With the new Fiat Linea (2014) and FIat Viaggio hitting the market soon (November 2013 and Jan 2014), we can expect some better competition amongst European cars.

Fiat Linea Classic will mostly cater to the Call-Taxis and Passenger segments, but won't be a hit amongst enthusiastic drivers

Hope these 2 models can revive Fiats future in India.Already sales numbers are touching 4 fgures, which is good. I am checking out a European Sedan with Linea/Rapid and Vento in mind. I am already getting 1L off on Linea as Loyalty bonus [lol]

thanks

Hi Vijay,

I can confirm you that Fiat Viaggio is not coming to India. Atleast not in next one year. What we are getting is New Linea; with some mods in exterior exterior styling & new interiors.
Though there will be nothing new on powertrain front. Same 1.3 MJD & 1.4 T-Jet will do duty with C549 transmission (which is not quick shifting box anyway).
What Fiat India may possibly do is some remapping of 1.3 MJD ECU to up the power by more 3-4 ps. But this change will hardly be helpful to make new Linea hold its forte against more potent VW engine (1.6 TDI of Rapid & vento). T-jet being petrol is hardly going to get significant numbers.
Even with new (read refreshed) launches in mind, things are not so encouraging at the moment.
Fiat India badly needs one blockbuster product. Linea refresh/Punto refresh can't be blockbusters.

^^It looks bit disappointed as how a company can grow with just two models in which only one(Punto) is doing well.

There is no much use if they keep saying "New Punto", "Refreshed Punto" "classic Punto" "Punto limited edition" etc., see every where only Punto exists with attached tag and a little cosmetic lift.

Fiat seriously need to introduce more new models to re establish, if not till then the sales figures will be in few hundreds every month consistently and after some time they come to two digits

Fiat India to launch 4 new cars this year.

Fiat has an exciting line up of products for this year. We have already launched our brand New Linea and will soon be coming out with New Punto. Avventura, a contemporary utility vehicle (CUV) will be making its global debut in India.
Now the CUV seems interesting, let's see if this will excite the Indian buyers!

Although I am an avid Fiat fan and a Linea owner myself, I will believe in whatever Fiat says only when I see these cars on the road. For example,I cannot , for the life of me, understand why Fiat has allowed Magneti Marelli to license its AMT technology to the likes of MSIL, TML and others while it does not offer the same in its own cars or atleast a particular model. They need to be far more agile and " in your face" with respect to their presence. As of now ,that is limited to a few "enthusiast" buyers like moi, but they need to appeal to the Mr and Mrs Guptas and the Mr and Mrs Kulkarnis and everyone else like them- regular family type owners. Only then will they taste true success.

TATA-FIAT's Ranjangaon plant makes 300,000th car

Fiat India Automobiles Limited (FIAL) has rolled out the 300,000th car from its Ranjangaon manufacturing facility located in Maharashtra. As our regular readers may recall, this facility rolled out the 250,000th car and the 500,000th engine in August last year.

The Ranjangaon plant makes petrol and diesel engines for its own consumption and also supplies to Maruti Suzuki, Premier Automobiles and Tata Motors. The factory is spread over 200 acres and provides employment for 4,000 direct and indirect personnel. At full capacity, the facility is capable of producing 200,000 cars, 300,000 engines, and 300,000 parts and accessories a year.

FIAL is a 50-50 joint venture between Fiat S.p.A and Tata Motors. The joint venture recently invested INR 4,000 crores and currently makes the Fiat Punto, Linea (2014 Linea and Linea Classic), Tata Manza, Vista and Indica V2. The 1.3-liter Multijet diesel, and the 1.2- and 1.4-liter FIRE petrol engines are made in this plant.

Fiat and Tata said in a statement that the Ranjangaon plant will be used to make future cars of both partners. Fiat India will use this plant to make models such as the Avventura, refreshed Punto and Abarth 500 (CKD), while Tata would make the Bolt and Zest here. Once Jeep enters India, the Ranjangaon plant could be used for the local assembly of the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler and the Renegade.

