Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

the turbo respose is really sweet sounding and hard to miss. it's like a small. rocket taking off. I guess yours is New vehicle? don't worry for the First 10k kms. engine opens up nicely after that.

one of the Turbo temptations Is doing 30-80 in 3rd gear. the pull is fantastic!

BTW, where's your ownership thread?
http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...mahindra-xuv500-last-hurrah-muscular-xuv.html

here it is..[clap] and ya mine has just crossed 1300KM and still in run in period. Buy ya would love to do that soon.[evil]

to feel the turbo get into 2nd gear and push all the way upto 4000 rpm then shift to 3rd and do the same.

In that time you will as if you are being pulled by a train engine or 30-40% pull of a plane while take off.

@Bhvm: he has an ownership thread.
P.S. His is another red on TAI in Pune.
I have been driving zen estilo for past 7 years so turbo boost or no turbo boost this still feels like a fright train pulling even till 2K RPM. I havent touched more than 2300RPM as of yet as it is still in break in . But ya would definitely try this after my first servicing.

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

thunderbolt had a 120km trip to nearby city on a rainy night. all was good until both the high beam bulbs decided to fuse at the same time! stupid bulbs.

hence, our return were the low beam HID and high beams assists led. one thing is clear is that led didn't give enough punch to drive in rain all by itself. so we were limited to lazy speeds around 50-60. I ended up following a santro which helped me avoid any sudden potholes/speedbreakers.

low beam hid by themselves were sufficient unless a highbeamer blinded me off.

both high beams gone!! i think it cant be due to bulbs then, it could be some electrical issues too..

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

it's the bulbs mate. because my LED high beam assists, which are on the same circuit still work.

I think last time I've also mentioned my high beam bulbs are going black... stupid incans!. I still haven't found time to swap them. perhaps this weekend.

I'm also looking forward to LED headlight kit (like HID KIT ) 3 types just rolled in. I'll study them and post a review.

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

the roof rack is removable. no drilling
however don't think you alone can do that. install time shall be half hour. you could just keep it on, I feel it actually adds to the manly look of SUV.
don't go for showroom ones! they're priced double!

else I'm thinking to add 2 off road lights, one each on the side of roof rack rods (front ones ). those rods protrude a bit too much for my linking. 3rd pic explains it very well. let's put them to good use. what say kinsuk?

for the fortuner, +100 to that! :-)
Where did you get that Prorack roof carrier? Is it easily available at local accessory shops?

Does it require cutting or drilling into black roof rails of XUV?

Roof rack was Brought from a Accessory dealer in Indore, near Railway station.
The cost was 6.3K with fitting.

There is NO Cutting or Modification required as It uses thumb clamps to grip into the Roof rails. The warranty is Intact.

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

Hello bhvm,

Faced a small problem yesterday. The cabin inside began to leak water after the vehicle was parked in the rains.

The leakage was coming from the Spectacle holder on the ceiling.

Has anybody else faced anything like that? Any ideas on how to find the leaking point?

regards,
Kinshu

This was the exact problem faced by me in my 3 mths new xuv. I showed it to the ASS.They pressure washed the roof beading and isolated the leakage problem. I was scared of the scratches and all so did a DIY. So far its holding up for 2 and a half years.

I don't face anything like that. however my vehicle is mostly parked in shade. however I've driven in storms sans any issues.

the best option is what mayank said. if they fail to.solve it, I would fill some silicone in the leak.

else, changed the high beam bulbs yesterday. about 3 hour job. had to undo the Battery, coolant reservoir, wash spray pipe, bonnet stick latch.

what else I saw that upgrading these bulbs to anything else is impossible as cornering bulbs are within mm of these bulb bases. so went with company provided oem 50w lamps. yes they're h7.

thunderbolt suffered it's First puncture yesterday,
due to a nail. thankfully the tire went flat when
vehicle parked. rear left wheel.
I opted to fill hot rubber and repair the tyre
permanently. few people know that using strings or
plugs is a temporary way to repair a tubeless tyre
puncture. many people keep riding tyre with just
plugs or patches. that's unsafe.
filling hot rubber makes it safer and more
permanent.
I paid 500 for repair. 50 for fitting.

else,
the tires and looking suddenly worn out and could
need a replacement in 5k kms.
anyone has installed the fortuner 265/65 r17 tyres
on xuv? I'm looking for some height as bumpers
sometimes scrape on speedbeakers.

Wow what a thread Bhvm. You are a good writter and I have been reading your thread since last two hours. The way you do your DIY stuff was excellent. I was just wondering you didn't have any problems when you were claiming electronic parts in warranty period with all these modiications and additions of Hid, led?
Would love to read your updates on regular basis so please update your thread on regular basis.

welcome vdm,
I'm glad you liked my mods.
all the DIY I performed are while keeping in mind about warranty and originality of the car.

there's not one stray hole, wire cutting or permanent modification of any kind. even the lights I've fixed use clamps while other people will always drill holes.

thunderbolt just returned from a 300km trip. there is nothing much to report. brought new sun shades, the review here-

Hi bhvm, i would suggest not putting such huge tyre on XUV and they will surely look ugly also if Im not wrong then its illegal to drive with tyre protruding out.

thanks for dropping in clj,
the 265 tyres are just 15mm wider on each side compared to sock. the wheel arches are quite wide to accomodate them. however I would love to hear from someone if there could be rubbing/ scraping problems on the inside, esp with full load and full turn.

the reason for going to 265 is that you get great many AT choices in that size, being standard fortuner tyre.

BTW, what size is your x3 ? are you still running on stock rubber?

Hey bro, X3 tyre size is 235 /60 R17 and yes they are still stock. Dad plans to change them to michelins once they wear out. Though thats still a long time away. Yes cars with to much increased tyre size comparative to their stock ones do scrape a lot. Not the underbody, but the tyres hitting the body. Hope I was helpful.
