As long as I don't follow anyone close or no vehicles in opposite direction I use high beam. Else I always use low beam, though the vehicle in opposite direction blind me with his fancy high beam.
Some part of our Indian Highways have bushes in the divider, in that case, if there is no vehicle in front of me, I use high beam.

I always use low beam in city and highways.
I drive with low beam in highway and when there is no vehicle in the opposite and the road has poor visiblity i switch to high beam
But in high way or in city when some one coming in my front of me didnt change his light then i would switch on high beam and even fogs with all 6 bulbs glowing in fiesta to teach him a lesson.

Again a bad idea, 6 headlights[surprise].
You are not only causing trouble to him, as well as trouble to yourselves.
In such case warn the facing vehicle by blinking the light.
And concentrate to the road on your left, avoid seeing light beam from the vehicle.
When I drive the vehicle in the night, all the members in car watch the glare from the oncoming vehicle, as a driver concentrate more on the road.
And keep changing your vision by switching to low beam and high beam in tandem.
So that focus in on different parts of road ahead of you, so that anticipation is easy.

Never in CITY traffic. But in highways YES. I was thinking something about this yesterday and today I have landed here.

Why don't we print something in dash or scooter /bike head 'Do not use High Beam In city limits' How we have printed in Rear view mirror about approaching vehicle's distance [Do not able to recollect the exact phrase].

Or before delivering the vehicle dealer's should educate the buyers about usage of High Beams.

If not possible, why can SC put a rule about usage of High Beams in city. I believe usage of High beams is dangerous than usage of sun control film.

I see mostly the private cars, two wheeler are the ones who does not have any knowledge about high beams or I don't know.

6 bulbs mean
2- low beam
2-high beam
2-fog lamps
i can get you.
but what can be done for that stupid drivers?
even my own relations wont change from high beam to low beam if i do everyone see me as fool. One of them commented me that frequent change from low beam to high beam by flashing and changing can cause the bulb to gone out[lol]

I use low beams. They are enough to light up the roads, I have HIDs. But, sometimes, when oncoming driver (mostly Tata Ace drivers) don't switch to low beam, I use high beam, let them suffer![;)]
On highways, I use high beam, whether there is oncoming traffic at the other side of the divider or not, as I drive at 90kph+ on highways and thus low beam prove to be ineffective to see the road ahead.

Oh, friends I am different here, I do admit whether it is correct or wrong

I always drive with high beam either in city or highway, now the reasons

1. I am more comfortable driving with high beam for long visibility to avoid sudden surprises

2. The problem is nobody drives with low beam these days either in city or highway, then what is the use you being a low beam end up being a blind driver.

3. On highway I shift to low beam giving the indication to the other vehicle and if he doesn't respond then there is no other way for me to switch back to high beam to see the road properly on my left hand side at least[cry]

This looks very good if you go by the rules book, but in practical the things are very different in India, what to do we have to live with it

When you say about Tata ACE, I wanted to tell you an incident. During my M800 days, the same happen to me. A Tata ACE came before me with glaring head lights, which makes me not able to see exactly what is on the road ahead of me. It is a lane where two 4-wheelers can go. In the left I know there is a pitch since I use that road regularly. But do not know exact location/position. I could n't proceed further and I just got down from the vehicle and went for a fight with him. Then he shown his controls and his head lights are in low beam only.

Then Only i came to know that not all Tata ACE do that purpose fully. I think the angle in it or because of load in rear this problem occurs. From then I stoped scolding Tata Ace Drivers for high beams[:D]

I do the 3rd only. Not the first one.

And a tip told my dad to me was when ever there is situation like that, don't look at the light of the vehicle coming. look exactly on the road, you will have decent visibility of road. I follow this most of the time. If am not able to see what is ahead, I will just slow down or literally stop the car till the other one crosses me.

@Sethumurugan: Yes, maybe the angle of headlight beam aim would have been getting changed due to the heavy load they carry on thier back!
I feel the 'Tata' sells Ace with wrong alignment from factory itself. I have seen the issue in most Honda Aviators.

But what to do? Here, truck drivers are blind! Even when I care for them and switch to low beam, the Tata 407s continue with the high-beam! [cry]

Initially i had the habit of travel in low beams only in city and highways.

only in my last highway drive (after covering 4500km on my i10 odo) i used the high-beam in 4 lane highway.
in city driving it is a strict no.

High-beam driving is must in highways. it helps us to locate those useless/rear light less trucks from distance. if you are not on high beam and in such a speed in highway you will have so many surprises ahead of you in short distance. just my experience.

I do drive with low beams on highways also because in case of my safari i have 120/130 head light installed and also i adjust my headlight in a way with which i'm comfortable. i find the headlights are good enough even with low beam. on other hand my uncle always drives at high beam and he says even high beam is not enough.

another thing i do is, when the road ahead of unclear( with sufficient distance of vehicles in opposte lane) i switch of my headlights for a moment and get a quick view of road ahead and switch back on. this gives me a better idea of things ahead of me.

Two days ago i was near Dairy Circle in Bangalore & there was this Old Zen with after market Hid on the opposite,i know bad hids can be glary but this was aimed skywards blinding everyone & it was crawling traffic,he assumed i was checking out his Car & was looking smug until i expressed my dissatisfaction with his lights ,as we can expect from crude people he started a staring competition which he decided to retreat from .

If thats so Tata should do some sort of recall & fix the lights on them,i have noticed every Tata Ace on the road does this without fail, someone should file a case cos am sure its a defect,am guessing the guy who pushed for the tint ban should be the go to guy [;)]

When i use to have 70vlt Charcoal tint on front glass long ago high beams or anything dint bother me but drawback was when it rained & with opp high beam your good as blind which is pretty much the case in a clear glass anyways.

Hello Experts,

I'm new driver and recently experiencing night driving for first time.

During my night driving (learning) when I'm in Low Beam, I found Alto / Zen (no offence to any car owner) from opposite side running towards me with High Beam on, The moment I flash from a safe distance (if not work, sometime use High Beam to tell them lower their light), they immediately put it low and once I lower my light they immediately switch back to High Beam and it leave me completely Blind & Scary ---- and that too from 5 to 10 feet distance on a single lane road and in city limits.

How to handle this situation ? :help:

I found big car with powerful Head Lamp (multiple lamps) are well mannered but 8 out of 10 small car are doing this.

If you find anybody with high-beams in the opposite lane, just switch on high beams and drive, only switch to lower beams when they do.
