Are you sure they haven't launched any truck yet? I saw few Bharat-Benz trucks at an Octroi post in Pune. Did I miss a scoop? [;)]

Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

BharatBenz trucks from Daimler India Commercial Vehicle’s (DICV), which will be launched in India on September 9, are likely to be priced higher by 5 to 10 per cent than competition. The reports quoted DICV Vice-President (marketing & sales), V.R.V. Sriprasad as saying “The trucks will be competitively priced, but the features we will be offering would offer huge financial benefit to customers and hence price is expected to higher by 5-10 per cent initially.”
It was mentioned that the company has not yet unveiled prices of its commercial vehicles. He said the trucks would have better payback due to at least 10 per cent fuel efficiency over competition. The arm of German auto major Daimler, which has committed Rs 4,400 crore in the commercial vehicle business in India, will roll out 17 models in 18 months beginning with a 25-tonne model and at least 70 outlets across the country. “We have already pumped in two-thirds of the committed amount of Rs 4,400 crore so far in launching BharatBenz trucks in India,” Sriprasad said.

According to reports, DICV has decided to offer complete solutions to the truck owner from financing to offering complete cashless maintenance of the vehicle. Speaking about introducing the Bharat name, Sriprasad said survey feedbacks suggested that people did not want only good commercial vehicles, but also the ‘made by and for India’ tag. Sriprasad said BharatBenz would have a range 7-49 tonnes heavy and light duty trucks with the current market size being 3.2 lakh units per annum. “It is expected to grow to five lakh units by 2018,” he said. The BharatBenz Power Yatra, which will cover 22 cities as part of the launch campaign, will cover 8,000 km.

No wonder, people will buy these trucks, now a competition for AL and TATA in heavy haulage segment. But we shouldn't forget even AMW is emerging well.

Any hand out there to give us info on AMW's performance in Northern India?

High-capacity Volvo 7400XL city bus trials commence in Bangalore.

Volvo Buses has announced the commencement of trials for the Volvo 7400XL low-floor city bus in Bangalore. The Volvo 7400XL is India’s first multi-axle city bus, with steered axle. At 14.5 metres, it is aimed at supporting efficient mass bus-based transport systems to shift more people, with fewer buses, quicker and with less resource utilisation.

The minister for Home & Transport, government of Karnataka, R Ashoka flagged off the bus from the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation central office. Akash Passey, senior vice-president – Business Region International, Volvo Bus Corporation & Chairman of the Board, Volvo Buses in India and Manish Sahi, managing director, Volvo Buses in India, were present on the occasion along with ministers and other senior officials from the State Government as well as BMTC’s senior management.

Akash Passey said, “The Volvo 7400XL, which is part of our new range of buses, highlights our efforts to make public transport the preferred choice of mobility in a city. The response to the Volvo 8400 city bus in 13 cities across India has been very encouraging and the 7400XL will take the Volvo City Bus concept one step further.”

The 7400XL can carry over 100 people at a time and as a result significantly improve upon fuel, emissions and road space consumption. Furthermore, manoeuvrability in the city is tackled by the steered tag-axle which allows the bus to take on the tight roads and turns of a city.

On the safety front, the 7400XL is designed to offer enhanced safety to drivers and passengers. The bus body is a tubular structure built to meet anti-roll over standards. The safety bar has also been raised to an exceptional level with roll stabilisers, electronic braking system, EBS, powerful disc brakes and new PX suspension system. The low-entry at the front and in the middle enables easy entry and exit, even for passengers with impaired mobility.

The 7400XL is powered by the efficient Volvo 7-litre diesel engine with 290hp equipped with a turbocharger and intercooler.

I feel KSRTC is one of the best public companies in our country, I would even go as far as comparing it to BSNL in regards to revenue generation and service provided to it's consumer's.

Ashok Leyland plans to launch new models in 5-12 tonne range.

The commercial vehicle market has been witnessing some serious competition with the global majors like Daimler entering the fray. Now it is reported in Business Standard that the commercial vehicle major Ashok Leyland from Hinduja Group plans to strengthen its presence in the 5-12-tonne range of vehicles. The report stated that the company is planning to launch trucks from the Prague-headquartered AVIA, which it had bought in 2006, and would upgrading its light commercial vehicles (LCVs) from the joint venture it has with of Japan. It has also said the JV with Nissan would turn cash-positive in the next 18 months.

The report quoted K Sridharan, chief financial officer of Leyland as saying “We have been traditionally a heavy duty player and our focus has been more on the above-25 tonnes category.” In the below-12 tonne segment,it has only one or two products. “Going forward, we should be able to consolidate our presence, with the launch of AVIA trucks and the upgraded version of products from the Leyland-Nissan JV, which should now move up from three-tonners to a higher range. If we succeed in that, we should be able to have more models in the 5-12 tonne range.” He said the Nissan JV can move up closer to eight tonnes.

It was reported that Leyland had joined hands with Nissan to enter the LCV space. The first model, Dost, was sold under the Ashok Leyland brand. It has 16.6 per cent nationwide in the 2-3.5 tonne segment.”We have done close to 7,500 vehicles (in the JV) and we do expect the business to turn cash-positive in the next one or one and a half years,” said Sridharan, according to the report.

Volvo CNG City Bus trials commence in Mumbai.

The Volvo 8,400 low-floor CNG city bus typifies the strengths of Volvo in terms of reliability, better performance, optimal operating costs, passenger & driver comfort and safety.

Following successful trials in New Delhi and Navi Mumbai, Volvo Buses recently commenced trials of its 8400 low-floor CNG city bus in the city of Mumbai. The CNG city bus just like all commercial vehicles from the Swedish bus giant offers very high quality, safety and technology standards with the added convenience of an easy to maintain CNG engine, that has been specifically designed to meet the demands of everyday city driving conditions.

A design that is an outcome of close collaboration between product designers from both Sweden and India, the Volvo 8,400 low-floor CNG city bus typifies the strengths of Volvo in terms of reliability, better performance, optimal operating costs, passenger & driver comfort and safety.

A more balanced power-to-weight ratio, a perfectly matched driveline for optimum on road performance and low-entry points at the front and in the middle for easier ingress and egress are some of the most noteworthy features on this low carbon footprint public transportation bus from Volvo currently going through its experimental phase in various major cities in the country.

The technical prowess of this vehicle has been further spruced up with the implementation of a new transmission system from Volvo - Ecolife, which besides offering a smoother drive experience to the driver should bring down fuel consumption significantly thanks to a fine-tuned gear system that recognizes exactly when a vehicle is moving into idle or into gear.

Good news for passengers is that the new 8400 CNG city bus will have an even stronger retarder (CV braking) system that ensures the ride will be even more jerk-free than ever before. With safety at the very core of brand Volvo, its 8400 CNG variant is packed with crash sensors and heat & fire detection alarms that will keep passengers protected and informed of lurking hazards at all times.

The Volvo 8400 CNG bus trial initiative in Mumbai has been made possible with support from the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply & Transport Undertaking (BEST). Mr. Ashok Patil, Chairman, BEST flagged off the first bus trial from Oshiwara depot. Manish Sahi, Managing Director, Volvo Buses, India was also present on the occasion.

CNG technology? then the FE figures could improve IMO which was a sore point earlier. Very much needed for BMTC fleet too.
