I've been telling him that for the past 3 years. "Tata, hold your head high and let your last car be something that really suits you. At least a DZire or a Fiesta" and stuff like that.[frustration]

The catch is, this is supposed to be a temporary car for me, but my grandfather seems interested in buying it.

Arkin, suggest your grandpa all the cars you have shortlisted and then let him decide his choice. In that way you can get a car which will please all.
And hey what do i see, you have a Fiesta on list! I think you can go for a used fiesta. I dont think your grandpa would ever want to part with it and needless to say it is a great car to own.

An important update: My grandfather will buy the car from us after we are done with it!
You mean he will buy that used car from you? Thats a bit confusing. Would you mind elaborating it if its not personal.

1. I've suggested the WagonR and Accent, we might have to stretch our budget for a Fiesta. If we can find a 2005 in good condition for aroun 4-4.25 lakh, we might, but again, 2.4 lakh->3.25lakh->4 lakh!
The car will probably be registered in my grandpa's name, at the time of purchase.
@Aksah: That means, end of the day he don't have to think about the depreciation on resale value [;)]
Not exactly. My grandpa keeps postponing his purchase, but now, he can't!

Hey 350Z C'mon , Maruti has better re-sale value than most other manufacturers. And also note that Maruti is more reliable too in the long run with cheaper maintenance and spares.
What I mean is, does that slight difference of better re-sale of Wagon-R among other hatches makes a solid reason for you to recommending it? Especially, when we are here comparing it with an Accent, It is very obvious that Accent CRDi is any day offering a better value for the requirements mentioned

The decision has been made. My grandfather has said NO to an petrol car, and likes the price, looks and practicality of the Accent CDRi. Now, the only thing is whether we will buy the car over next week or not. If we don't, we might go ahead with a premium hatch/Fiesta immediately, and the Accent will be purchased a bit later for my grandad. There is a 50% chance of us buying the Accent Next week.

Thanks a lot for the inputs, everyone!

If you are considering to get brand new Fiesta then try reaching a Ford dealer because as far as I know, Ford is currently offering some bonus on the occasion of 1,00,000 Fiesta roll out.

Hey i Arkin i saw an ad in paper saying Limited edition Ford Fiesta diesel for around 6.8Lakhs. Wanna give it a try?

As petrol is ruled out now the choice must be between Accent and Fiesta i believe.

If we purchase a brand new Fiesta, it will be our car (Dad's), in Bangalore, and not my grandparents' . Yes, 350Z & Cool Dhaya. I heard about these offers. I'm yet to find out if there are substantial offers on the 1.6S and 1.6SXi.

One doubt: The car will be bought in Bangalore and used in Andhra Pradesh. What are the precautions to be taken in such a case?

Oh! How long are you planing to use this in Andhra? As per Indian RTO rules:

  1. When you are using the car registered some where else in a different state (for more than 15 days I presume), you have to remit the tax for that state as well. You should have some artifact to prove your short stay in the new state. Note that short stay has some set limit.
  2. Bangalore Tax is the highest in the entire country. So if you are planning to use the car in Andhra, why don't you buy it there itself? Dispose it there itself when you are done?
  3. If you are buying the car in KA and using it in AP with out remitting AP tax, you should have a means to handle the police.
  4. If you want to remit the tax in AP you need the NOC from your local RTO in KA.
  5. Even if you are remitting the tax in AP, you can still keep the KA registration and don't need to change the registration unless you desire so.
  6. If you are changing the registration, you need to get the NOC from your KA RTO and submit it at AP RTO.
These are the points I could remember now!

1. Look, the car will be bought in my Grandad's name, and there is not a large probability of him selling it.
2. The place is Anantapur, a Dist. HQ town, 200km from Bangalore, in Rayalseem.
3. There are several KA and TN registered vehicles owned by the people of the town.
4. It is not possible to buy the car in AP because -
a. If we decide to buy the car next week itself, our situation will be such that, we will have just one week time to buy the car, of which 3( or 4) days will be working days, when we will not be able to personally inspect the cars. These days can be used for finding out which showrooms have Accent CRDi(s) [or WagonRs, in case GD changes his mind, I will come to that later] available, finding out mileage and such, and finally, zeroing on which cars to rigorously test. So, buying a car in AP is not an option.
5. I believe road tax can be paid yearly, on not CVs, so in case we need to pay TAx in AP, that won't be a problem,
6. Do RTOs run on Saturdays (This is on account of the less time we might have, in case we decide to buy the car) in order to get an NOC?
7. Talking about 'handling' the police, we are considerably influential.

Thanks a lot. Please advise me further. [:D]
