Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

isnt it the same if you manually crank the car the same number of times with a key - i mean the detrimental impact on battery ?
exactly. this system causes 10 times the cranking than a regular car.

it reminds me of aggressive seagate ramp load issues particular model of Laptop hard drive. . the power saving was so aggressive that the hdd would spin down every minute or so. and when you made an activity it had to spin up again. it took the start count to few million in just 2 years. very bad impact on life. also there was no actual Power saving as hdd needs full 1 amp to spin up. but running takes much less.

same could be the story of these engines. so unless the break is 5 minutes or more, shutting down does not make much sense.

No what i meant is the logic you use to shut off the engine manually using the key, the same control you could do using the start stop - there is a button to disable it as well, its merely a convenience feature, instead of 2 steps of starting the engine and shifting gears - here just pressing the clutch starts the engine, else as Kinshuk says if he doesnt want the engine to die - he will keep the clutch depressed. Its also a habit thing that you pick up and eventually with time you will find it useful. Its not a must have but a nice to have feature - i wouldnt break my head too much on it.

5 mins or more break is just way too much - most studies indicate this within 10-30 sec time or so time, I usually switch off if the waiting time is over 40-45 seconds and it varies with my mood and sometimes as you rightly said, we have passengers who are used to have AC cool their precious - body parts all the time. AC reasons apart switching off the engine at long stops is environmentally a great habit, in cities especially the idling contributes a huge percentage to the smog.

I do agree with the battery drain part and the simple starter motor theory draining the battery, but if you are a regular user and dont misuse the start stop function, nothing practically happens to your ignition components. Turbo idling stuff also can be managed with healthy habits.

I would urge you to kill the engine and save the environment than idle for 5 mins - offcourse AC reasons apart/weather and passenger permitting.

I am not a regular user of Start-Stop system, due to the traffic conditions I drive, but I do believe it is sensible system to use. It is a mild-hybrid car (Google for more info) which eventually helps save fuel.

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

hello Friends,
I had a visit to Gujrat with thunderbolt. The Trip was 500 Km total, ODO stands near 23k KMS now.

Problems-
Speakers stop working with a loud POP. Actually, Not even the GPS voices, Voice commands, music, radio, CD is working. The AMP connected to head unit is not working as well. This shows that the Main Output of HU is not working at all.

Intrestingly, A full restart fixes the problem but only for 5 Mins! And again, Speakers go POP!.

Observations-
1) GC is much less than safari. The vehicle unfortunately scraped over few undulations. How to check for damage?

2)The Roads dhule to Surat TOTALLY dug up. No boards, no safety. a total BOO to indian goverment for such carelessness. Speed breaker signs have been removed and breakers appear suddenly. Road widening work in progress.

3)100 year old large trees cut down due to road widening. What a SHAME!!
Government is the major reason for de-forestation in india and not public.

4)XUV engine as always is a Gem. However it seems to hate speed breakers and engine shudders and thuds even in 2nd gear over them

5)Many idiot drivers are just overtaking in hurry only to fall back due to superb XUV performance (on open roads that is)

6) Government buses (Gujarat Buses) are the worst drivers and are totally rash. They're trying to overtake from wrong side as well!!!!!

Just a small update on Infotainment System issues.

I just had to pass by Nashik, and it popped into my mind to try Jitendra Motors, Nashik. I called them up, It was already 5pm.

The Service was very quick. even with late entry, they were not lethargic to test things up. They also had a trial run with me. Explaining that my HU was not working, They brought in a new Silver Box and Installed it promptly. Please be advised that i have already replaced SIverbox under warranty for similar issues.

We checked the HU neatly. All was well until it was halfway back on my drive (200KM) and it happened. POP!! There goes HU again. The screen went black. SYstem restarted , Mahindra Logo appeared and so on.

I'm out of my wits to what this problem is. Someone please provide inputs.

And for a tease, I installed DIY DRLs on my beast!

Hi,
Could you please help me in understanding the difference between "Smart LED Flat" and "Smart CREE LED" , I wanted to first fix it in my swift VXI as the stock HL are not so good and after which I wanted to have it fixed in my New XUV500.

cree is Reputed, high quality led manufacturer. however today's automotive leds don't come with low beams so make sure you use them on highway or high beam only.

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

yesterday early morning 5am when dad was leaving for a long trip the xuv suffered a bulb failure.

fortunately the problem was identified before departing and we were able to correct it. the navigator side low beam bulb had fused. there was a spare set in vehicle and I was able to replace the same in 15 minutes. I wonder how to replace high beam ones as there's hardly any space around headlights.

Alfie1.5 year is pretty poor life for a stock bulb, no?
