Hey Neil
I have Hertz EP2 2 channel amp for my polk db series sub. The amp has the provision to directly connect it to the HU without Hi-Low convertor. Now i am making my mind to replace this 2 channel amp with mono amp to have that punchy sound. Please suggest good mono amp for my polk sub.

I watched your video. Man i want the same kind of sound. But dont you fill the vibrations in the car. Have you done damping?

hertz ep2 has specs of 190w rms when bridged.
your db sub (i guess its 12 inch db1240) , then it can handle 360w rms.
only half power you are providing.

some amps you can try-
Kicker zx400.1
Rockford R500.1
JBL GTO 3501
(i dont have idea about price for first two but jbl you will get easily for 10k)

it's better to get more powerful monoblock , then your sub specs(rms) , as you can keep gains at low in amp and avoid overheating. for you 500 rms @ 2 ohm amp will be good.

ya i feel so much vibrations in car.[:D]
not the other vibrating sounds due to jarring. I have sorted out that problem. My plank was vibrating , n i opened the rear seats and stuffed it with sponges from below and sunglass holder too i did some jugad.no noticable vibrating sounds in car now.
I have not done damping.

@sandy
and ya post the pic of your sub with box..
and wiring near amp like i posted.
Is your sub SVC or DVC?
Thank you Neil for your reply.
Righ now my car is not with me. My dad has taken her to nasik where i have installed these stuffs. So i dont have photos of my sub and amp. Secondly my laptop is not working so couldnt upload the photos. Right now i am using office PC for communication with you.
My sub is DVC. But what is mean by DVC? Which is better SVC or DVC?

Do you feel the gap between Boot door and boot has been enlarged due to sub vibration. I am feeling this. Other My number plate was vibrating due to sub but now i have placed bed sheet underneath the sub and vibrating of number plate gone.
I will try to post photos of my sub and amp as early as possible.

DVC(Dual voice coil) is good for monoblocks.
For 2 ch amp ,SVC(single voice coil) is good.

The reason you are not getting punch is ,
your sub is DVC 4 ohm , connected in series(you cant connect 4 ohm DVC in parallel with 2 ch amp -if so it would have been blown by the time) ,

So , in series your sub has 4+4 = 8 ohm impedence.
Now because it's 2 ch amp , it's bridged so impedence becomes half here.

So final impedence of your sub is 8/2 = 4
now at 4 ohm your amp will provide very less power.

I dont feel gap is increased. it's very hard to bend metal by sound waves i guess.
Use double tape to stick number plate and then screw it. it will be fine.

Thanks neil for your explanation. Are you electronic engineer. the way you put the ohm theory i thought it.
Can SVC sub be attached to mono amp. I am not sure whether my sub is DVC or SVC. Today i am going to Nasik and will check everything. Will get by to you after that.
So what is best sub at 2 ohm or 4 & 8 ohm. I will read all the manuals that came with sub and amp.

I am medical student , currently in final year MBBS.
Though physics was my favorite subject in school , had to choose this career because of my dad.
and ICE'ing is my hobby since i got my first car honda city 2 years back and since then am learning stuff from internet.
i dont know anything else about electricals except this few ICE things. [lol]

ya you can attach SVC sub with monoamp. my infinity sub was SVC.

the only thing to remember is only 4 ohm DVC subs are --NOT-- good with 4 CH amp.
but DVC 2 ohm or DVC 8 ohm sub can be connected for good output with 4 ch amp too.

monoamp you can connect almost any sub upto how much ohm your amp is stable.

Get p3d412 if you are going for monoamp.
or powerful kicker sub.
dont go for jbl, sony, pioneer sub. even infinity dont hit low notes.

check wiring is done like this -

i think when you increase volume from HU , the sub needs more power to run at that volume but your amp is smaller and not able to provide that much power which leads to overheating of amp and may be its going to protect more until it cool down below thresold. As soon as the amp temperature goes below the safe thresold , amp automatically starts again.

i had similar sony 4 ch amp (80 rms X 4) in my old car with Sony sub , and i was facing same problem due to overheating. but after i changed amp to JBL i never had problem.

if problem persists take assistance of any ICE guru or professional guy.
it's not good to run amp and sub facing this problems. it will get damaged.

and decrease your gain slightly below max from amp.

what about monoamp? you found any?

This time the amp was working well till i switched on the AC. Firstly i didnot realised it but after some time i came to know that the amp mis again got off. Dont know but it might be due to AC ON.
As you said the amp goes in protecting mode when overheating and after cooling it starts automatically. But in my case this dont happen. The amp remains off. This time the gain was kept at below maximum.

I will ask my dealer to replace this amp with mono with price difference. Lets see if he agrees or not? I have not enquired about the mono but i will see if the dealer can avail the monos that you suggested me.

Hertz amps are very prone to failure(sply heat failures) and I had mentioned this in some thread too (dont remember which one). I'o change you to change your amp to JBL/Kenny/RF. They are much better amps.

Oh man why you not advised me this before. I am fade up with this Hertz amp. I have replaced this amp 3 times. Whenever i go to the dealer with the problem, he replaces it and problem again arises after few days. But this time i will not spare him. Which mono(with model no.) is suitable for my amp?

he must replace this amp or solve this prob. it's not acceptable where you paid this much money.
get the monoamp in replacement (even if you have to pay little more ) , it will be better for you to get rid of this.

Get any of the brand freakdude said.
RF amps are so good that it is used in many demo and spl cars. Even SMD uses RF amps to run his 4 huge 18 inch subs 5000 watts each.
And JBL but GTO series(not the cheaper one gtx) easy to get in india and worth the money. I dont have single problem in both amps.

for you JBL GTO3501 is good.
In RF - R500.1 or P400.1 if you get it from dealer.(i dont think they will have this models)

this ICE dealers , when we are buying stuff from them , they says dont worry sir , if you have any problem in future , come to me i will solve 100%. And we buy from them , when the problem comes , they simply dont want to solve it or replace it trying to prove it's our fault.
My infinity sub , i have been calling him since almost 3 weeks , he always says call me tomorrow.
I am more happy that i bought my new sub from ebay and not from this stupid unreliable dealers.

I guess you mean which amp for your sub? I see you have a Polk DB1240. Buddy it is a fantastic SQ sub. If you have a HU with TA then this sub can do wonders in your setup. But, this one needs absolutely clean power to be musical. So, for amps I would suggest you have an audition of JBL 3501. Also, have a look at RF 2-ch amp (forgot the model) you can bridge them to drive your sub. My choice would be RF for their absolute clean power.

If you are open to higher-end options then look at models from DLS, Infinity also.
