’s avid reader Deepak Sharma has managed to expose a big secret the Ford EcoSport has been hiding for long.

Deepak sends us an image of the interiors of the Ford EcoSport’s Indian version (RHD). Sure, the interiors of the Indian model were never exposed before but that’s not the big news. The spy shot is testimony to the fact that Ford has already started work on the automatic variant of the Ford EcoSport.

One can also notice the SYNC badge near the shifter, Ford’s in-vehicle communication and entertainment system, that gives drivers directions, ability to make voice-activated phone calls, listen to text messages, etc. This technology is on its way to India through the EcoSport.



Considering Ford has already spent huge amount of moolah on making the Indian masses aware of its new double clutch gearbox, we have a strong feeling that the EcoSport will also be blessed with the Fiesta’s PowerShift transmission.

The PowerShift gearbox is one of the cheapest double clutch gearbox in the world. Thanks to the two-clutch system, and the extra cog, the PowerShift technology provides responsive performance coupled with class leading fuel economy. Along with these benefits, PowerShift is sealed for life and will need no servicing or oil changing for a period of 10 years/ 2,40,000kms. It is an ideal automatic gearbox for Indian conditions.


Apart from the position of the steering wheel, all the other details of the interiors of the EcoSport’s Indian model are identical to the one in Brazil. We have comprehensively covered the interiors of the EcoSport over here.

The automatic gearbox option would provide some leverage to the Ford EcoSport over arch rival Renault Duster. Renault India has no plans to launch the Duster in automatic for now.


We hope Ford India would provide us the PowerShift gearbox in both petrol and diesel variants of the EcoSport, unlike the Fiesta which only gets in petrol. This is not an easy ask, as Ford cannot develop technologies for one country. There is a lack of demand for diesel AT variants outside India, and hence Ford may think twice before starting this project

Could you please ask your contact whether ford has any plans either initially or at a later stage to launch the diesel ecosport with a 4x4.It would really help people like me waiting to upgrade to a comfortable 4wd.

Nah, there won't be 4x4. Buddy, a 4x4 with 1L engine will be too much to ask for. It will be like autorickshaw pulling a tempo.
And even if top end diesel is for 9.9L ex-shrm, i.e. around 11-11.2L on-road, I doubt how many would buy a 11+L sub-4m UV-like hatch.
Best to buy Storme then as it will also be there out for sale, before ecosport launch.

Gokul,

When you say 4x4, that too for farm visits, it has to be rugged one. Ecosport is more focussed on city driving & higher FE. Ecosport is actually a Wagon-R with high GC & spare tyre on boot. Ofcourse don't take it word wise but for proper 4x4, best go for Storme. And if you not comfy with tata, you can check out scorp.

Avoid Gypsy, not worth & very crude....1857 design.
Thar is good but will seat only 4. If that's OK, buy Thar else to keep costs low, you can check out Bolero/Sumo Gold also.

+100 in my view if atall one buys a duster the base model is a good bet anything above the base model is over priced by atleast 60-70,000.
Ecosport might get the excise benefit but since ford is harping and making a lot of noise about the engine and features iam eager to see if they pass the benefit to coustomers or continue there tradition of pricing the ecosport like the new fiesta .
If it is priced reasonable I will consider it if not next option strome if tata also comes with silly pricing then I will just buy sx4 cng period.
