Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Audio, LED, HID, Mods++)

I actually found the service costs to be bearable compared to Fortuner, Where the Front wiper blades alone cost 3k. Front Brake pads wear out on EACH service and cost 5k

My service cost this time was 17k Service+ 30k Warranty. Huge expense of 47k. I avoided the tyres otherwise bills would've gone to 1 lac+

I'm also provocatively changing oils every 15k kms and getting filters changed, Otherwise service bills would come down to 10~12k.

I have NO reply as of yet on tyres. SVC suggested Bridgestone HT for approx 15.5k per tyre. The tread pattern is very soft and car-like. Decided to flip,Align,Balance the presend tyres and delayed till 6 months now.
My current brake pads are on since the last 20k, i dont see the need to replace it every service unless your running is really high and you are heavy on brakes - yes you are right though front ones wear faster.

Bridgestone ones are very decent, they are not high performance oriented like michelin, but there are puncture resistant and hardy, have a long life, but the thing is they develop cracks in longer usage and harden. ex:- you can do nearly 90k or more on it in say 2-3 years easy, from 4th/5th year you will see them hardening and small cracks developing. I would recommend bridgestone to those who do a lot of running in a shorter period of time.

Dear IR,
1> Pardon for the confusion. I was comparing Fortuner vs XUV maintainance.
Fortuner Wiper blades cost 3k to replace and Brakes wear out on each damm service.
Comparatively XUV brake pads last longer. I was frankly astonished that rear brake pads on XUV can last 50k Kms an beyond!

2> Yes I do have bridgestones B250 on my i10. Lots of small cracks have developed. Also they've gone hard which means grip is not as great. I need a tyre which is optimized for less running and more years. My Stock JKs are in 3rd year and may last anywhere from 6m~1yr depending on run. Please suggest.

Thunderbolt made about 1000km of Travel this week, 95% Highway travel.
The FE (as per MID) varied from 15.1 KMPL on sedate highway stretches to about 11.2 KMPL on Run and Gun chases on 6 lanes. I was able to curise the beast constantly at 140 on some newer highways which left me impressed.

The Infotainment did not reset these 1000km, but I wll reserve my comment only after further testing.

Some kind of SUMP_SUMP_BUMP noise has returned from the rear suspension (only on speed breakers) which was not present before servicing. Also the MID shows "Service Due", Probably they forgot to update the ECU.

All is well else.

Looks like your rear suspension was overhauled during the service. that kind of noise came in my XUV as well while going over breakers when the vehicle was new.

Hmm, Yes.
The same happened at 20k Kms service, The noise subsided 5k kms later automtically. I guess they overtightened something. Should I be worried?

The JK tyres are holding well as of yet. The Brakes worked wonderfully when I suddenly saw some Unmarked speed breakers at 100 Kph.

Hi bhvm, came across a video of this guy driving a white XUV and racing and overtaking an Audi Q5 at high speed. Is that yours? I saw that you said you have overtaken many fast cars in your XUV.

I also saw a video of a White XUV overtaking a Merc C class on the Pune-Mumbai expressway, speeds in excess of 190.

Must be bhvm for sure then [lol] . Considering the bold claims made by him about XUV (actually all of them are true) It must be him trying to verify them :stupid:

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Audio, LED, HID, Mods++)

yes I have seen both videos,

ironically none are mine. the Audi q5 tdi one has some nice commentary in proper Bangalorean accent.

I think top speed of xuv on a lengthy stretch of empty road is about 205-210, which is a rarity in India.
doing 190 is much easier. I think a pete'd xuv shall do 230 which is in line of 2.0L BMW and audis.

sir IW, I don't even have YouTube account or whatever that is.

Good to know that, goes to show that you follow traffic rules. Anyways me, icewise and kinshuk wouldnt have mind if that was you cause in both vids the guy is trying his best to outrun both cars in which he surprisingly succeeds. Yes a Pete'd XUV can easily do 230 and reach it faster than our X3. Reason? The aerodynamics. In any top speed video of X3 the car becomes really slow after 190 and takes amlong while to cross 200. BTW, when are you getting your XUV Pete'd?

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Audio, LED, HID, Mods++)

Hello CLJ,
I just paid 30k for extended warranty so putting some halt on the mods. maybe 5th year onwards ill go full blast. meanwhile many options are Opening up along with petes like tune o tronics, race dynamics etc. perhaps a larger Turbo, tuned exhaust, fatter tyres. etc will be required to attain the insane speed boost. my target would be about 200 bhp with 430nm of torque.

it would be the ultimate dream come true to drive xuv at 230,as you can see most of the world's best SUV top out near 230 top end. I guess even Anand Mahindra would be stunned with this. 15 lac daily driver competing against 80-90 lac premium vehicles.

see this-
Audi Q7 vs BMW X5 vs Volvo XC90 vs Mercedes GL

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Audio, LED, HID, Mods++)

reverse horn just conked off , which was replaced in warranty. it took Mahindra almost 3 years to sort out infotainment reset problem, it costs 75k to replace out of warranty.
horror stories of clutch failure are still in the air.
general issue that owners are facing (apart from above ) are headlamp LED going bad/ flickering
Power steering failure
fuel pipes leak
ecu problems
cabin lamps fusing
ac blower conking off.
security hooter failing /falling off.
headlamp bulbs fusing rapidly

god knows what may come. fixing even a simple puncture is tough job in xuv.
