Re: “Thunderbolt” Mahindra XUV5OO Detailed Review (3 Years Report)
“Thunderbolt” Mahindra XUV5OO 60,000 KM service & Tyre change
Service Experience-
We reached the dealership Jeetendra Motors Nashik at 9.30. Were greeted by Mr Amol and we got to work quite quickly. SA suggested to get a Small service done which costs about 3.5k. It mostly involves Inspection, Top ups, Suspension check, Brakes check & Underbody Re-torquing. Le me Explain Point wise-
1> Overall Inspection & Service
Done
2> Air Filter, Cabin Filter Check & Clean
Air Filter works for 40k Kms. Shall be replaced at 80k Now.
AC filters replaced worth 1040 Rs.
3> Driver side AC not working
Some "AC Discharge flow pipe" was leaked. The pipe is in an awkward position in Engine bay (Which component in XUV isn't?). The leakage caused gas to escape causing poor cooling. As cooling starts from Left Vents, I was getting some cooling there. Driver side vents are last it seems, Not getting any cooling.
Some cool facts-
XUV has 1 compressor, 2 Evaporator coils, 2 Blowers.
Middle Row cooling is the weakest, by design.
Compressor is 90cc, The gas is R134A, 800 Grams.
The Pipe Replacement & Gas Charging was carried in warranty, No fuss. Charges outside Warranty would be - 4.5k
We were thankful that Fault wasnt inside dashboard coils. The dash teardown takes 2 days as per SA
4> Stuck Sunglasses
Removed
5> PUC Coupon
Done as per Purple club offer
6> Tyres
See below
7> Infotainment Software Update, GPS MAP Update
I'm on the latest version.
8> Water entry
Could'nt find during pressure wash. Also, during the rains on way home, there was no leaks. I will take a Video next time if spotted.
9> TPMS learning.
Learning done.
Tyre Upgrade-
The Dealership was hell bent on installing Bridgestones. Seeing the tread, Nah! Never. The Tread so so mild that it looks very feminine. A small car thread. Since this time, I was adamant on Finding some nice meaty ATs for the cheetah, I started hunting. I called a lot of people from Justidial asking about tyres. In about an Hour, I had a dozen of quotations in my hand.
I found one Person who seemed to understand what I wanted.
Mr Anand Sejpal from Nashik Tyre world. He had quite a collection of AT tyres in XUV Factory size (235/65/R17).
The Options were-
Ceat Czar AT
Falken Wildpeak AT01
Hankook
Of course there were way too many HTs which i did'nt bother to look.
I really liked the aggressive, Blocky thread of FALKEN WILDPEAK AT and went ahed with them. The cost was 12k per tyre, Alignment, balancing, nitrogen etc was Free. I will Recommend Nashik Tyre world for their neat prices and no fuss service.
Inital Impressions-
The macho Looks Aside, Tyres grip really well. Wet handling & Braking was superb.
Sidewalls are stiffer, which mean ride is more taunt. Not very good when you're flying over small potholes & patches. This was expected when going from HT to AT.
One thing that stunned me was, Smoothness! And My oh my!
140 happens naturally & you know it only after looking at the speedo.
We attained a Maximum of x80 KMPH on Empty roads and the firmer sidewalls with Rigid construction really helps handling & Road manners. On really Straight, levelled roads, I'm confident The cheetah could do 150 all day.
Else,
The Notion that one can be travelling just 10KMPH shy of Terminal velocity (earth's terminal Velocity is 190 KMPH) makes your hair stand on the back of neck. Hat's off to Mr. Anand mahindra & his team for Giving us a Sub 20 lac vehicle that can do Terminal Velocity!
