Re: Saga of Ever Rising Fuel Prices in India

Looks like finding out fraud practices in gas stations is much more tricky than Oil pumps. I have small time-period of experience and have never faced huge issues but yes I have few of them. I see a significant drop in my FE for same quantity of CNG that I fill in my Waggie and drive the same route in almost the same path. Now I have locked in for a stations which is near to my residence and is interior. The benefits being, the station is new and need to build repo and have limited potential customer (as located in residential area) and hence his need to serve quality stuff to keep people attracted to itself.

I fillup LPG at IOC pump near Airport, the fuel quantity and quality is OK but the pump operators cheat a lot by distracting you.

These days I am filling at a private bunk called Total Gas near Madipakkam and get good FE.

Neelkanth, How much you are paying for private gas. One near kumnanchavadi before poonamalli is chargine Rs.53.50 where the govt one sells it at Rs.52.

Anyway no private is closer to my house. So I have fixed BP near koyambedu bridge as current one.

BTW couple of questions

  • what car you have
  • is that a company fitted kit
  • what is the FE you get.

The private gas bunk in Madipakkam charges equal to what PSU pumps charge.

1) I had Spark LT LPG - Sold two days back
2) Yes company fitted kit
3) On LPG with AC in city I get around 10 kmpl and on highways 13-14 kmpl. I have managed to get 14 on an avg on highways which is higher than what company ARAI has mentioned. I never drove Sparky without AC.

Okie. But the private one which I was telling was seeling it in Rs.1.50 Premium. Do not know why.

So what is your next car and what was in ODO when you sold your spark any specific reason for selling it apart from performace issue? Why am asking this is it is good car for that money.

FE is really putting me down in my sparky. I think that depends on Filling station also I belive. One fill before my last fill given my just 4.5 KMpl. I think some malfunction is going on that specific station. Last fill as of now it is 8. Am sure it will get add another 1 or 2 KM pls so that will be 9 or 10 in City and Yes with Full AC.

Instead of doing all these circus you'd better fill petrol and use the car judiciously or get a base model beat D, start [drive] (Apologies in advance :D)

On a serious note, there's really no difference of using CNG/LPG which gives a mileage in single digits that of a bus!

You are right sir. I should have taken that decision first itself. Now already 2 years gone and 2 more years. And do not want to invest money now on car.

Let me drive sparky for another 3-4 years and then think of changing the car. I want next to be a nice Sedan or SUV (You know my dream of owning a SUV)

I was really shocked yesterday.

For past 2 years I was filling AUTOLPF in couple of specific fuel stations in and around Koyambedu and I was cribbing about FE (7 KMPL)

Then past 2 months I changed to another BP fuel station and I was getting good FE (10 KMPL). On sunday I was forced to fill in the old station.

I was shocked when I got only 4.3 KMPL. I really do not know whether to complaint or not.
Its not about the mileage, the amount of gas they filled. My Brother in law is working in HPCL he used to tell that petrol bunk loot more money from the autogas only. They add some gas(forgotten the name) with it i.e if you fill autogas for 1litre the actual amount of gas filled will be somewhat 600 to 800ml rest will be that gas only. It seems BP fuel station is filling with less profit. He used to tell to avoid the private petrol bunks.
He always recommend a HP bunk in Tnagar near Joyalukkas jewellery. That is governed directly by HPCL so no adulteration. You can feel the engine difference and rise in fuel efficiency.

Are you talking about this bunk in above post?

Thanks for the Info. I can see the difference between other petrol bunk and BP. Now a days I fill only in the following BP Petrol bunk.

Yup the same bunk. Initially it was owned by a private owner, after adulteration complaint it was undertaken by HPCL itself.

wow. its news to me that they sell autoLPG. Anyway next time I will try with them.
Yes sethu, the one in the Usman road signal corner, opposite to Viveks is company owned and operated HP fuel station for the past 5 years. The other one (HP) is in Nandanam just after DSC Hyundai, before MPL Ford. The next one is before 1000 lights, just after getting down Anna flyover on the left side, opposite to American Consulate. The one operated by TVS is also good but always crowded.
