Re: Velvet Sparky - Review After 10,000 Kms on Odometer

It was nice meeting you with Kiran & Velvet Sparky sir. Thank you for the TD, I felt the car was super smooth & the space too was very nice. I think your car has so many good things - space, PS, easy gearshift, cute looks etc mileage may improve if you use it regularly & without resting leg on clutch (just a suggestion).

Thank you Anand. And I am happy about all good things and more over most of the features you were mentioning was used by me for first time and I love it.

Am not worried about FE. They promised me something which am not getting. Tomorrow in my mileage test if they say "Sir this is the maximum and you wont get nothing than this" I would be happy to close the issue and start enjoying the drives with My sparky.

Guys, Pls find update on FE of my spark, talk of the meet[:D]

@sethu: From your data, noticed two things:
1) HP LPG cost is more and its giving lesser mileage (when compared to Reliance)
2) If you consider Reliance mileage to be benchmark (14.9 km/lt) then its quite good, considering LPG mileage is generally lower than what you would get in Petrol.

So I am guessing something is going wrong at the HP pump. This said I am not very conversant with LPG having never driven one myself.

Friends,

On Monday I went for test drive with Mileage tester.

Before proceeding further I would like to tell you about mileage tester since most of us are un-aware of that device.

This Device is called Mileage Tester, which costs about Rs.60000. It has pump inside and when it is connected to battery and switched on, the fuel filled in is being pumped. So the outlet is connected to our car after filling some amount of fuel in it. And the car id driven till it automatically switched off. Then with the KM and Fuel filled the FE is calculated. Some pics of it and how it is connected. Not able to click many pics.

Milage tester before fitting it in my sparky.

After CASS TD, before I start driving the people are filling fuel in it.

How it is connected to Car

The process followed for my sparky.
I reached the service center sharp at 10am. I met the AGM [customer care manager was on some training] who welcomed me well and asked one person to look into my task. My sparky was driven inside the floor and parked in a place where there will be a step inside. so that a person can go down and see the bottom of the car. When i was wondering why it was taken there, a guy went down with a bottle. near to rear right wheel by unscrewing some thing they filled the petrol in the bottle. Then I felt very bad that I could have gone there with a Plastic pump we use generally for kerosene filling in our homes. I had that for my fish tank cleaning and it was idle for past 1 year since I do not keep any fishes as of now. If I would have taken that, it might be easy for them to take petrol from tank. Any way, they waster lot of petrol. The worst thing was they do not even had a proper bottle. And one more thing, the mouth for filling fuel in that device was very small and they struggled a lot fill petrol in it.

Finally when they try to start the Mileage tester wiht the help of direct batery connection, it was not starting. There starts the problem. It took nearly 2 and half hours for them to set that problem.

so after that we started TD with Mileage tester. They shown me the leveler and told me there are 1.25 liters of petrol available. We went for the drive and like last time, this time also the tester did not crossed 70 KM speed and less than 2500 RPM. The difference is, the AC was switched off and the window doors were kept open since the mileage tester was connected to engine thru doors from front passenger seat.

It got switched off when after the mileage tester was completely dry. Then again they took fuel from the same position and filled petrol. Again this time no bottle was available and I took some bottle and given it to them. First I thought it was one and half liter bottle. But later we found it was 2 liter bottle and we filled nearly 1 and half liter of fuel [ Might be 10 % here and there ] and again I drove till we reach the service center. The results are as follows

Mileage Tester - FE Results.JPG

So the average is 20KM/l is the FE of my sparky without AC if the full drive is on highway. The important thing is, when I did TD, the fuel in mileage tester was not dry till i reached the service center. I do not know how many KMs more it would have run. I actually discounted it.

Guys, now tell me where I was making mistake. or the fuel station guys are playing with quantity or I do some wrong calculations [I doubt the last part, but pls point it if it is true]

The funniest part of the entire event was, after I completd this TD when I was returning back home, I was thursty and wanted to drink something and stoped my sparky near a sugar cane juice shop and about to order something, a person came near me and the following is the conversation between me and him.

Third Person
Sir, how is this vehicle, how is the FE.

without knowing the BG, I said, Good vehicle, it gives good FE [What else to say after seeing those results]

Third person
Sir, for me it is not giving mileage at all. It gives one 12 something. All in my village are laughing at me that I bought some useless vehicle, failure model etc etc. But I like this vehicle, it is so smooth like anything. I bought it as second hand one for 2.5 l when the odo was 20K KM.

Then I told him,
Dont worry sir, it is a good vehicle. In city/village traffic it will be only that much. When you take in highway and maintain your speed below 80 you will get 16 to 18.

he was so happy for that and left after thanking me.

I really dont know what made him to ask me that question.

Anyway, now things are closed in this aspect. As RK and Varun used to say, am going to enjoy driving my sparky without worrying about FE.

So guys, in next meet you cant pull me referring FE.[lol]

@Sethu,

Even now I am saying once again, you spark is excellent in every aspect, so just forget about that FE difference of 4 to 5 km here and their as it most of the time depends on our driving style and traffic conditions. Do take care of it with regular service, it will serve you well. So happy ending to FE problem and more than any body I am relieve much[lol]

Sethu, Congrats!! Put a new Avatar with a big smile now :-). Now you actually know what is the FE of your Sparky. The LPG mileage was good too at the speed you've mentioned. Enjoy your ride to the fullest and happy driving.
BTW the info regarding mileage tester was really really helpful. Thanks for the same. Cheers!!

The Eleventh Commandment is "Thou shalt not drive with thy foot resting on the clutch pedal."

Imagine lying nude and supine on a road at a time when temperature is touching 45 degrees celcius in May afternoon on Chennai-Pondi Highway and trying to move forward by doing a breaststroke when there is a 100 kg load placed on your back. That's how the clutch feels if you put your feet on it while driving a car/motorcycle.

Merci!

Thanks Sam. I could be doing that mistake. If yes, I will try not to do it.

Thank you for your inputs.

Friends,

Changed my sparky's number plate. It costs me Rs.700 for both sides. He said Rs.900 from there I bargained to Rs.700. Do not know clever deal or not.
