Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

Guys its second time this happened to me,what it was..

Just half an hour back I returned from Jaipur and today I was doing about 115 kph(Vipul bashers, kindly read it again) on the NH-8 on my way from Jaipur and then I noticed something amazing in my ORVM.I left the right lane for the vehicle to pass and what I found was a Rajasthan Roadways Volvo B7R(there was written Common Rail direct injection too in small fonts)overtaking my car,in fact nearly every car on the road as most of the people don't drive over 100-110.
I pressed on gas and followed the bus at about 120 kph and then I noticed that the bus further accelerated on an empty stretch and Whoa..my speedo needle just touched the 130 mark, then the bus braked and I overtook it,after that it was nowhere in my RVM..

My point is,such a heavy vehicle with high center of gravity and still such high speeds.Isn't it a bit too dangerous?

Nope it isn't when the safety standards like disc brakes ABS, ESP are given high priority in that B7R buddy, blame on the highways which encourages them to rip apart.

Blame highways!!!
Buddy they do 100 kph even on the dual carriageways..
There are many places where I drive at 40 kph and suddenly these gas-suspension equipped buses come at 80 kph and leave we poor bikers and car owners in dust-storms behind them..

Seen speeding Volvos & Merc buses on Pune-Nagpur route. Some volvo drivers drive as if they are driving a sports car & then at 11th hour will put one side below the road [frustration]. Experienced this well whenever I travel by Volvos on Pune-Nagpur route. But still our Indigo airlines zindabad.

And this is what happens if drivers think that stuff like ABS can save them. The Volvos are of KSRTC, Govt co. I have also seen banged volvos of Neeta travels. The merc bus is of Pune-Nagpur route where tyre bursted & it hit divider & fell into a ditch. Few people were killed. It was run by Girikand travels.

AL said that it would roll out Avia’s cab to India by the fourth quarter of 2012-13, which will replace Comet Cab. they also said the firm would launch two more products, including Jan Bus, a front-engine low floor bus, in the second half of the year, and Five Axle Rigid Truck by end of the first half of the year. What is more, the company is also contemplating on launching Neptune Engines in the next 3-4 months. Dasari said Ashok Leyland’s overall sales volume showed an upward surge of 101,990 vehicles in 2011-12 from 94,106, an increase of around 8.37 percent.

Mahindra Navistar, the truck joint venture between Mahindra & Mahindra and International Truck & Engine Corporation, has lined up 6-7 new products in FY13, in a bid to make deeper inroads into the highly competitive Indian truck market.

Encouraged by its market share doubling in the heavy truck space to 3% in the last quarter of FY12, Mahindra Navistar, which rolled out its 5,000th truck from its Chakan plant in May, is now gearing up for a bigger pie of the Indian truck market with a wider product portfolio and network of dealers.

Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

Question a bit OT: Has anyone done a bus ride in a Volvo B9R Multi-Axle bus? I would be doing a journey in this bus sometime soon to Tirupati. Anyone has any experience to share? I just want to be sure I won't be traveling in this bus without much leg room as that's a big problem for me

Great catch. That's a Heavy Duty Truck from Bharat Benz (3123). It is based on Axor and scheduled to arrive sometime soon in 2012 (Bharat Benz HDT).

I have travelled by B7R, B9R and Merc double axle on that too for 700 kms, Pune-Nagpur.

The legroom is prime importance for me, found Merc buses the most uncomfy (thanks to Sutlej coach builders [anger] ), B7R was better but B9R was best of all. But please see that the one I had travelled by was semi-sleeper B9R (120+ deg recline seats). If its semi-sleeper, it will be comfy, if not, it will be almost same as B7R, with 2 LCD screens though.
