Hardly used high-beam as i drive mostly inside the city, had used it only once on the way to the airport. Bangalore has a large number of cabs and sumos always withe their high beam on making it quite a pain inside the city.

I own a Santro GL. The lower beams are really not that ok to drive on highway atleast not for me. So on highway I have to drive with High beam ON. I do make sure when there is any vechicle coming in opposite direction I switch to lower beam.

I never drive on high beam in the city. If I am driving on a highway, I used high beam for enhanced visibility. During winter, it becomes especially important to drive on High Beam (more so to cut through the fog) so that I can see the road clearly.

But I agree, people driving on high beam for no reason at all can adversely affect the vision and concentration leading to accidents.

Let's make Indian roads safer to drive on. . .guys avoid using high beam unless absolutely necessary!

I have never used high beams inside the city & i find it very offensive & a friend says i am a back seat driver cos i keep telling them to keep the car in low beam,
only time i use high beam is when i am in a mall basement or apartment basement etc so that people are aware of the car coming around a curve(So i dont need to honk creating an echo)
Highway I use high beam as needed dimming when a car or bike passes from the other side

In fog you are actually worsening the situation, by using highbeams.

Higbeams in fog means less visibility.

So use only normal low beam & fog lamps if equipped.

+1, and the low beam would help the driver have a better view of road. Further more, it would also be convenient to the oncoming drivers who are already blinded with the fog.

I used to drive in low beam in city, but if on coming vehicle use the high beam then I shift to high beam just to teach him the lesson. Again I shift to low beam. I use high beam on the one way highways where normally visibility is low. My head lamps are 90/100 W Philips Rally bulbs .

it depends upon situation where we use high beam or low beam. using high beams in city isn't neccesary and lowbeams on a highway isn't useful...

I beg to differ on the second part. When there's a vehicle coming in the opposite direction, we should switch to low beams, so that the oncoming driver isn't blinded, and doesn't pose a hazard for us.

However, on highways with dividers, such as the GQ roads, we can drive on high beams. But, we shouldn't drive with high beams while tailing a vehicle (at safe distances). The glare from the ORVMs and IRVM would definitely affect the vision of the driver in front, and result in him/her slowing down - which is not something we would be happy about.

The poll actually is incomplete. There should be options like, High Beam always, Low Beam always, High beam only when required, etc. I for one, drive with High Beams when I really need to use them.

Hahaha..this is what differentiates women drivers from we people(no offence to anyone)[lol].
Now let me explain it:-
Why the fog lamps are placed on the bumper? The reason is simple, they must be down, why?Because its just one-two feet above the road or any surface the fog density is nearly negligible.
I myself have checked this, one day I laid down on the side of the road near my home and found that just a foot above the road you can get quite good visibility. So in case your headlights are on the low beam then they will pass through that sparse fog and will help you see the road, while if you drive at high beam then the light simply strikes the fog in front of the car and reflects back and hence you can't see anything,result-zero visibility.
One day I have driven from Ambala to Meerut in dense fog in night and it was the low beam only which helped me see the road.

It will be a big issue if you drive with high beam at night. As it can cause sever accidents. I always take care of this and drive with low beam at night.
