Creativity, money, desire and will can turn any car into a head turner, but then again it all boils down to individual perspectives. Some like oranges, some like apples, I like jackfruit
@brijeshpillai: If TATA makes Sumo available in the version posted in first pic, then it will surely sell more than now. And also more personal users will be interested in buying it. I would consider it for sure.

But its not for every one
I think Tata might bring back the spare wheel on to the tail gate as this arrangement doesn't had any problem in the sumo as in the safari(is there any problem)
It will give some ruggedness for the sumo which it lacks now. Also the rear looks bland without that spare wheel.
A 4x4 sumo is worth the consideration isn't it ??

I had asked for the 4x4 version because someone I know told me that it is made on order, but the sales guy told me that it is no longer the case
i think the spare wheel mounted on the door causes rattling in the long run, but i believe that this purely is related to regular maintanance
though I can see how it can be a problem for a guy like me, I am 5'6 and on the lighter side so me thinks would be a challenge to lift and lug the wheel off the door, though I have never lifted a tyre in my life and I could be wrong
Really looks neat and actually I just spotted a one similarly modded with large profile tyres (large means really large tyres). It was looking so sexy. I just fell in love to Sumo in that single glance.
This is 4X4 Tata Sumo used as ambulance in military. It has 3.0 L BSIII engine with 115 bhp power and torque of 300 NM . The same as earlier Tata Safari
I too am surprised with the numbers it has given for the month of December, It was constant in 3k mark and was serving the market well, though it is December, but this kind of fall isn't expected.
Meanwhile Bolero takes 4th place which was occupied by Wagon-R by 9~k units.
Take a look at history of december sales from Tata,it has always been feeble.Nothing surprising as it should be accounted to something related to inventory clearing before new year.
115 bhp & 300 nm of torque..
Imho that is needed for the particular car as it has more weight than the regular one.
But it will be great to have this engine in the gold as it will make the gold a rocket in that segment..
Don't take the word meaning of rocket please..
@ THE X_OVER
Nos will be limited IMHO..
The market at which it is aimed does not need a 4x4 variant. But I don't mind Tata offering one atleast under special request..
Great news for Sumo GOLD lovers, this (S?)UV has been extremely successful as per senior Tata Motors official:
Observing that the Tamil Nadu market constitutes about 17 per cent of the company's total SUV sales, he said the other product "Sumo Gold" has got encouraging response since its launch last year.
"Sumo Gold has been very well received (in the market). It has surpassed sales of double its volumes since its launch", he said.
Great to see this car challenging the position of UV king Bolero.Hope the fight gets more intense and customers get more options to choose. After the departure of Qualis,I somehow feel that manufacturers have neglected the entry level 7 seater (S)UV market.Cheers.
Not only in Tamil Nadu buddy, it's regaining its position in Bangalore too! Yes the gold is well accepted by the cabbies (DI version though) as well some private owners too!

If Qualis was still there in the market, Sumo would have been killed before it was launched only.
Damn this Toyota for stopping such a gem of a car
for that Matter even Bolero would have not seen much sales figures like the qualis.
I thought Tavera would replace the Qualis in the position, but somewhere somehow Mahindra cashed in by releasing the 2nd genration Bolero.
