allow me to share a couple of experiences i rmember (obviously the bitter ones

2. was going to mysore with a friend and his family. had planned to fill it up at shell pump on mysore road. But since that was closed, stopped by IOC bunk ahead. The kid of my friend was not feeling well, so we were looking at him, when the service attendant claimed to have filled up. This happened in a couple of moments. I was not sure as I had calculated it would gulp in 25 litres, and that much cannot go in few seconds. So I asked him to verify it, but he had by then already reset the pump to 0. So while my friend was attending to his kid, I parked my car nearby with engine on, letting the fuel gauge re-calibrate. To my astonishment, the gauge somewhere near the half way mark. When I showed that to the service assistant, he started a quarrel with me claiming my fuel gauge is faulty. At this time other motorists had also joined in...
You handled the situation quite well,This type of situation keep arising time to time, and people are no more trustworthy, hence should believe on your own eyes and ears.

This happened to me at Ranchi at a BP petrol bunk. Its near Birsa chowk (BP and Indian oil bunks opposite to each other). I went for a tank full of diesel. While he tried to keep me busy talking, I noticed the meter reaching Rs 80 in no time. I immediately asked him to stop at Rs100. I paid Rs100 and went to Indian oil bunk. The person at this bunk showed me zero before starting. We need to be careful while filling up. Its a must to switch off the engine. Get OUT of the car and let it be done in front of your eyes. If they have tampered with metering, we cant do much. Here's a video. What are we going to do in this case?

Indian oil bunks are the worst in Bangalore, never trust them because they cheat the customers like anything. Better to find some better petrol pumps.
Can trust HP to some extent in Bangalore.
I dont think we can be company specific out here. It depends on the operator. I would say, most of them would try to cheat if they feel they can. Be alert.

The best thing to do and what I always practice is "Not to open the Fuel Lid until I get out of the car." No matter how much ever he yells at me to do it earlier than that.

I showed the (facebook link) petrol cheating video to my friend yesterday & he told me they rig it in most places. He only has found some 2 or 3 pumps in Bangalore with accuracy & quality. He has a construction company & he fills tankers with 500 litres for his gensets.

He mentioned petrol pump near RV teachers college(lazy staff though) & Pump near Bowring are good.

He also pointed out that if you go to some petrol pumps with a big can they will ask you to go to certain dispenser cos they know they will get busted otherwise.

But i believe petrol is the hot favorite fuel to adulterate cos of more profit per ml cos of the huge price diff over diesel.

The best thing to do and what I always practice is "Not to open the Fuel Lid until I get out of the car." No matter how much ever he yells at me to do it earlier than that.
YEs i also follow the same thing, i do not heed.

Re: Saga of Ever Rising Fuel Prices in India

I feel the same. Now a days I fill both petrol and AutoLPG at BP fuel station which is in service road when coming from Amenjikarai towards Koyambedu. Seems to be good.
I used to fill diesel in a HP bunk just opposite to Miot hospital, I think its not company operated one but still good on quality and quantity.this is on the way to my office in dlf it park.

There is very high number of fraud activities hapening in many of bunks.i still remember atleast I have been cheated 4 times on different fuel stations in chennai.but not sure whether the filling boys act alone or in line with the dealers instructions.

Re: Saga of Ever Rising Fuel Prices in India

These fraud activities increased when the fuel prices increased. Last month, i had a talk with Tanker lorry owner guy, he told he only using the fuel, which he saved by cheating the dealers. he was ready to sell fuel to me, but there was no stock with him that time. 2 days before i had a call from him that petrol is available at Rs.60 with his friend, but we need to buy his total stock of 500 ltrs. i just dropped that plan.

Re: Saga of Ever Rising Fuel Prices in India

Guys how can one decide on the quality of fuel at different stations?
There are many scientific methods of determining quality of fuel and many of the fuel stations display the same as well. In such pumps, I believe consumers can request the test to be done in front of them as well. Personally, I haven't tried.

Following are some things I look for while choosing a pump:
1. Operated by oil companies, lorry owners association
2. Operated by big companies (whose primary business is not fuel pump)
3. Cleaner, busier, bigger ones - though little crowded, will get fresher fuel

>> Once finalized, use the same pump(s) every time - while in city. At Coimbatore, I fuel in NGP fuel station 9 out of 10 times, for close to 5 years and no complaints on quality. I get free nitrogen refill as well.. :). Other reputed ones in Coimbatore are Ramsons & Jaishree (Avinashi road), Shanthi & LGB (Trichy road). ABT in pollachi road also used to be good - somehow don't have same feeling now and hence avoid.

While in other locations, I Avoid:
1. Fueling in remote areas
2. Fuel stations with old pumps

Re: Saga of Ever Rising Fuel Prices in India

I was really shocked yesterday.

For past 2 years I was filling AUTOLPF in couple of specific fuel stations in and around Koyambedu and I was cribbing about FE (7 KMPL)

Then past 2 months I changed to another BP fuel station and I was getting good FE (10 KMPL). On sunday I was forced to fill in the old station.

I was shocked when I got only 4.3 KMPL. I really do not know whether to complaint or not.

I had been a victim of adulterated petrol recently. Bought a new Honda Aviator a few days back, 250km in odo till now. after 140 km in odo I had to wash the the fuel tank, fuel line and the carb. The carb was leaking through the overflow pipe like anything. Culprit was open float valve due to some black fine residues. when I told the service personnel that just after taking delivery I refueled my bike at the nearby petrol pump, he told me that I shouldn't have gone to that pump as they were infamous for mixing kerosene and diesel in petrol. He asked me to smell the petrol in my bike's tank and it was really smelling like kerosene.
I am thankful to the Honda dealer as they didn't charge anything for the job. Very prompt and courteous service staff. I found mechanics are more courteous than front office staff in most of the Honda two wheeler dealers. LOL
After servicing of my bike, I went to the pump, talked to the manager and asked my money back narrating the incident. Interestingly he agreed without a fight. huh?? then I explained everything to a few teenagers in costly bikes in the pump as they asked me what had happened. You can imagine what might have happened after that. They found the same smell in petrol, beaten up the pump manager and worker badly and only after the assurance of the owner that he'll bear the cost of fuel and petrol tank wash of their bikes they stopped. no police complaint was made at that time. I informed a few chaps in local media about it but didn't followup what had happened later on. I've learnt my lesson and will never ever go to that pump again.

Re: Saga of Ever Rising Fuel Prices in India

Proving short fueling and other malpractices while filling the gas are always a challenge. So the stations take advantage of this. Need to plan the travel and fill in a regular known auto gas stations.

My thought is, even though the branded private auto gas stations charge a re. or more but the quantity and quality compromise chance is pretty less as this is the branding point of their business.

4.3 KMPL?? !! Never ever refuel in that station again.
I have already decided. And that is the only fuel station where when am filling the AutoLPG it will stop abruptly in half way thru. Then the guy will get my keys and do a small punch in GAS inlet in my car and he will reset for the balance amount and refill it.

I think something is going wrong there.
