Which New Tyres For Tata Manza ?

got it..he said it Michelin energy xm 200 185/65R/15. i guess it has to be xm2. Tyre is nearly 6000 kilometers old.the punctures happened mainly on pot holed roads. he said that Michelin dealer from where he bought said that tires are made of very soft rubber and the dealer nor the company can't any responsibility for too much punctures. he said it's not good as his previous mrf

If Its indeed XM2 then he got a oversize tyre for manza 185/65R/15 which has higher sidewall (for this reason I am getting 195/60R/15) & that higher sidewall can be the contributing factor in puncture & cuts. Michelin indeed has softer rubber which is why they are less noisy but that soft rubber has a stronger compound for XM2 as per Michelin.

No tyre in the world is immune from sidewall cuts, no manufacturer except the Falcon offer warranty on sidewall cut.

Upsizing further increases possibility of sidewall cut especially if gets scraped on potholes.

However, XM 2 are specifically designed to deal with potholes and Indian road conditions same is highlighted on the advertisements available on you tube. and it is recently launched in the 195/60 R 15 size.Also our wagon R is running on xm 2 (asymmetrical) on highway +bad roads(village roads, pot holes, farms) nicely since almost 2 years(only one puncture till date.) On the contrary previous MRF suffered innumerable punctures on same roads that I had to replace the sparewheel also with xm 2.



Yes, the 65 sidewall is the culprit there for pravin 's manager.Really bad choice of size, it seems he just changed the tire size (neither upsize nor stock size)

Beauty of XM 2 is that the middle treads are soft hence better grip, the latteral treads are little tougher and the sidewall is very tough (read somewhere that it is 8 ply thick as opposed to 2 ply thick XM 1).

I am reading many horror stories for cuts & rubber coming out of XM2, cant believe it but seems wrong sidewall size maybe causing all of this. Surprisingly Michelin recommends to add 4psi to recommended tyre pressure if we are filling air after the car has been driven. That means most users who fill air from fuel station are under inflating their tyre & that might be causing cuts & puncture.

If you are too much worried about cuts, which ideally you should not be, because your 95 %running is on highway, you can go for Falcon or BS ER 60.

Tornado are you referring to Falken.I have not heard of the bran of tires by the name Falcon [confused]

Tornado,won't the GIII be better suited for highway driving than the ER60?It provides better grip.

I postponed the tyre change & went ahead to the mountain trip (Nanital>Almora>Binsar>Bageshwar>Chakori)
Before leaving for trip I went and inspected XM2 & ER60 & I must say just the touch on XM2 I could make out that rubber is soft & would cut on mountain roads (random landslides with sharp stones) I paid attention to my drive in Delhi & used a Vibrometer to check the thuds which the car experiences on a daily basis, surprisingly there were 28 major vibrations recorded on delhi roads & that made me sure that tyre sidewall could get a cut on most of them (many users have reported that Michelin reports user error & refuses to claims)

On the whole mountain drive of approx 350kms I carefully noticed such cut possibilities on which B250 has survived in last 2.5 yrs of ride without any cut. I had to drive 7 kms of broken road on plains & 4 kms of badly damaged steep road at Binsar & based on that ride experience I have dropped idea of buying Michelin. In fact I am glad that I didn't change tyre else new tyre would have got damaged in this trip itself on Binsar last approach road.

Now looking for either ER60 (tried n tested [:)])or POTENZA GIII as suggested recently or someone else suggested MRF ZV2K.

I still suspect that Michelin users with negative experience might be under inflating their tyre or wrong size upgrade leading to worst experiences but cant say for sure.

This video is still shot in the plains of uttrakhand but I had similar worse road on the way to Binsar that too with steep incline. Bridgestone B250 have survived well & I doubt if Michelin would survive such roads where sharp stones are hitting the tyre, Binsar road is for single car so no place to steer left or right.

No one except the god can save a tyre from side wall cut in case of sharp part of a stone rubs against it forcefully. My wagon R has faced similar roads with xm 2 without any problems. In fact xm 2 is meant for stone ridden roads.

Also ER 60 on my manza have survived similar roads this monsoon.

Choice is your. But without second thought ER 60 is better than B 250 on all fronts.

I cant find ER60 as its been discontinued Found only 2 in stock with 1 dealer, they all are giving me the following.
Touranza AR60 (newly launched) for 5250/-
Bridgestone Private Limited
Potenza RE88 for 5200/-
Bridgestone Private Limited

Potenza GIII I am told is older version if I want they may get that for me, asked 3 dealers they all prefer to sell RE88 for whatever reasons.

Yokohama A-drive for 4900-5000/- I am told these least noisy out of the 3 listed

Are you sure? Is it AR 10 or AR 20 or AR 60?
If you remember my buying experience, I chose ER 60, because AR 10 were not available in market.
AR 20 are generation next of AR 10.
AR 10 were brought toreplace ER 60 in the market.
According to Bridgestone blog, AR 20 would replace AR 10 and AR 10 would be discontinued.
So better to go for AR 20 as it is available in the size 195 /60 /R 15.*
AR 10, AR20 are definitely better than ER 60 especially noise and wet handling. Read the link provided above.
Potenza have softer sidewall than Turanza.

Yesterday, while i were there for wheel alignment for my car, i met a guy in tire shop who came on his 2008 corolla petrol for the alignment and balancing. that corolla had 65 K on odo and all 5 tires are Yokohama A drive(185/60-15). While technician checking the tires, told that both front tires shape changed due to belt broken. These had more than half tread was there on the tires. As per the owner, he use this car once in a month to visit his farm in a village, which has broken roads. he was looking for a used tavera/qualis for this purpose.
