I think the most practical buy will be new Wagon R LXi for the reasons we have already discussed at the beginning of this thread/ your new car thread. However, i10 is also an excellent buy. I would say it is a close call. I would prefer and advice to go for a new one if possible, as it gives you sort of assurance.

Then why go for Waggy R LXi.
Go for Alto K10 LXi or VXi.

For design reasons, I would opt Wagon R instead of ALTO. Wagon R is more roomy than ALTO. In case Arkin / his grandpa is planning to take the car on highway (read between KA - AP), I think Wagon R is the better choice any day.

Grandpas hardly care for design.
Comfort is all that matters.
And both cars have equally comfortable front seats.
And rear seats will never be used.

And are you suggesting that a tall-boy has better highway manners than a low-slung car?[frustration]

Look. My grandfather needs a car he can easily get in and get out of, provides him a comfy driving position, and has decent space & status. That is precisely why he did not accept our M800 from my dad. Besides, I might have to used the car for 7-8 months. People will laugh at me saying " why do you travel by an Alto when you have a Fiesta/Polo and an Indigo" Even my ego would be hurt. So would my Grandpa's. I've clearly mentioned that the car will go on a 400km highway trip a month. Sometimes, the car will have to carry 5 people during trips and such. I just want a decent last car for my Grandpa, that suits both me and him.

EDIT: But my grandpa cares about design

Thank you Shynish and AMG.

@ arkin

Sorry buddy to say this, but

You and your grandpa dont want a car, you want a moving status symbol.
Get a used 1980 Merc E class for 2.5 Lakhs and satisfy your ego.

I mean the K10 does everything the Waggy does.

And why would you take a waggy to 400 KM trip when you have the indigo?

Well, tall boy design is a very convenient one with out any doubt. I agree that it is not the best on the highway. But I guess Arkin and his grandpa are not looking for a best race machine on the highway. They priority, as far as I understood is a comfy car with decent reputation, decent FE, easy to maintain and handle. IMO, Wagon R matches all these criteria perfectly!

Please be polite and try to understand his requirements buddy.

Dont think any further. As i suggested in my first post itself, go for WagonR. Its tall boy design ensures comfortable ingress and egress. And needless to say, the blue eyed boy looks awesome.

I take this comment of your's, my dear friend, as derogatory, but do not wish to report abuse against you. My family can afford a brand new Merc if they want one.
Talking about ego, I've travelled in the worst of cars and buses in the Neanderthal days when my dad did not have a single car, as well as Rickshaws and our old Kinetic. Speaking about taking our Indigo on our highway, our car (Indigo) takes a lot of heavy use everyday, and as per protocol, we can't take it out of Bangalore, unless during an emergency.
My grandfather has been using his FIAT and letting his arthritic limbs hurt, and managing without a respectable car, thanks to sentiments. Now, we do not want him to undergo anymore inconvenience.

Thanks for your views AMG. And thanks Shynish & Akash. Let us see where the discussions with my grandfather points.

Another thing, AMG, if my grandfather and me wanted a moving status symbol, my grandpa would not have had a Premier Padmini for over 2 decades.

1. One get literally walk into wagon R. ie. - Perfect Ingress and Egress.
2. A perfect driving position for a person like my grandad & dad.
3. Presumably more safe,
4. Oodles of space and leg room.
5. Appeal.

Now please don't go on telling me about the Alto.

Coming Back to the topic (no hard feelings, AMG, forget it)
1. `Which one is a better highway car, the WagonR or i10 (to my knowledge, i10) for speeds not exceeding 80km per hour on everyday commute and 100-120 km/hr on the monthly trip?
2. Which one is a better car for bumpy roads?
3. Which one is easier to maneuver.
NOTE: I know the answers, but want to check if I'm right, so that I take a right decision.

Tell me the things that the waggy has and the K10 does not?
you mean Altok10, and WagonR. The factor which is a + point of wagonr is its tall boy design which leads to better head room and as i have already stated in my previous post, has better ingress and egress.

Exactly. However, let's bury the hatchet and get back to WagonR vs. i10 and the - points of a used Swift. DDIS

Here is the list of features / particlars and respective winners IMO:

Space: Wagon R
Ease of ingress and egress: Wagon R
Head and legroom: Wagon R
FE: Wagon R
Cost of buying: Wagon R (is cheaper by approx 50 K if compared spec to spec.)
Maintenance cost: Wagon R (will be easy to manage with slightly lower cost)

Interior Quality: i10
Shoulder room: i10
Engine Performance: i10 (because of higher torque)
Handling: i10
Ride & Comfort: i10
Boot space: i10

Over all, i10 will perform sightly better on highways!
