Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

Hey bro, X3 tyre size is 235 /60 R17 and yes they are still stock. Dad plans to change them to michelins once they wear out. Though thats still a long time away. Yes cars with to much increased tyre size comparative to their stock ones do scrape a lot. Not the underbody, but the tyres hitting the body. Hope I was helpful.
Wow, X3 has smaller tyres than XUV.

Anyways, I am surfing since morning browsing the sites of Yokohama, Bridgestone, JK, Goodyear, Apollo etc.. NOT ONE has proper AT tyre in 235/65 R17. Only simple HT tyres in that size. However good many tyres in 265/65 Fortuner size. That's my problem.

P.s- I've had bad experience with Michellins in Rough Indian Terrain.

Dear BHVM,
I can very well understand what you intend to achieve and why you are desperate for little bit oversizing.I don't want to disappoint you but I am afraid fortuner tyre will rub against brake shoe warning wire which has been not put up in secure way, especially in the the front tyres.Just rough washing without care will dislodge the wires and will put up warning on the infotainment display!!At the back, there is not even a cm of space for even the fingers,(I hurt mine while trying to rotate the tyres while fitting them back after a puncture).
The suspension components (more than one)will rub the tyre or the alloy as soon you upsize them.Though I have seen different tyre size on the W6 xuv, but they were thicker and with even lesser side wall height, eventually making them protruding out and looking ugly on such a nice vehicle. This will( ie undersizing just for the heck of it) will further decrease the G.C.
But even after all the above scaring suggestions I WANT MORE G.C ON MY XUV AND WOULD LOVE IT AND FOLLOW IT IF YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL.
best of luck if you try it out.

dear mayank.
1. oh yes I remember that thin yellow wire when brake pads were replaced. it felt fragile and not properly designed.

2. one option could be to use spacer rings to prevent rubbing(bring wheels out ). however the car may end up looking stupid and turning Radius will increase.

3. perhaps the best option is to swap out tyres from my fortuner and drive around with them for a week or so. that's should answer everything.

however will dad allow it is a challenge.

I forgot. You have a fortuner too. Well, in that case I would have tried this a long time ago when everything is already in-house.Of Course I would tell everybody only if I was successful!!

Dear Friends,
Thunderbolt Just returned from a long 17-day trip to Rajasthan/Gujrat.

The ODO now stands at 48k Kms. And I require your opinion regarding service. I got the 40k Kms Service done early at 36k Kms due to my Trip schedule. So now I am thinking to get the 50K Kms service done. The Infotainment is throwing tantrums regarding service.

Shall I change Oil too? I mean shall I make 60k Kms service a bit early this time? (Which is major service)

The vehicle also needs new tyres within 4k Kms. However Nothing good is available in 235/65/R17 SO I am planning to go for 265/65/R17 which has decent options in AT segment. I have not able to gain any concrete information regarding the same.

Here are my Report on the Vehicle after return-
1> One of the High beam bulb has blown
2> Engine has opened up even more. Now I am able to do 50 KMPH in 5th gear at Just 1000 RPM without any throttle inputs. The way it does "50>>>130" in few seconds in 4th gear has me amazed.
3> The engine cooling fan appears noisy now.
4> Infotainment still resets sometimes.
5> The factory clutch is still working like new. No changes noted.
6> Sun shades are working very well. But is a nuisance when we need to pay toll or open windows.
7> GPS could not find small towns in Rajasthan and ended up misguiding parents. The good'ol indian method of rolling down windows & asking worked.
8> Wonderful performance/Comfort/Reliability and nothing more to report.

P.s-
The only tyre option i've found is this-
http://tires.tirerack.com/tires/Goodyear Wrangler Hp 235 65 17
Still not satisfied

Again bhvm warning you,be 100% sure, than only up-size the tires. TPMS,as well as speedometer and infotainment display related to Tyre circumference and speed, everything will go haywire.Speed and average, and DTE calculations will show error. Ride will become hard and bouncy on AT tires ,and they are noisy too.

mate. I've been using AT tyres since ages on other vehicles. I sorely miss them on xuv. I don't know why mahindra used an odd size where no AT tyres are available.

Oil changes arent required in xuv uptill 20k kms as per company guidelines. i think you can skip the oil change for now, and just ask for a top up of engine oil if required. get the 50k service done not the 60k service.

regarding tyres does xuv have enough space in the front to accomodate 265 section? the tpms will show continuous error apart from that the speed and fuel calculation will be a little off.

265 section does have some good options. Wil it go on the existing rims?

Thanks,
I shall get the regular 50k Kms service done.
About 265 tyres, I am on the same questions. There is only One person on TBHP which has installed 265 tyres but he's running aftermarket alloys.

I don't think TPMS will show alarms. What it does is monitor Air pressure, not tyre size or RPM. There maybe some speedo error but todays vehicles already have a negative speedo -4% so this should bring the speedo back to normal (GPS Speeds).

No I am not a member there. That XUV has been tooo much loaded with chrome. He has those" prone to breakage" speed alloys. Those alloys have bad history.

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

you have to rule out rat bite, low battery ,hooter wire disconnection and infotainment reset first. The answer might be within these 4 points.
