Are you sure they have an extra coating. Most are just built out of composites and they are tuned to play in open environs of a boat.So they will sounds much more brighter and clearer.

Lets see, what Sankar has to comment about the SQ.

Yeah buddy, the voice coil has a very very thin coating.[glasses] For sure they are very bright as they need to be heard in open but SQ wise they are just a tad below than the non-marine ones.

Well, that is why they are termed as Marine speakers. Why I wondered is that these are not something you easily buy off a shelf from ICE shops. These are sourced and are are not used in India as the amount of people having their boats is less. So, just wanted to check if someone has just sold them to sankar telling some sweet stories like "these are special speakers.." etc and has he been duped for a premium for these speakers.
Nothing like that bro. Just wanted DB6501 as i auditioned them here and was blwon offby the bass the reproduced. Yes Marine speakers are a bit hard to source in India.I bargained with the dealer who sold me these speakers saying they will have lower SQ to their ordinary counter parts. Got them at 6k including shipping at door step. So got a great deal for such good VFM speakers. Regarding SQ they are pretty good and doesn't sound that bright. Their bass production is still spot on and beats by rainbows hands down.

Why settled for a lower SQ driver when you could have got the normal ones. Also, believe me buddy, in the same price range Rainbows smoke Polks anyday anysong any frequency range. Rainbows are one of the most natural laid back ones.

Its not marine speakers, its just marine certified hence it can be used on boats.Meaning it has some amount of rust protection from the salty water.
I think Marine speakers and marine certified speakers are the same.

For someone who doesn't know that these are more or less just like normal speakers, they surely can get duped. These would be a bit expensive than normal ones but not astronomically. These will last a lot longer too and sound much better too.
Marine speakers would last way longer than normal speakers but regarding SQ they are a bit lower compared to regular ones. In my case i am looking at bass from my rear speakers for which these would be perfect. You need to hear them to believe their bass reproduction.

Lasting longer could be true, could be. But sounding better is wrong. The extra coating on the voice coil actually reduces the impedance and increases resistance and hence these have a sound signature a bit inferior to the non-marine similar ones.
In case of Polk DB6501 it doesn't have that much of coating to protect it from salty marine conditions. Many have used them in car audio setups and found them to be better than even Focal Polyglass 165. In my case i am looking at a stylish components which can produce some good bass.

Lets see, what Sankar has to comment about the SQ.
I have an excellent SQ speakers in terms of Rainbow components for my front stage and i wanted something which would give me some good bass at reasonable rate. Considered 6X9 but the Infinity references series 6X9 coaxial i auditioned seemed to be overpowering my Rainbows components. Also i wanted the SQ of rainbows to stand out. Also i planned to power the Rainbows and Polk components with class AB channel amplifier from DD Audio which pumps out good power with absolute SQ. So 6X9 was not an option. With these polk the bass production is good and doesn't over power my front stage at all.

Why settled for a lower SQ driver when you could have got the normal ones. Also, believe me buddy, in the same price range Rainbows smoke Polks anyday anysong any frequency range. Rainbows are one of the most natural laid back ones.
You won't get a Rainbow components for 6k mate. Polks that i bought cost me 6k including shipping to my door step which means actual cost of speakers comes around 5.5k for which you wouldn't get a Rainbow components.

Rainbow components are all about SQ and after hearing them for 4 months what i can say about Rainbows are they sound very natural but their bass reproduction is very low. My new Polk compos cost 1/4th of my rainbow components but beats my Rainbow components hands down in bass reproduction. If you compare SQ and Natural sound production my rainbows are far ahead to Polk DB6501. My aim was to fill some bass in my rear and after auditioning different components like Infinity, JBL and Polk i selected Polk DB6501.

I will be going active with my Rainbows shortly once i find the suitable active crossover.

My current shortlisted crossovers are:-

Hifonics HFXR
Clarion MCD360
Kicker KX2

Once i import my active crossover and power my Rainbows completely active then i am sure the Rainbows will surely overpower everything else in my setup[:D]

Sankar

The boot is looking awesome buddy, the only eyesore being the sub wire. Just hide it underneath the carpet. Also, vacuum the boot to make it clean. [clap]

I saw that you are looking out for XOs. I'd suggest that rather than them, get a Bit 10 D. It's a gem, period. Also, don't mix subs, plan for the same sub that you already have else you might see wave cancellations as different subs oscillate differently.

Isn't Bit Ten an Sound Processor? Actually i don't want a sound processor. I want an active crossover through which i will power my Rainbow active. I thought people go for Bit Ten he they wanted to retain OEM HU and when these OEM HU are low on SQ they use Bit Ten to manipulate the signals.

If i go for the Infinity Kappa subwoofer will my setup sound very differently? What will happen if i play both my Focal sub and infinity sub together? What is a wave cancellation?

I plan to slowly remove my focal P-30 sub and move to 2 infinity subwoofer. But due to budget i will only upgrade in a step by step process. First i will buy one infinity sub for now then after 2-3 months replace the focal sub to infinity as well. I want to know during these upgrade period for 2-3 months facl sub and infinity sub would play together. How different will be the sound signature?

Sankar
