Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

+1, but the only problem is the availability of CNG in Bangalore.
Oh i see, then they have to bring the fuel either from Mangalore or Chennai, which increases the costs.
Or i think they will consider the Hybrid bus which is now being tested.(the one posted by you earlier)

If they come up with this vehicle, then what about the recently launched genio? Personally i like the Bolero Maxi truck than the genio.

Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

Daimler India today said it would roll out six products across various ranges, under its 'Bharat Benz' truck brand this year.

"The first product will be a 25 tonner rigid truck 2523, with 230HP. It will be followed by a 2523 construction vehicle -- a fully built tipper," Commercial Vehicle (DICV) Vice-President (Marketing, Sales and After Sales) V R V Sriprasad told reporters.

DICV, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Germany's Daimler AG, has a 400 acre manufacturing facility at Oragadam near here, built with an investment of Rs 4,400 crore.

The company has proposed to roll out 17 trucks across 9-31 tonnes both in light duty and heavy duty categories in the next 18 months.

"At the time of inauguration (of our new manufacturing facility),we have stated that we will have a market launch by third quarter of 2012.We are well on track (for that)," he said.

Elaborating on product portfolio, Sriprasad said a 31 tonner ( Gross Vehicle Weight) GVW with 230HP would be launched this year. "We are also thinking of launching a nine tonner and a 12 tonner (range of trucks)this year (by December)," he said.

He said all their entire range of trucks would be coming up in 18 months "as planned" and the first two years (after the plant inauguration) would be more on bringing products for the domestic market.

On the capacity of the Chennai plant, he said with a single shift operation, they would have a capacity of producing 36,000 units a year and it can be doubled by 2015, attaining "full capacity".

"If we do (sell) beyond that (about 72,000 units a year), we will be geared to produce 100,000 units by 2018-2020...," he said.

He said in the next two to three months, the plant is expected to produce 1,500 to 2,000 units.

When asked whether the company was witnessing the global market conditions, Sriprasad said even at the peak of the crisis in 2008, the truck market grew to 200,000 units.

"For the volume we are targeting in first year, these ups and downs (uncertain market conditions) are part and parcel of our industry. We see in the next few years it will reach to 500,000 units from the present 300,000 units...," he said.

Declining to reveal the price of the products, he said, "We have decided about it (price of the vehicle). It will be extremely competitive and it will be of a quality brand. It will be a great value for money...".

Sriprasad was at the manufacturing facility for receiving six trucks which taken across 22 cities on a 72 day tour across the country as part of their promotional event -- BharatBenz Power Yatra.

"It was a 8,400 km run across 22 major cities including the golden quadrilateral. We met 3000 drivers, mechanics and we have received lot of feedback on the product we showcased."

The Yatra was formally flagged off by Daimler Trucks - Head Andreas Renschler, Daimler India Commercial Vehicle Managing Director and CEO, Marc Llistosella, in the presence of Daimler AG, Board of Management, Chairman Dieter Zetsche on April 18 from Oragadam, he said.

Isuzu Motors plans Rs 1000 crore plant in India

Isuzu Motors Limited, is mulling an entry into India's fast-growing small commercial vehicle and multi-utility vehicle segment to take on Tata Motors Ace and Mahindra & Mahindra's utility vehicles. The $17.1-billion Japanese auto firm is planning a greenfield facility in India, which may entail an investment of over 1,000 crore.

ET learns, the India project team of Isuzu met state government officials of Andhra Pradesh earlier this month and are expected to meet officials from Tamil Nadu and Gujarat to explore plans for locating a new factory. The proposed facility is expected to have a capacity of 1,00,000 to 1,20,000 units and is likely to come up by 2014-15.

An email query sent to Isuzu Motor did not elicit a reply.

Currently, Indian truckmakers hold an unchallenged sway in the small truck segment, growing at 20% yearly.

Andhra Pradesh state government officials confirmed the development stating Isuzu officials showed interest in setting up a manufacturing facility in Nellore district of the state, which is very close to Chennai port in Tamil Nadu. "Isuzu have shown some interest for setting up one of their units here. They have huge range of products starting from cars to LCVs all the way to pick up trucks and heavy trucks. We don't yet know which specific model they are looking at manufacturing here," the principal secretary (Industries), State Government of Andhra Pradesh, K Pradeep Chandra, said. The company has already formed an Indian entity called Isuzu Motors India Private Limited, which is setting up an office in Chennai, in August.

To begin with, Isuzu will assemble and distribute before setting up full scale manufacturing operations. The immediate plan is to import completely-built units and knocked-down units of its lifestyle pick up truck DMAX and large SUVs like MU7 from Thailand by end of 2012.

Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

If you are waiting to travel in a bus which will offer you food and toilet facilities without having to get down at designated stops, then here it is. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is launching such services on Wednesday in select buses. Six multi-axle Volvo buses will have toilets and two of them will also have in-house pantry services.

The Airavat buses with toilet facilities will now be called Airavat Superia and those with both toilets and in-house pantry will be named Airavat Bliss. KSRTC had announced such an initiative on April 20 to make long-distance travelling a world-class experience, particularly for the elderly and those with children.

Officials told TOI that the toilets will be cleaned by maintenance staff of KSRTC and the food provided will be outsourced to a private vendor. "We will later outsource the entire pantry service to the vendor, depending on demand. Also, buses which ply for more than 10 hours, like the ones to Mumbai and Pune, will have a full-fledged in-house pantry service," said officials.

Of the six buses to have such facilities are those bound for Chennai and Tirupati. Also, two of the Airavat Bliss buses will have live television sets fixed behind the seats. They'll also be Wi-Fi enabled and can be tracked by Global Positioning System (GPS).

Toilet facility in buses were tried long back by the other KSRTC (Kerala) and failed miserably. Almost 20 years ago they got this idea and had to stop the services when toilet users were splashed back by the discharge in moving buses.

Now technology would have developed much and KSRTC will do a better job.

That's a great news but the thing is how long will these buses survive. Back in 2004 UP Roadways came up with AC buses. And after 5-6 years there were only buses, no AC left in them[;)]. So what i ma trying to say is that they should maintain the buses as well.

I wish them to sell engines to individuals.

KSRTC is the trend setter IMO. Good idea, thanks for sharing. This is very much needed for the buses which ply from Bangalore to Pune,Mumbai,Tirupati and pretty VFM.

The government doesn't care about the maintenance of the buses, we cannot blame them too because it costs a lot, but KSRTC provides good services in the volvos as they are serviced by the Manufacturer only, moreover the aircon unit is provided by Carrier, which is of good brand and durable too.

The buses would most probably be fitted with Vacuum based toilets which are also making their way into the trains as well. Wonder if they mentioned anywhere what kind of toilet is installed
