Is the opel corsa a feasible option? A fully loaded sedan/hatch for just Rs 2 lakh!
We have an old saying in the motoring quarters of Kerala. Its this "If you wanna ruin a guy, gift him a Contessa or Standard 2000" Its cause the guy would be spoilt with the luxury and pride of a big car,but his pocket will be nuked for sure! Now the brands have changed and people say get him anything with an Opel tag. Stay well clear off from that thing. Better if you dont hitch a ride in one too, cause people are getting knock off parts to fix the car,I've seen cars with duct tape serving as brake light glass and anything can fall off or go kaput anytime.

This why told earlier:

Forget about the Corsa. You will find it difficult to maintain. We can not trust on GM to supply its spare parts. Also you will burn your fingers in resale.
Stay away from it.

Arkin, Its not a bad idea for going a Opal corsa. But only thing is you should search for the cars later then 2004 or the latest 2005 models. They atleast serve the basic requirment of a car.

The build quality is much better then the marutis & santros. But the FE will not be more then 9Kms for a 1.3 GL & 7-8Kms/L for 1.6GL. If you have a good mechanic in handy then go for a Corsa. It will not cost you more then 1.25 L to 1.5 L.

What about Rs 1.85 lakh? [:D] as well as a 10% discount on accessories from your shop?

So what happened now Arkin? Hunting for a good Baleno?

I feel an Accent CRDi is better than a Baleno. And your grandpa has said no Petrol right?

Baleno was just a joke. Accent CRDi, unless grampz changes his mind in favor of the Waggy. The decision if we will buy the car next week will be taken on Sat/Sun. If yes, then we will start searching immediately.

2 people have told me that some Accent CRDis will require an engine overhaul worth Rs 75000 after 75000km. What say?

No idea on this. But I strongly belive this is not true. No engine manufacturer will make engine in that way. They will always look for a long, durable engine. However, engine overhaul may be required due to several (unfortunate) factors. My 800 has clocked almost 1 Lakh KM. So far we have not touched its engine. Hyundai engines are famous for its reliabilty. So, I don't consider this news as a valid information.

It is indeed true that diesel vehicles need an engine overhaul at some stage in their life.
But there is no fixed KMs after which it is to be done.
If a car is well maintained, it can be after 100K kms also, and if it is not well maintained, it can be after 60K kms also.

The best is to take along a trusted mechanic when you go to buy a car.

And try to reduce the value of the overhall from the buyer.

We have started searching for a used CRDi. We called used car showrooms, including Mahindra 1st choice and Hyundai Pre-owned, but to no avail. We went to Forum Mall, Koramangala. While having sugarcane juice, I saw a used car dealership " Forum used card"
at a distance. We went there, and they offered us an Accent Viva 2005 Model 52000km done for quoted price Rs 3.75 lakh, nego.. Searching for more cars now.

About a 'trusted mechanic', our driver and some mech from our office can help us out. Thanks Shynish and AMG.

Friends, as we've heard a lot about used CRDis having problems and for want of a newer car, we might scrap the used Viva from the list, and instead go i for -
1. Brand new WagonR LXi/VXi, depending on what is in stock.
2. Used i10 2008/9 either eRLX or Kappa, for around the WagonR's price, say about Rs 4.2 lakh.
3. Used Swift LDi/VDi for around 4-4.5 lakh.
Grandpa is coming down to Bangalore tomorrow, and I believe he might have/be testing the WagonR Today.
Which is the most practical option?

swift = going to be discontinued, wait for a couple of months, resale prices will fall by 1 lakh or more.

WagonR LXi = why? when you have the K10

I don't have time to wait. Are you sure the prices will fall by that much? I don't think so. I'm talking about the WagonR LXi K series.

Yeah, I know you are talking about K series.

Will your grandpa ever sit in the back seat?

Will anyone sit in the backseat?

NO.

Then why go for Waggy R LXi.
Go for Alto K10 LXi or VXi.

Even consider the 800cc alto.
