Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

I recently got SJ4000 and I am very happy with the clarity. Yet to test night recording. A cheaper alternate for Go-Pro [evil]

Here is the sample video

Great one. would help where stupid public just wants to beat up rather than pondering over facts.

I'm thinking to rig up an old Android phone this way. shouldn't be hard to do.

other Idea is if we could put a small inline recorder for rear cam. that way you'll have both sides covered.

I first thought of using Android phone but every time I start or stop the vehicle I don't want to start or stop recording. Also once memory is full, recycling mode should be present for dash cam. I guess there might be some Android App to do this, however I haven't searched much on it.

Regarding using reverse cam, I don't have the cam installed but was thinking of getting a cheaper VGA cam for rear.

Edit - Found this android app, sample.

Also I feel the reverse camera position would be too low for recording the facts. [roll]

1) one could use some sort of motion detection. Androids have all sorts of sensors built in. it's just a Matter of correct apps.

2) rear cam can show any rear end collisions.

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

All,

I have a query regarding the entertainment system on W8 model. Today, while doing a PDC using Team-Bhp Check list, I tried a USB drive on the entertainment system. I found that the system was reading only 6 folders of songs in the USB drive. I have more than 60 folder of songs in the USB drive.
Sales rep at Showroom of G3 Motors, Nerul was not sure of why it was so. He checked with XUV Service Lead at their service center. That service guy told there is a restriction in no of folder the entertainment system can read. However just 6 folders seems to be big surprise?
Service Lead suggested to have all song in same folder. However this is not practical. I would not want to move from song1 of movie 1 to song1 of another movie.

Any help from seasoned expert here on this. How has been the experience of others on no. of folders on USB drive that W8 entertainment system can read.

Nice sample. But can you post pics of how you have mounted camera in the vehicle?

How much memory does it take to record 3 min 1080p video?

I don't keep long list of folders instead create a tree structure with top level 3 - 4 parent folders and having similar number of sub folders, nested so on. I experienced XUV infotainment ignoring long list of folders. So this is my work around, might work for you as well :) As there are better things to worry, I did not care much about this :)

Thanks Suhas. [clap]

In fact I was trying to check the same thing ( sub folders) with the XUV Service Lead as well.

My Plan B is to use my IPod Classic for XUV. Anyways its not used else, so it could be good to store huge repository of songs in XUV, with easy to use features of IPod. [:)]

Cheers,
Balpreet

I have a similar structure on my main db. Parent folders by language, then by film.

At times, it does not show all the folders but max it reads a firs few set of folders. (page 1/1) though there are many folders :) Can you pull a picture of how you mounted the drive cam? Also, a word about the quality of pic especially under bumpy rides?

In 1080p it takes about 1GB for 10mins. I am using 16gb card which can hold a little more than 2 hours. The camera supports upto 32GB card.

I just have 1 photo right now.

wow Great. I guess 2 hours is more than enough as accidents are mere seconds. do let me know if you film a UFO with this though!!

however your device looks very large and obtrusive. or not?

UFA ? [lol]

Let me take some pictures from interior and share. I doesn't obstruct much, I have placed it right under the RVM, it should hardly matter. I am comfortable with it. Infact my mobile holder was obstructing view, so moved it towards passenger seat and it is comfortable now. [:)]

that would be great!
I wish companies I integrate front cams and merge them with night vision and collisions avoid tech. very much in need for India.

about UFO, I guess most of the sightings come from police cams or dash cams like yours
