Also biking isn't big here its more of a fun item than transport. Many people (idiots) cut bikers of and then say I was looking for cars didn't see anything so I went. It sort of a mind set no cars/bus/truck coming my way, lets say when turning at an intersection so they go but never looked out for a bike.
Thanks why bikers must ride with their headlight on even in the day time to grab idiot motorist attention!

On Highways, i use HighBeam , but don't have to dip if it's a 4 lane highway with a good median ( like Bangalore-chennai highway ). Otherwise have to dip , but the problem is not only with cars who don't dip but also with buses whom i think don't care about other road users. Trucks are far better but if you notice carefully , trucks from north are more organised esp. trucks with PB or HR regn. they drive in a very orderly manner follow all these procedures while driving.

Yes i agree with you here on both the points. Truck drivers from north are far better , after they overtake they immediately move towards the left lane and also they slow down and don't overtake if you honk or flash your light. Whereas truck or bus drivers down south drive always on the right most lane and overtake at will irrespective of your position and speed!

I usually use low beam, but when the opposite driver is using the high beam no other option as soon As I switch it to high, they switch to low beam(I think this is due to my 100\90 head lamps)

I always see that truck drivers do it always and that doesn't mean other are not doing it. It may be a highway or city, most truck drivers make others the irritant. This clearly states that they lack knowledge in driving.

In city traffic vehicles doesn't move fast, we can atleast manage to slow down if the high beam blazes our eyes. But in highways its most dangerous when trucks crosses our vehicles.[frustration]

Friends even i prefer low beam in night but what if the road is having street light at some areas and some without the street lights.. u cant drive safely if u don't have high beams on areas without street lights and also highways not having street lights so thy also require high beams for a safe visible distance..

I find it safer to use high beam on the bike as its only a single lamp and if it does shine in peoples eyes they will see us. While driving the car I don't use HB.
Even two wheelers' high beams create problem..

I use high beam only on the highway. For city driving I never use it but here in Pune there are many dumb drivers who use their high beams all the time blinding people. Even most bike riders here use high beams which too can be blinding sometimes.

In city 90% driving is on low beam, which I feel is more than sufficient, except while flashing to overtaking or in steep curves. In highways it is better to be on high beam if the opposite side lane is empty, but I shift to low beam immediately seeing any opposite traffic. The benefits include longer range of vision, which is good while high speed cruising. In foggy & cloudy condition I would advice never to drive on high beams as this will aggregate the visibility. Fog lamps are the best, & needless to say about the speed of the vehicle.

Even in non-illuminated streets inside the city why would you need high beam? Your speed will be hardly in the range of 40-50kmph and i feel low beams are sufficient enough for those speeds. I NEVER use high beam inside city unless i see a moron who doesn't bother to lower his beam coming in the opposite direction even after flashing.

And bikes too cause lot of discomfort if they come in high beam , adjustable though but still it irritates!

Once i took a left turn at a crossing and a few metres away a cow was standing in the middle of the dark road but i couldn't c it due to low beams and i saw the cow only when it was very near to my car n i had to brake suddenly.Thank god the cow didn't get hurt and also no vehicle was behind my car otherwise my car would have got damages from rare.Since then i switch to high beams even for a few seconds if there is any small or long dark stretch on a road.

Oh okay but personally i never felt the need of driving with high beam inside city anywhere because the speeds are going to be less giving ample reaction time to react even if something/someone suddenly comes in front of the road.

the answer ought to be yes & no!!!

City: Low beam, except after 0130 am, when there are rare vehicles and you can drive beyond 60 kmph;

Highway: High beam, except when there is oncoming traffic on two lane roads without divider (even with divider when divider height is low OR there is no plantation)

I drive with low beam most of the time, except when there is no oncoming vehicle and i'm not following another vehicle. Ironically, I've been criticised by my peers for not using high beams as much as I'm supposed to use.

If I were to given a chance, I would install some kind of artillery to make holes in those high beam headlights on the oncoming cars. I just hate all those people who never understand as to when use High beam and when to use dipper. I know you can put up anti-glare films but so many times I end up driving cars which dont have them and then it becomes a pain. (sorry for being emo!)

But just to extend, this is not the only lack in driving sense we display. How many times you would have seen people parking their vehicles in the middle of the road, taking a sudden left from the right most lane etc.

For academics - I drive in low beam in the city and on divided highways I use high beam only when required.

I don't use high beams ,in most of the occasions ,i felt that low beams is more than sufficient.I use high beams only to request oncoming vehicles to dim their lights.
