Your concern is right, but most people don't even pay attention to engines if its 3 cylinder or 4 or how much BHP it has. Most of the people still consider CC displacement as power.

For instance its been enough time since new K12 engine debuted in the Swift, but did that impact resale value of old petrol Swift? No.

Accent had 3 cylinder engines but it is still selling in the used market.

There are many examples so don't worry about resale value.

@VipinLJ - VW diesel engines are know as TDI (all caps), not TDi (i in small letters). TDi is used by Tata.
Sorry amippjpr. My bad. It is indeed TDI and not TDi like I keep typing.
And btw, the petrol swifts don't have that great of a resale value. It's the diesel ones that have amazing resale value.
And the accent with the 3-cyl engine is a pathetic excuse of a car. And they go for dirt cheap here in Kerala.

Price will go into the territory of sedans. Would you still?
Yes. I would because we hardly ever use the boot (only for the occasional airport trips and for that too, the boots of the Polo and Getz are more than enough). If the OTR comes to around Rs. 10 lakhs for the HL model, I would get one because performance will be marginally better than the Vento due to the Polo being slightly lighter due to the lack of a boot.

Guys just enjoy your car without thinking about resale value. We have bought Polo for driving pleasure and not for resale.
We were just contemplating :D We have to be practical right? But that being said, the driving pleasure of the Polo is really good. Love how stable the car is.

BTW, anybody know how good Racechip will be in the Polo TDI? I searched for reviews but not many people have used one on the Polo/Fabia. The thought of 90bhp/225NM for around Rs. 17k is seducing me. If only I could find some reviews.

Heya. I know about a couple of different chips being available for the VW TDI engine. But I'm searching for reviews from first hand users. I remember reading a review on another car forum where someone had used a chip in a Fabia (1.2 TDI I think) but his experience wasn't an enjoyable one with some problems (forgot what the problem was. Read it a long time back)

AFAIK One is being tested by Pete's, though it is already available for Fabia. Inquire them.
Pete's has one? I asked them two weeks back when I went to Pete's in Cochin and the lady there said they don't have one for the 1.2 TDI.
Vivek from Tune-O-Tronics had called me in mid-december and he did say that they were working on a box/remap for the VW 1.2 TDI and that it should be out sometime in Jan or Feb. Will call him up sometime this coming week and update accordingly.

Hello people

Was out of touch for some time now due to the lack of a proper internet connection and college. I though it was time for an update on Princess.

Princess is now 5 months/9500kms old. I am pretty happy with the car. Almost all the points in The Good, The Bad and The Inbetween that I mentioned in the ownership post still holds good. The only change is that the gear shifts now feel much much better compared to how they were in the beginning. Performance is also pretty decent and it can very easily keep up with, and overtake, the new Swift, Linea and Punto on the highway.

The car is still stock because I still haven't found alloys that I think suit the car and regarding the blackened roof and smoked tail lamps, the insane prices quoted by various shops here are putting me off.

I am yet to call Vivek (Tune-O-Tronics) to check the status on the remap for the Polo but final year in med school is keeping me on my toes.

I wanted to give the car for a check-up at 7500 kms but couldn't, again due to lack of time. I plan on giving her for a check-up at 10,000 kms. I do check the oil and coolant level every week and luckily for me, the oil level hasn't reduced much (I read in some threads that the TDI engines are oil drinkers).

I'm also looking forward to a TD of the new Polo GT TSi this Friday to see how good of a car it is. I've got high expectations and I hope the car can live up to it.

Wow 9500kms in 5 months is a lot of running. Great going mate! Do get your car's wheel alignment checked at 10k kilometers. Would help in preventing premature wear & tear of the tyres.

Seriously? I may agree on swift but I think punto/linea have higher top speeds than polo, or is the better high speed handling of polo that makes you say that?

Please take a thorough test drive and share your impressions, soon.

Yeah, on paper. But if you drive any of them and then drive a diesel Polo back to back, you will know that those cars don't like to be revved beyond 120km/hr. 80-100 is good range for their engine. Whereas Polo's 3 pot engine (so called noisy) changes it's character after 3500 RPM and feels eager to get pushed for more. It feels relaxed even at 140. But it's low RPM noisy behavior puts such impression on first time Polo drivers that they don't rev it beyond 3K-3.5K where its real beauty is.

Hey Music_Swift

How old is your Vento now? Must be loving it, I believe. I've driven the Vento TDI quite a bit and I must say it blows me away each time I get to drive it. Love the way it pushes you back into your seat and takes off like a jet.

Hey GM88

I do check your review now and then for updates (whenever time permits me). I did get the alignment done once at 5000kms. I'll be doing the next alignment this coming week. I'm a stickler for such details.

Hey Rightnow

Punto and Linea may have higher top speeds but the acceleration is pretty sluggish. The Polo can easily overtake them. In kerala, top speed is not important considering the pathetic condition of the highways here, especially down south. My girlfriend also has a Punto diesel (75hp) which she bought the day after she bought the Polo. I have driven that a fair bit too. The steering feel of the Punto is better but that's about it. Acceleration wise, the Polo is any day better. Even the gearshifts of the Punto feel vague compared to the crisp shifts of the Polo. Like I said, the only place where the Punto betters the Polo is in the handling and steering feel departments but then we don't come across many (if not any) twisties down her. Straight line acceleration is what matters and the Punto and Linea can simply not keep up.
But one car which surprises me now and then is the Figo. Even though it does seem underpowered on paper, I've sometimes had a hard time keeping up with and overtaking Figos on the highway. [embarass] I've never driven a Figo and I'm looking forward to driving one.

Regarding the Polo GT. Yes. I am so looking forward to it. I hate VW for postponing the launch date to the 29th. I was so looking forward to going to TD it tomorrow. I called up EVM Motors, Trivandrum. They have the car in their stockyard but said they can give TDs only after the launch. I read the reviews on Autocar India and Overdrive. I'm disappointed by the 0-100 timing mentioned by Autocar (11.34s). I was hoping it would be in the sub-10s region. EVM said the Kerala OTR price might be around Rs. 9.5l. I will update the thread after the TD.
One funny thing which the SE mentioned was the 0-100 timing of 5s. I was [lol] and [frustration] at the same time.

Yes amit. The Polo's engine is rev friendly and that's where it comes in useful, especially while overtaking. Also, the Polo weighs less than the Punto and I think the gearing also helps it to be quicker off the block.

Once I had a tough chase with Figo in my Vista on Three lane NH-4. We both started from the toll both at the same time. from 0-80KMPH we both traveled equally. from 80-120KMPH Figo acceleration was fantasic. He leaded me some 30Mts.

Qudrajet took some time to reach 120Kmph from 80Kmph. Then from 120-140KMPH Qurdrajet overtook Figo & leaded.

all these happened on the straight three lane NH. I was at the middle lane, Figo was at the Right lane.

I agree, the acceleration of Figo is better than Quadrajet from 80-120KMPH. after 120+, Qudrajet Rocks[;)]

I disagree bro.
I have nto driven Punto but I have heard praises abotu in gear acceleration and doing high speeds. Can't say further much about diesel polo coz I drive petrol.
I agree on polo's penitential of doing high speeds, I have done 140-150 effortlessly on expressways. To compare with punto, I may have to drive it myself.
Regarding swift, I am sure it can't do 140-150 as effortlessly as polo does.

Hey Music_Swift

As I said above I may have to drive one.
But regarding figo, the other day I got into short race and the guy gave good competition in straight lines but could not match the way I handled polo. He was in diesel by the way.
