Here.
Sorry for going Off topic:
Check with a new Splitter(which splits line to data/voice). Check for the line disturbance. It happens most of the time if you have a faulty splitter which is not doing its job !
The service guy has actually told that line is not proper and should be splited, but he never does. Once, I just wanted internet fixed and he didn't have enough time to do anything else so left it. Once when we both had time but he immediately got a phone call that he cut the wrong line(he was supposed to cut 75's line and disconnected 76's)! This made him leave that job again. Few more similar stories, the line never changed. As I told earlier, their service is pathetic so didn't dare to call them again, and let it be as it is.
Here's one incidence with someone who picked up my phone when I wanted to complain about net not working:
Me: Net's not working.
He: Have you made any changes in modem?
Me: Nope. Nothing.
He: In windows then?
Me: Nope. It doesn't even work in Linux.
He: That's the reason sir! Linux is a virus! Format your windows! Net won't work with it. [frustration]
I still want to meet this genius and salute him.

Wow this is good. While seeing this comparison for sure the new plan is good for me.

Current Plan - 10 GB / 2 MBPs / Rs.1000 to Rs.1200 PM
Sgustd Plan - 40 GB / 4 MBPs / Rs.1292 PM with 1000 mints free call.
Well Sir the plan rates for Chennai are different & seem very expensive, you can check it out on the Airtel broadband website, there is a 4mbps for 15gb & 1000 min free calls for around 1200 or so i read.
Broadband Plans- Broadband Tariffs- Internet Connection Provider in India: airtel
Airtel 2Mbps up to 40GB and 512 afterwards . 1294.14 (as prads)
Was that a typo & did you mean 4 mbps or you have not changed your plan in last one year.

A tip - If your an Airtel broadband customer keep checking the new plans on there website cos they do not change their plans unless you ask them to,so you could be paying the same amount for a slower speed when there would be faster better plans available for same rates[frustration]

Re: Which is your internet provider and plan?

Just got a new connection : ACT Broadband.
Plan : 999.00 + tax
Speed : 15 MBPS UL & DL
Type: Unlimited
FUP : 40 GB
Actual speed : 20+ MBPS both UL & DL.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/2403393864.png

This is freaking fast, better than anything I have used till now.
Awsome eh!![:D]
Sudeep - Howz ACT's customer service and response level? I am currently using their Digital Cable TV, all is good except for the Customer Service. If that's at par, then I can go for the BB with them as well. When I compare the plans, their ones are found to be the best and VFM.

Mine is Tikona wireless 512k plan (unlimited) at Rs. 650/-. Download speed varies from 40kbps to 120kbps.
Shailinder - Being wireless with speed of 40 to 120 kbps, is that at par with other BB services? And how that works? Do they provide you with WiFi Router something? If possible, please share the installation details including overall costs and also customer service and response level experiences.

Luckily Never had to call them till now.
No Disconnections in past three months.

Constant speed of around 20 Mbps, both upload and download, even though I am subscribed to 15Mbps plan.

I totally agree with you for the VFM part, no ISP gives these speeds at this price.

Don't panic buddy, what ever it is but Gov. companies are way too much better than private ones, as you have the liberty to meet higher officials for what ever problem you have. And you also get cheep plans as well. I am also using MTNL's 3G data card for the net, its somewhat fine to me. If network is fine 100 to 500 kbps is just fine. That is most of the times.

@prads,
It was a typo. it is 4mbps. As you said, they do not change the plan by themselves. Even i was on 2mbps 10GB for 1100+ Taxes.

Later they increased 300 rs or so for the same plan. Then i checked the plan and found these new plans.

So as prads suggested, if you have not checked the new plans and still using old plans, then you will be in for a surprise. Please check the latest plan !

Recently I got a call from Airtel about introducing a new plan.

Current plan is unlimited plan with 10gb @ 2mbps and after that 254kbps. No free calls. I will pay Rs.1150 including taxes.

New plan is unlimited plan with 15gb @ 4mbps speed and after that 254 kbps. 1000 minutes free calls. If I use the entire 15gb, then next month I will be given 3 gb extra download. so by default it makes 18gb free download. [Really did not understand this point]

I opted for the new plan and to find the actual speed I checked it today and the following are the figures.

Hi there experience.

I am with this plan since a year, it was 1350/- for 30 GB.

Now the price is 1425 for 30 GB. As a old customer they hiked the price but no change in plan.
Are you sure its 30 gb now? Cause last time I checked it was 30 gb for selected states only and my state isn't covered in it.

Airtel increased 75RS -> Input cost increased it seems [anger]
1150 + Tax ->1225 + Taxes

Changed the plan to 1125 + Tax (Previously 1050+ Taxes) ->2Mbps /30GB/1000 Minutes.

I am not even using 10GB these days. I wanted a plan above 1000Rs for getting my Centrex (4 Digit) free.
