Yes Prads, you are right. Initially I was hunting for a resonably priced SS80, later dropped that plan. Went ahead with this car,I Love to work on it.

It was too hot, but somehow below the car the heat isnt much. I was sweating though.

I am slowly buying parts & fitting them myself. I did not know that I will be doing all this stuff on this car, as it looked somewhat troublefree when compared to all other ones I test drove. Loving my car more & more [:D]

Removed AC parts (compressor) recently (gave it to one of my teacher- his M800 will be cooler now) - below are the pics. My car engine has done more than a lac (I guess)kms. It needs mild rebuilding (compression ratio must be low).

Was more than happy to give this, he too is helping me back with other parts[:D] I am planning for a DIY for the insane heat inside the car & will post it here is if I succeed.

Get the compression test done.If you a doing an engine rebuild, get it done at a well known place. It is a critical job.

Good DIY.. so was the rattling/ thud sound solved after changing all these ?
To some extent yes, but the engine seems to literally roar [lol]. I mean it revs like as if it has lost all its heavy parts. At idling the difference is felt clearly.

Anyidea how much would that compression tool cost? Varun was explaining me the other day about how it is used. Any online site to buy?

Can Engine rebuild be a DIY?

OT: If there is any m800 specific site/ thread/ pdf that says how to perform engine rebuild in different stages, please do refer me.

You will need to lift the engine out of the car, so its not a one man job.Various tools are needed for different parts. So you will needs specialized tool and some help from friends.

You might need the use of a lathe, some places really specialize in machining the block and head for better flow of air, valve lapping and seating.

A compression kit can be bought for Rs3000.You get an MGP one.
It has the compression gauge and spark plug hole adapters.

Will changing the head alone give exceptional mileage/ performance?
Or is it essential to remove all the other things like the cylinder block, crankshaft etc etc
I feel my engine head must be in bad shape/ lot of dirt kind of stuff. Is there any harm if I just remove the head cover & do some basic cleaning for those springs etc that are easily visible?

Why not get the engine flushed.Get it done at a garage where they have flushing equipment.

The machine is connected to the engine and it runs with the engine and it circulates the flushing liquid in the engine for 15 mins.(timing may differ, It was 15 on a wurth machine).By the way the cover you are referring to is the cam cover.

Instead of an engine rebuild go for a half engine if you feel yours is not worth rebuilding. Its a direct drop contains everything pistons, con rods, crank.Just drop it in and you are done.Cost is Rs12057 as of this moment.Straight from MGP

Also remember to add the flushing liquid to the distributor gears also.Add new oil and filters and your car should be purring.

If your car is done 1lac plus kms you might need an engine rebuild if one was not done by the previous owner.

In that case I would suggest going for that half engine.Compare the cost part by part and of the fully assembled half block and then decide which is more economical.

Yes team DIY for sure, whatever you do before you touch the engine get yourself a torque wrench.

All the engine bolts need to tightened with a certain pressure. Not too tight and not too loose.A torque wrench is always money well spent.

Hmmm do you recommend any particular company torque wrench?
I heard dayton tools & taparia are good.

Hi SS80, there is nothing required as of now, you need to change all the fluids, engine bedding and some cables too..

These things would not cost more !!
Rebuilding the engine alone ? Definitely a tough job but its not that it can't be done.
We require many tools, as Jarpickle suggested go for half engine block for 12.5k..

Yeah you guys are right, for time being replacing engine oils etc is top priority. Will do a couple of long drives & understand in detail how my car behaves & what exactly is needed. Half engine block is a better idea than rebuilding existing one.

OT: Hmmmm I was expecting your reply here. Offline for almost a day?