If that is indeed the plan, then Fiat's future in India doesn't look good. I hope there is more to it. Fiat needs a slew of products and I definitely hope to see 500X getting launched here.

Fiat Plans To Make India an Export Hub for small cars

Fiat India might be introducing the Abarth and Jeep brands, but this isn’t being done only to get more premium products to India. Fiat India is developing products that will be manufactured and exported from the Ranjangaon facility.
Fiat India has been developing a new platform X3U, which will be a new modular platform that will be used to build a new hatchback, sedan and even an SUV. The SUV will be a compact one, and it will be for the B-segment. Fiat might introduce this SUV under the Jeep brand and for India this will be a front-wheel drive. For other export markets, this new SUV will have an all-wheel drive option too, this is one reason why Fiat is studying its own product, the Panda 4×4 to develop a more affordable technology. There is no clarity if the new hatchback and sedan could be the new Punto and Linea. Mostly it will be and these vehicles will be tweaked in design and styling to cater to the Indian car buyers. These will products will be ready by late 2017 or early 2018.

Fiat brand has increased its R&D team in Ranjangaon as this team earlier had a work force of about 30-40 employees, which is now in excess of 650. The company is developing this new platform for Indian car market and at the same time looking at exporting to increase its volumes and make the product a lot more affordable. Fiat India is also developing the 1.5-litre multijet, which will be derived from the existing 1.6-litre engine. This will not just reduce the cost but even make the new generation products a lot more powerful. The company has heavily invested in this project and once the production for these vehicles commences, the Ranjangaon will be running in almost its full capacity. Fiat India's free check up camp from May 7 to 9

Fiat Group Automobiles India Pvt. Ltd (FGAIPL) has organised a free summer check up camp across its dealerships all over India. This service camp will start on May 7 and will take place till May 9.

The summer camp has been set up across 98 cities in different states across India. Existing consumers can take advantage of the three-day summer camp by availing the services free of cost. Fiat car owners can get their car checked at the 60 point check-up area in their workshop. Apart from this, the cars will be provided free top wash and free AC disinfectant treatment. Fiat will also give 10 per cent discount on labour and a discount of Rs 525 on installation of reverse parking sensor.

Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FIAT Chrysler India Operations said,
"The upcoming summer checkup camp by FCA India is a step towards our efforts to enhance customer engagement. FCA remains committed to provide the Indian market with world-class after sales service through their network of workshops across the country. We have seen a very positive response to all the check-up camps in the past. FCA’s summer checkup camp is a promising way to connect with our existing customer base and conduct the preventive check for them to let them know that FCA highly cares about their safety."
Fiat India is making constant efforts to reach out to its current and prospective customers with check-up camps. The summer check up camp is a good way for a manufacturer to connect with their existing customer base and delight them with their after sales service in India. The company also aims to emerge as a brand which people can relate to and believe that such camps are an effective way to please their widespread consumer base. The carmaker has also opened new dealerships in our country and is constantly trying to increase its foothold in India.

Fiat India may stop domestic sales, focus on Jeep

FCA’s long term vision is to take the ‘Jeep’ brand on a bigger scale than the ‘Fiat’ brand, which is averaging 500-600 cars per month for all the current models.
That makes it highly unsustainable for dealers to sell a mass brand with low volumes and makes more sense to switch over to a brand which is premium, ensuring higher margins, and also giving decent numbers.

And ‘Jeep’ fits the bill since it’s a renowned brand across the globe with a good fan following in India. However, nothing is being firmed up by the company yet.

If speculation is to be believed, the Italian-American carmaker is adopting a similar strategy as its primary focus has shifted towards ‘Jeep’ brand of cars for both domestic and overseas operations.

If the speculation turns out to be true, it will be the fourth time that the company would be revamping its operations.

Meanwhile FCA has announced withdrawing sales of FIAT cars in Japan from 2018. Will concentrate on brand JEEP only.
