Re: Why Aria Failed to Take-off But XUV Did??

I read about Mahindra's M-hawk before Tata's VTT. But does it really matter who got the engine first? What matters is who is using quality components to make it last long.

Mhawk did sell far in better numbers than Tata's.
at the end sales figures does matters

Re: Why Aria Failed to Take-off But XUV Did??

Why mHawk sells more:-
Ah simple it is.."Because M&M has get the perfect gearbox for the cars".
This makes the engine show its real gusto and hence is felt more responsive. And the wide spread of torque further helps.
But the main reason is the gearbox.Else both 2.2 siblings are exactly equal when it comes to reliability.

In Suv Tata is second to Mahindra , It would be wise to choose better of two evils.

In small car segment Suzuki offers best drive ability cars ,and Tata stands third in sales after hyundai.

Why not choose the hardcore evil when both are evil?
There is a small proverb:-
KSHAMA SHOBHTI USS BHUJANG KO JISKE PASS GARAL HO(Means:Only that snake deserves to be left alive(or deserves a second chance) which has some poison. Why?Because the one without any poison can't do anything).
Dear, accept it or not but its true that except a better combination of good engine+gearbox and lighter body shells(which results in better FE too) M&M's SUVs don't have any other advantage. You can add maintenance here but I don't believe it.Maintenance depends 90% on driver.
In fact shame on M&M that being lighter than Tatas their SUVs still haven't got better handling than that of Tata SUVs.
Simple it is:-
As we say "Exclusivity brings fame"..M&M is exclusively known for producing tractors and SUVs and hence they are automatically considered better when it comes to making of rugged vehicles.
ELSE EVERYONE KNOWS THAT A SCORPIO 4X4 CAN NEVER BEAT A SAFARI 4X4 WHEN IT COMES TO TRUE SUV GROUND-'OFFROAD'.
Ah in fact praise the chinese system they have used in Scorpio 4X4 that many times its 4X4 system doesn't even engage despite of the person inside keep pressing the button to engage it.(Low quality shift to 4WD system!!!)

In small car segment Suzuki offers best drive ability cars ,and Tata stands third in sales after hyundai.
Are you sure?I think you made a typo.

Plus for tata is the space management and comfort they provide is in expectional way . The ride is plush I don't think Scorpio or xuv provide ride quality like the safari and xuv .

Sorry mods for the back to back post . Last line I meant was safari and aria.

Bet, you wont find better made gears in small car segments.

Plus for tata is the space management and comfort they provide is in expectional way . The ride is plush I don't think Scorpio or xuv provide ride quality like the safari and xuv .
fine but it doesn't make sense undermining the real issues especially the cost of maintenance. AFAIK Tata ask for premium post guarantee period.and rest assured niggles should be expected if it is Tata.

Tata vehicles OTOH is worth buy if there is a good mechanic known to you(secret about Taxi owners) .if you rely on Authorized Tata service stations then get ready to burn your pockets.

E.g, one of my friends experience
To fix the rear window pane which got stuck eventually in Indica vista they demanded Rs.2500+500 labor charge +a week time for shipment of part .
the reason- whole set has to be replaced.

He went to local Garage, handed over the car and said will return tomorrow evening.
next day car was ready and Rs70 , just labour charge.
the mechanic opened the internal Assy and cleaned it put it back...perfect.

This is indeed amazing .tata must really work on their a.s.s or else in no time they can be out of the game .

Re: Why Aria Failed to Take-off But XUV Did??

Dear only the boot door of Safari squeaks, that also after the car becomes a lac kms old.Rest I think its better built than Scorpy.
Safaris rattle more than the Scorpio and panel gaps are more in the Safari.

You mean Tata just got the engine, fixed it in a Safari and sold it out. They also did a lot of checks on the car before selling it out.
Did I say that?

I said - M&M spent a longer time in testing, so the Safari was launched earlier.

Else both 2.2 siblings are exactly equal when it comes to reliability.
Dont really agree to that.

Read the ownership reports around. TATA sources components from Delphi whereas Mahindra sources components from Bosch.

TATA's VTT is prone to more issues than Mahindra's mHawk.

ELSE EVERYONE KNOWS THAT A SCORPIO 4X4 CAN NEVER BEAT A SAFARI 4X4 WHEN IT COMES TO TRUE SUV GROUND-'OFFROAD'.
Not really. Both are equally competent. Infact, Scorpio with it's shorter overhang, better low end response and lighter kerb weight can be better too.

But the Safari has LSD which the Scorpio does not. That is Safari's advantage.

Ah in fact praise the chinese system they have used in Scorpio 4X4 that many times its 4X4 system doesn't even engage despite of the person inside keep pressing the button to engage it.(Low quality shift to 4WD system!!!)
Aren't you over hyping things?

Scorpio does not use any "chinese" components in their 4x4 system. Their 4x4 axles are provided by 'Dana' who is the supplier for TATA Safari too.

What you are talking about is the electronic transfer case, which if used when the vehicle is submerged in water, does not work as it is not properly sealed.

Many Scorpio 4x4 owners who take their Scorpios off road either make sure that they engage 4x4 before entering deep water or they get the electronic module of the transfer case sealed.

Re: Why Aria Failed to Take-off But XUV Did??

Hi All,
Huuffff
A very long thread, quite informative, but as usual deviates time to time from the main topic i.e. why Aria failed to take off?
As, i believe almost all the points are covered in the previous posts by various members, But none by an Aria Owner, so here goes my few points which pulled me to buy Aria over XUV or any other vehicle including yet to be launched STORME.

