Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

Both low and high beams are H7.
I have replaced my high beams with Osram unlimited.
Thats great. Atleast H7 is a common Bulb.
I checked the Osrams, They are about 2.2k a set. Way too expensive and into the HID territory! Are you thinking what Im thinking? [evil]

True but problem is about fitting HID to those reflectors. I saw one XUV in bangalore, really horrible. Vehicle was parked on side of a 6 lane road, almost all lanes are invisible. I feel a quiter upgrade to high beams can be those Osrams or better to fit additional hella type lights to bumper and switch on as and when required.

By the way, you have any idea about roof mounted lights for XUV ? Is there anything possible without drilling the roof. Actually im looking in to something which can be used only for flashing (dipper) which can be fixed on roof and operated with inbuilt battery. A small wireless module to trigger ON/oFF so that no wiring is required.

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

Hello all,
Thunderbolt just made a Trip to Gujrat. We drove on a huge variety of Roads, Including Surat-deathway and some nice new 6 Lane parts. We also had a heavenly cruise of 140~160 KMPH continious. A layman would be surprised how Silent and Refiened XUV feels at 140. I mean, till someone takes a peek at speedometer, it feels like doing 100~120 in Normal cars.

The overall Fuel efficiency was 12KMPL. Top speed was 165.
Some of the speed breakers were so tall that XUV mud flaps do scrape a Bit, and my heart skips a beat [frustration]. I wonder how Small cars manage to pass. Also, Tolls are still applicable in Gujrat (tolls are free in Maharashtra now).

Also, What impressed me were the HIDs.
High beams are much less of a necessity now. Also, I do not need the Fogs these days. FOG+LOW beam HID is almost too bright. I can now drive on the Low beam HID alone, which used to be impossible with Halogens.

Dear TM,
My high beams are already augmented with LED high beam assists. They're actually brighter than stock high beams by themselves. But I use them only rarely. About Roof yes, I got that thought yesterday. I wish to add a 30 Inch LED lightbar on the roof to teach those High-beamers a lesson. However, Wiring and mods in XUV is hell.

I am not thinking to install HID in High beam Unless i solve the Start-Restart Problem. HIDs hate Starts and can kill them quickly. Lets think....[confused]

I will suggest you stay away from any Battery powered Lights. Illumination will be very poor and charging battery everyday is such a chore.

PS- All XUV owners and High end vehicles in general. Please DO NOT INSTALL BUMPERS. It hampers the work of Airbag sensor and Other Safety sensors. This may cause the Airbag to not deploy or wrongly deploy. Also, DO NOT INSTALL Searcovers in XUV as there are airbags in seats too.

1. as said. it's all marketing. difference will be minor.
2. the prices you got are excellent. I'm not always lucky as prices are very expensive here. I too have HID in my fortuner low beams
3..I'm tired of telling everyone that 4300k is the best HID available. people are just crazy about 6000k and 8000k lamps.
good choice.
Yes buddy that's true the best HID is the 4300K because it never gets vanished under the street lights and does not drop the visibility on wet roads or driving during rains.
So shall I just go to dealership and get the bulb replaced (OEM) or shall I go ahead with OSRAM, what's your say on this?

Let me know next time if you need the HID kit (P8), I can ship to you from here.
Got the bulb changed from the dealer itself and the total cost was I guess Rs 310/-. I thought that I have to upgrade to HID's anyways so why put 1000 buck on bulbs.

Also attaching the original bulb pics bro.

I hope Osram serves me better. I am not getting time for the upgrade buddy. And I don't have to order the HID's. They are easily available in the market here.
Also got my tires changed last week. So put the HID's on hold for a bit. [;)]

hello sting,
actually not getting enough time to spend with my wheels. thunderbolt hasn't been driven since my last update. launched a new educational institute so getting extremely busy.

night shots are on the list this Sunday. I've also made a high beam assist led for i10 but mounting is pending.

did you go back to halogens? Man it's difficult to do that. hid is sooo addictive. I'm looking forward to using my 5000k & 6000k hid in household chandelier (Solar 12v Powered)

Hey @bhvm I have one question-
I have read a lot about the turbo kick that one gets after ~1500 RPM when the turbo starts spooling, In my case i havent felt any such kick as of yet. Also i am not able to hear any turbo hiss . This is my first diesel car and i am not able to make out the turbo noise. I do not have any benchmark to compare it to so cant say if the power delivered is less or no.
So is it possible that the turbo is not spooling?

the turbo respose is really sweet sounding and hard to miss. it's like a small. rocket taking off. I guess yours is New vehicle? don't worry for the First 10k kms. engine opens up nicely after that.

one of the Turbo temptations Is doing 30-80 in 3rd gear. the pull is fantastic!

BTW, where's your ownership thread?

to feel the turbo get into 2nd gear and push all the way upto 4000 rpm then shift to 3rd and do the same.

In that time you will as if you are being pulled by a train engine or 30-40% pull of a plane while take off.

@Bhvm: he has an ownership thread.
P.S. His is another red on TAI in Pune.

The train Example is really nice. it got me smiling!
However I still don't remember his Beast.

Repaired? Can you explain me in details about it? I never thought HID can be "repaired". For OEM quality kit, try contacting the person i mentioned in early post. You can tell him about TAI, he will recognize. Also, I have never seen a 3.3k kit. It would be an interesting buy! What i've seen are 3k kits which are lemon yellow (too yellow for my liking). I went with the same 4300k for fogs, Gives a nice matched look.

______________

Anyways people, I came up with a Makeshift option to prevent XUV Door hitting the poor blue boy. Its a simple 3M foam tape in 2 layers to add protection. I will add some white tape on it to hide bold red color.
