The only reason why it failed was TATA & the only reason why XUV did well was that in the last 5-7 years, M&M has done everything right

TATA basically has handed over the UV segment to M&M on a sliver platter

M&M Launches: (in last 4-5 yrs)

Xylo
Genio
XUV
Quanto
Rexton by Sssanyong
Refrehed Verito
Refreshed Scorpio (in 2013 maybe)
Bolero - anyway doingt 5k+ numbers month on month

So basically M&M has good UVs to cater to every segment and it is going strength to strength

TATA Launches

Nano - big media hype - No sales numbers
ARIA
Sumo Gold (Bits and pieces here & there, same OLD sumo)
Umpteen variants of Indica, Vista, Manza, CS, etc (All oldf vehicles with bits and pieces here n there) [frustration]
Safari Storme - Too less too late - Nothing that will set the sales charts on Fire (Maybe 800/1000 per month maximum)

Come on TML no one is interested in these useless "" Bits n Pieces"" Refresh Launches

That's because of great saying "First Impression is Last Impression". [glasses]. So lotz depend on your launch. And that's where XUV (MnM) played very smartly with introductory prices and when XUV was/is hit, they slowly managed to increase the prices and still there are many takers/lovers (One of the biggest one being my wifey [evil]).

+100,

XUV was hit because, Indian buyers never expected such a different SUV from M&M and bowled out with its looks and quickly M&M followed good strategy of lottery system which further increased the pulse of masses and every body was so wild to get a XUV and it went on till the Duster launch and things started changing then after Storm was launched, but already there are 1000s of XUVs were on the roads and normally this is one unique buying criteria for any one as whichever is seen more on the road just follow that like a sheep[lol] so it is continuing just like Swift sales. It takes time to buy other vehicles like Storm as already TATA has some tough bad image with those earlier bread indica, sumo.

Aria failed for two reason mainly one is its exorbitant price, which no body was willing to buy since it was form bad imaged TATA and initial niggles further killed the product, so now even TATA go down and say Aria for 7Lakhs no body will come forward[lol]

Even after the lottery system and the initial hype has died down, not much has changed for the XUV's sales.

Even after the launch of the Duster and Storme, the sales remains unaffected, selling at 3800-4300 units per month.

Yes true, XUV sales have never been affected by Duster and Storme. Storme have it's own set fan. While duster is just wanna be vehicle. XUV is just dashing car, with features list that can make people drool. [drive]