First things First, why Aria Didnt take off well?
1.) Its a product of TATA (Badge problem and Average(then) Good (now) ASS)
2.) A costly vehicle by say 2.5L
3.) Looks more like MUV than SUV

Now, why XUV take off well
1.) Good looking design (subjective)
2.) M&M Badge and Good ASS
3.) Right price band (as per me a bit costly by 60-70K)
4.) M&M provides more features in their base model

Now, why i have gone for Aria rather than XUV (although i can afford both)

1.) Its a TATA product (my experience with TATA so far is very good and also people around me owns TATA products from Nano to Safari and they are quite happy with the products and their ASS)
2.) It has more practicality than XUV in terms of Space, NVH, Design, Interior quality, fit and finish, etc)
3.) Aria has a practical boot space, XUV just doesnt have a boot space
4.) Aria gear box is better than XUV and same goes for 2.2 VTT which is not loud and pulls from 1400 rpm ( has a bit of lag say for a second or so). Whereas XUV pulls cleanly from 1300-1400 rpm and has a lag for half a second or so.
One has to keep Aria in right gear at low speeds to keep things under control but for XUV even a higher gear works.
XUV engine becomes a bit audible and coarse after 60kmph, whereas in Aria the engine run smooth from its idle rpm to 150 kmph.
Aria has the best mid range.
On Highway its the 2.2vtt of Aria which delivers better fuel economy than XUV. inspite of much higher (around 400kgs) of kerb weight.
Aria has superb plush ride quality, xuv has a bit of hard ride (only a bit)
Aria provides better warranty of 100000 kms and three years. whereas xuv has only 50000kms and 2 years.
5.) Aria has 15k service intervals whereas XUV has 10k service intervals
6.) Most Imp. thing i.e. vitamin M. TML has offered a great discount of Rs. 3.35L on 4x4 pleasure variant which makes it to 12.4L OTR Delhi and XUV was 13.1L OTR Delhi but in 4x2 mode where as in 70K less i got a 4x4.

Now:
Niggles: Both vehicle has their own sets of niggles. If one search on net they will find more niggles on XUV (as it has sold in more numbers) but Aria also has niggles which are already mentioned in my ownership review and also on other forums.

XUV suffers from more and constant niggles from passenger side front door not closing from the day vehicle was launched to brake disc replacements. Aria has different issues in different lots. Regular updates and upgrades are done by both companies to make the product a niggle free product.

Tata after updating all the so far reported niggles launched Aria in Italy whereas in XUV M&M is still in the process of updating the softwares of Infotainment system, brakes, gear and door locking issue (same is with Scorpio where rear door refuses to lock if all the doors and windows are lock).

Both vehicle has so much to offer that other companies like Honda and Toyata failed to offer at that price point.
Which ever you'll buy you wont regret later.
Will try to post more comments later.

Even i checked this info on net before posting but havent got the correct kms and years for standard warranty. Iam not talking about the extended warranty. Only standard, which in aria case it is 3 years and 1L kms.

Looks like M&M is making a little extra money to offer a similar warranty.

Besides, warranty doesn't translate into long life. They are going to blame most of the claims on you, anyways. Long-term reliability is something that is built over many years, not something that would change with an year old product.

Re: Why Aria Failed to Take-off But XUV Did??

Hi All,

I was going thru a thread (on another forum) dedicated to Niggles so far found in XUV500 and the list seems to be ENDLESS. It is like Issue after Issue, Niggle after Niggle. Iam not talking in terms of standalone case but it is there in almost all the vehicles available on that Forum.

Issues which i can recollect are:
Brake pad and disc related
Front suspension (either right or left)
Clutch Replacement (new module)
Gear not engaging properly
Camber alignment
Rear suspension and tyre grinding against the suspension
Wheels alignments
Tyres giving away with cuts and bubbles
Stearing grinding issue
Stearing fluid hose problem
One Issue of Engine Failure
Auto Wipers failure
Auto AC Failure due to sensors
Cruise COntrol Problems
Water pump problem
Headlight issues
DRLED Failure Issue
The Famous Door not closing issue
Sensors going kaput or activated unnecceasrily
ABS Errors
Infotainment failure and problems
Low milage problem (9 in city and 11 on highway)
AC not effective or inconsistent
Foul smell entering in car even recirculation mode is active
Another Famous front right wheel comes out of the vehicle (scary)
+many more which i failed to recollect now

But still its a good car. I guess people are Guiena Pig of M&M on which they are doing their final R&D.

I have read almost all the reviews of Tata Aria and collectively the issues faced by all the owners so far (here on this forum and also on other forums)

Engine failure one case
car stalling (2 cases) not due to engine failure
Front Shock Absorbers Update (it was update and no problem was reported by owners, this belongs to first batch vehicles)
Change of Peak Torque Limiter Bolt (update in first batch)
Driver seat squeak (my car)
Clutch has some problems (in 2 cases)
EGR Valve/pipe became Loose (my Car) although not a niggle but still to be mentioned
Parking sensors faulty (from the time of purchased, changed under warranty - My Car)
Note: Iam not writing/mentioning issues as a niggle/problem like (interiors were soiled, boot space was filled with oil as oil can was not properly sealed, etc)

Other issues which i misses in this post are welcome especially on Aria, as i guess we have many in XUV.

Thanks for reading this long post
