1) pricing of spare parts : an chrome strip on front bumper of Linea cost 3.4k that should alone explain the concept of pricing by FIAT

2) Bad resale value : i know mfg companies have little control over this, but FIATs do extremely bad in second hand market. Even HM's vehicles fair better
There is no problem in the pricing of spares, they are priced properly. Normal service cost 5200 bucks for a punto, punto 90,linea diesel. Item you have specified is a accessory and they are expensive in all the brands.

Sir, when you buy a toyota Altis or etios and pay 2.5k ( for smile pack) your 2 services are covered for free of cost. Service isn't the issue. It is spare parts

My friend had a linea petrol emotion pack which had a accident. The front bumper needed to be replaced which did not comes the the crome strip standard, they had to be bought extra. Sadly we tried grey market but couldnt find the strip at cheaper price.

On resale, the 2010 linea ws sold for a mere 3.35 lakh that also to a user. Your could search the internet for used FIATs and you will understand how much it pains to see these beauty go for peanuts.

I know very well about the resale value of fiat, that is really sad that such nice cars don't have good resale. And yeah buddy things like these are expensive i am not against you. But things like these are expensive in any other brand as well, that is my point.

The million dollar question is would you buy a Fiat
Sure we all are fans of then way fiat tunes it cars for driving pleasure, but when the time comes we choose Japanese over the Italians.
Fiats are for enthusiasts, one who loves to drive their cars with full interest, whereas these Japanese care are just made to achieve mileage and to work well with the budget conscious people.

This bring me back to an important question. Where is FIAT going wrong ?
Few insights that i may give in

1) pricing of spare parts : an chrome strip on front bumper of Linea cost 3.4k that should alone explain the concept of pricing by FIAT
Since these parts are not very common to replace like your lights and indicators are usually on the higher side, moreover the quality used in them are solid unlike the el cheapo parts these jap's car use.

2) Bad resale value : i know mfg companies have little control over this, but FIATs do extremely bad in second hand market. Even HM's vehicles fair better
Fact is, people in India are Swiftified (Read as running behind swift) for mileage concerns, so the punto being a competitor Doesn't get a chance to come inside the prospective buyer who only wants the fuel bills less and Tata's A.S.S which gradually makes the re-sale value of the car less.

Agree here, Spares issue is one thing which Fiat should consider to provide better A.S.S.

I believe Fiat doesnt have a volume car for the Indian market. Their cheapest model is the premium hatchback Punto which is not so cheap to maintain too (mileage, spare parts). Their cars are suited for the developed markets, they won't sell in numbers here.

Agreed they have great diesel engines, but unfortunately for them people just buy a Maruti diesel with Fiat's engine! I guess Fiat is making more money selling their engines than with their cars here?!

On top of that Fiat has very low brand image in India and they have neglected to increase their service network for years. Partnering with TATA was just cutting corners to save costs in setting up their own A.S.S network. They have paid dearly for that too.

They need to show commitment to the Indian market; bring cars suited for Indian market, and pull up their socks in A.S.S.

Fiat is changed now.they have started their own service centers and showrooms and in coming months we will see vast improvement in A.S.S.both Linea and Punto are suited for indian market but these indians have made these both unsuitable here.hoping that Fiat brings a volume car next year.

I too believe this phrase..Awesome lines to comment to those people who are always against Fiat..
Let people believe what they want to believe buddy. Everyone has different taste and likes and that is the reason for the existance of many manufacturers in the market. Customers pick a product based upon their need and priority. People buying fiat are ready to take gamble on the uncertanity associated with fiat and their ASS for the awesome product. Others may not want to and settle for a tried and tested product. Just to quote my example I am in the market for a month or two. Fiat was never in my consideration set you may call it ignorance also. By chance I happen to look upon punto as an option because of heavy discounts and VOILA situation turned upside down and I ended up booking punto. I will be sharing details in my ownership review once I get hold of the car. But frankly speeking I still get scared after reading some bad experiences of fiat ASS afterall it's big money at stake.[confused]

Guys I am not against Fiat, its a great brand globally. I am aware of the improvements they have been making recently in A.S.S. However getting back to thread title, the question is can Fiat re-establish in India and I don't think cars like Punto or Abarth can help do that. These are niche products that only cars enthusiasts like in this forum buy, and are not mass appeal cars and won't sell in any numbers. Fiat needs to sell here what people like/want to buy. They can look at what kind of cars other MNCs like Ford and Honda have launched recently to boost their flagging sales.

Sorry to mention that its your personal opinion or maybe your perception on the brand, in the real world no A.S.S is the best in our country. See every customer has a compliant on his car which is never solved.

What i felt is Fiat has quality in their cars, and somehow somewhere they haven't read our Indian market, its even tougher to survive in this marutified market. Just imagine if Fiat did not offer MJD for the swift? There would absolutely no era of diesel cars, perhaps not much competitors also.

Ya let these people believe what they want to believe.you are absolutely right.but wait a minute from now on there will be no uncertainity associated with fiat and their ASS for the awesome product.i had commented on fiat india's fb page abt good service given by its dealer manickbag fiat in hubli but no spares available from more than 3 months.by seeing this Mr.Mangesh Kodalkar, head for customer services@fiat india was quick in replying to me.he gave a ring to my cell.he assured to me that spares will be available with dealer soon and assured to me that my feedback is viewed with top most concern.i was like[clap]Fiat was also never in my consideration for buying.ya many are going for Fiat's bcoz of heavy discounts and VOILA situation for Fiat in our country.congrats for booking Punto.dont get scared i will give you assurance that you wont have bad experiences at Fiat ASS afterall you have invested big money at stake in this brand.waiting for you car's loads of pics, booking, showroom, buying and ownership review.
