Re: “Thunderbolt” Mahindra XUV5OO Detailed Review (3 Years Report)

3. Very poor FE only 10.8 KMPL
Are you getting the same performance since the turbo replacement?
2. Rear Brake pads have lasted 64.7 Kms.
Impressive given your 'Run & Gun style'.
4. Thinking about K&N filter
What say folks?
I switched to K&N at 20K Kms and there is no looking back. Infact, the Dieseltronic is able to fully utilize the benefits of K&N in my Pajero Sport. Even without Dieseltronic, I used to clean the stock air-filter at alternate tank full (almost every 1000 Kms) to keep the performance going strong but with K&N, I clean it between 7,500 to 10,000 Kms.
6. Upon Raising The Vehicle, I found that Underbody Guard was MISSING!.
Somethings never improve - it was as if I was reading my experience with Mahindra service from a decade back.

1. Performance is 5 Percent lesser after replacement if you watch too closely, Like a perfectionist. Its almost in the Margin of error if you consider that Air temperatures these days are warmer than in November/December (When turbo was faulty).

All other gears are normal, But We don't get pushed back in seats In 3rd gear like before. Only that perk is missing.

2. Sir its not Actually run & gun. But most people think that way. Actually a lot of Planning & Mathematics goes before every overtake and every shift. If I sense slightest risk, I ease off.
A rash taxi would VERY easily beat me in traffic & bad roads.

Rear Brake Pads- 64.7K Kms (M&M estimate 40~50k)
Front Brake pads- 35K km (M&M estimate 20k)

3. I'll think about K&N after this FE issue is solved. You shouldn't put a sick man on Steroids and expect proper results. Seems Correct?

After service with new filters, ideally it should be 5% more. So something is definitely wrong. Do you have a phone based OBD reader to check if there is any error code registered in ECU?
Sir its not Actually run & gun
No offense but I had merely reproduced the phrase written by you. Still rear brake pads lasting for 64.7K with whatever the style is simply amazing.

Sometimes putting a sick man on steroids is the only way out [;)]

If that is the case with offence, then i have one humble request your way - your posts tend to be factual and passionate , however your posts around speeding don't set a good precedent , discussing 160-180kmph on indian roads is like promoting euthanasia to healthy people - my only humble request is to avoid it - and also avoid such driving habits for your own safety and family. no offence please , cheers!

My front brake pads havent been changed yet, its close to 46k for the fronts as they were changed after around 10-12k because of the grinding noise, the rear are stock and closing 59k.

No Problem sirji.
Everyone has his own style. I don't need any effort to do that. My Subconscious self drives along.
I will take in your suggestion though.

I'll make a mileage run and let you know. (I hope I really remember and not let my subconscious take over). I have also given a Reset to ECU by disconnecting Negative wire as some experts suggested. Should help my FE problem a bit. Tomorrow morning we are starting at 4 in the morning for Bhopal. I guess I can make a mileage run in 1st wee hours to be safe. What say?

I hope you set a new records. Do keep us posted.
I guess optimus is Trouble free and running well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I frankly didn't find handiRack as safe.
First issue is that Straps/Luggage will rub on the roof, Destroying paint and causing scratches.
Second issue is about how safe will it be, considering crosswinds and all. HandiRack looks more like fancy straps used to TIE luggage on the roof. I do not see the RACK part at all.

Please elaborate on above points.

I forgot to click my Tarkarli trip photo to add. It was 4 big bag and 2 laptop backpack. I used it almost 6-7 time in last 16 months now and didn't find any single paint scratch on my XUV. It's Nylon based strip.

I managed 130-140 max in my trip as kids were on board and it was steady in both way. No issue at all for it.

I bought 2 extra 3 meters Nylon Strip locks and it's become more steady. :)

Ironically, I haven't used Roof rack even once (Other than for trying it) in all these 4 years. Reason is we mostly travel 3~4 people max. Maybe I won't even install it anymore.

Install is a 10 min job literally.

Yeah, it's hardly take 10-15 minutes to start from scratch to tie all things properly. Just buy couple of extra Nylon strip for safer side, rest all works fine . :)
