The box is made of plastic, wood(MDF)will produce a better sound right?
It depends on sound insulation and liters of space available in Box. I don't think box material matters. A 500w RMS sub in a enclosure made specially by its specs can beat a 1000w RMS 12" sub in a enclosure not made to its specs. Generally speaking company made enclosure which comes loaded with subs have slightly better advantage to the same sub fitted to a custom box.

Thanks for the insight Sankar.

The volume of space in the enclosure should be more or less?
Depends on the subwoofer. I will explain with an example bro.

For Pioneer TS-W3002D2 is 12" Dual 2 ohm Champion PRO Series Car Subwoofer which is rated at 1000w RMS. The subwoofer's optimum sealed enclosure box size recommended is 0.8 cubic feet. Ported enclosure size optimum recommended is 1.2 cubic feet

But for Rockford Fosgate T1D212 which is 12" Dual 2 ohm Power T1 Series Car Subwoofer is rated onlt at 800w RMS. The subwoofer's optimum sealed enclosure box size recommended is 1.25 cubic feet. Ported enclosure size optimum recommended is 1.75 cubic feet. In fact RF sub is rated 200w lower than Pioneer sub but still needs a larger enclosure to perform as per manufacturer recommendations.

Subwoofer's enclosure box size solely depends on the subwoofer and as such it will perform to it's best when fitted to a box made exactly as per manufacturer recommendations which is why company fitted sub with enclosure in most times performs better to same sub in a custom box.

Material of the sub enclosure does matter due to resonance properties of diff materials, though it can be reduced using insulation materials but can't be eliminated completely until you spend huge amount of money.

MDF enclosures are best with minimal inslation(normal damping is sufficient).
One of my friend is avoiding Glass Fiber work in his linea for the same reason.

Very true but the finish that can be achieved in glass fiber enclosure cannot be reciprocated. Most demo car's stylish subwoofer enclosure and amp racks are styled using glass fiber. But MDF enclosure has the best output.

Getting a sub and then design a box as per manufacturers specs would be the best way to go, right?

Sankar if I am not mistaken, the fiber glass is only the top portion of the enclosure. The base is MDF.

Yes that would be the most appropriate way. You would get the best sound from your sub.

Do all manufacturers provide dimensions for us to build a sub box or is this info present on their site.If not how do we calculate the dimensions?

Yes, almost all reputed ones have a spec sheet in the box. If you still don't find the exact dimensions then better to consult a reputed installer.

Hey guys I have installed a jbl subwooder (275 rms) with 2 channels of gt x646 amp hooked to it*(the other 2 channels are for the rear rf speakers [:D]). At loud volumes the rear tray starts vibrating , which produces a very irritating sound. It just spoils the awesome bass quality! Is there any way to fix this?
