Hi All
I have a small query. Does the VIN no of car reflects the manufacturing month and year of the chassis or the car?
I have booked a punto 1.3 dynamic on 31st july. I was given delivery date of 12th Aug. The car they offered me was manufactured in Jan 2013 which I refused. After bashing them hard they came up with the excuse that VIN no is actually the manufacturing month of chassis and this car has come from the factory itself. Though I didn't buy their logic and they have placed a new order to the factory. This new vehicle was billed to them on 21st Aug ( The delay was cited because of my demand of latest vehicle as per them) and they are assuring me that the vehicle will be post refresh. I am waiting for a month and have started loosing my patience. Though I am completely sold over Punto and I don't think I will be happy if I buy some other car now as it will be my second choice only.
Do you people smell anything fishy? What should I do?

Good that you rejected the Jan'13 made car, do not keep second thoughts of going for other cars as the aftermath will be pathetic, all i could say is to have some patience and wait till you get the latest model, this thread will help you further:

Also do not forget to carry the PDI list before you inspect your car.

@m2....2me,VIN reflects vehicle manufacturing date. It is again mentioned on the RC smart card by RTO which later on determines resale value.

About the car which is manufactured more than six months back, following link would help you which is based on some some research. Check it.

BTW, how much is the discount offered on the Jan 13 model? And how much discount is offered on newly manufactured car?

I would simply advice you to get that Jan 13 made punto and try to extract as much discount as possible. But do a proper PDI before talking it. And there would surely be some monor issues with 6 month old car but you can live with them if you would get good discounts. As its fiat nothing major would be there.

Note: Look at the odo first you enter the car there should be "H" besides the odo reading in the MID.

Fiat India isn’t just setting up new dealerships, but it is also getting ready for several more launches. The company had recently unveiled the Grande Punto Sport, and now we will soon see the Abarth Punto and the Jeep Cherokee and Wrangler by the end of this year. These make it three for this year.

The currently sold Linea will get a facelift in the coming six months. There will be the Linea Classic also available in the market that will be lighter in weight and with lesser features than the existing Linea. The Linea Classic will have the same 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine, but the power could be reduced to 75bhp. This will compete in the C segment. In the second half of 2014, the Linea will be available only with a 1.4-litre T-Jet engine and 1.6-litre multijet. To further diversify its portfolio, Fiat will introduce the Punto Adventure, that will be something similar to the VW Cross Polo. CarDekho was the first to report on this, and we get you more insights of the Fiat’s future plans.
The Italian manufacturer is also planning compact SUVs in the B and C segments. The B segment will have the Fiat badge, while the C segment will get the Jeep branding. This makes seven models for the company, which doesn’t include the facelift of the Linea. The B and C segment SUVs will be powered by 1.4-litre T-Jet and 1.6-litre multijet engines. The company will be selling Fiat, Abarth and Jeep brands under one roof. This will take their current portfolio to nine products by the end of 2016.

Linea Classic will doesn't sounds great because we every one what happen to fiesta classic and Fiesta [anger]

So Fiat has to re-think their move and or else they should rebrand the Linea Classic with some other new name or Discontinued model names like Fiat Petra or Fiat Siena

Hi,
I got the delivery of punto on 7-9-2013. Dealer mentioned free RSA for 50 months while booking the car. While Taking the delivery dealer din't give proper explanation for RSA and no documents of RSA. I raised above issue on Facebook page of Fiat.
To my surprise they responded with proper comments and call from the RSA Executive.
He was very courteous he called once as i was driving the car, told him to call back after 1 hr and he called exactly after 1 hr and he explained RSA and how to avail RSA and sent the RSA manual to email ID [clap]. If they continue this kind of customer relationship i think they can easily re-establish here.

This definitely is good sign. Fiat seems to be putting serious efforts to make the customer happy. However, i wish they train their dealers to be proactive and not reactive, as was this case. Not that all other manufacturers/dealers take care of everything during delivery, but it is increasingly important for Fiat to re-establish itself.

I think FIAT is pretty serious about their business but the dealers are screwing the image,as i had faced unprofessional attitude of the dealer in bangalore (AADYA Motors). While i went for booking they din't offer a cup of tea or water [surprise].

But when i went for Vecto motors they served cool drinks before seeing the vehicle.
I din't expect the drinks but they would have just offered. This will create good feeling about dealer.
Vecto is more professional i believe. They followed up regularly but i went and brought from Aadya because they provided the test drive to my residence.

@Nadeem Ahmed VR 46
I brought from AADYA motors Bangalore but i don't recommend them any more for others.

can have a look at my ownerhip report in below path:

Fiat dealers are really nice here.I asked for Linea T-jet test drive and they promptly brought the car to my residence which was 30kms away.I would have bought the T-jet if not for the long clutch travel and notchy gear shift.
